  1. The snow kept falling onto the ever growing mounds outside of the winter resort. I was there with my friend Travis and his yeti wife, Burtina. It was his birthday, and he wanted to go skiing with her and I. After quite a long day of skiing, tubing, and snowmobiling, we trudged our way back to the resort at around 5.
  2.
  3. The lobby was stylized to look like a remote log cabin, wooden walls and furniture sat in the middle of the lobby in front of a giant fireplace mounted with TVs and monitors displaying a slideshow about the resorts various activities. A walk-in restaurant sat in the back corner, while the bar and casino were on the opposite side of the room. It cost more than I’m willing to admit for everything.
  4.
  5. We then walked up to our room. In order to keep our costs down, we all split the room, the two partners taking the bed. I didn’t mind that, especially since Burtina was feeling... warmer than usual. We dropped of our winter clothes (in Burtina’s case, only a scarf) before we headed down to the restaurant.
  6.
  7. The place was fairly busy considering how many people we had seen earlier, but it was the only way to get food. A shoggoth waitress lead us to our table and took our orders. We didn’t take a lot, as there was a complimentary buffet with every order.
  8.
  9. “This trip has been great! And the chicken is to die for!” Travis said to his wife, who was nuzzling his shoulder.
  10.
  11. “Get a room, lovebirds. And c’mon man, the steak is obviously better.” Burtina shot me a nasty, but playful look. Good thing they understood sarcasm better than a few I’ve met. One of the TVs mounted on the wall was playing a random football game, until a news bulletin shot across the bottom of the screen, along with a automated message.
  12.
  13. “AN UNEXPECTED CATEGORY 4 BLIZZARD IS EXPECTED TO PASS THROUGH THE GRAND LOCK AREA WITHIN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES. EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY AND TAKE THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS.” Most of the patrons let out audible groans.
  14.
  15. “Hey.” Burtina said. “At least we might get a bit more time here!” That’s true, we’re supposed to leave tomorrow morning for our flight back home, but that might have to wait.
  16.
  17. “Oh god!” A shriek came from the kitchen. A red-tailed lamia slithered out from one of the metal doors. “Oh god oh god!” She shot past us straight out of the restaurant. Everyone had seen what had happened.
  18.
  19. “Pff, whiner.” An Oni shouted from the other side of the dining area. The amount of stares she got in retaliation seemed to stop her from continuing on. As we tried to get back to our meals, the lights flickered above us.
  20.
  21. Maybe this was more serious than we thought.
  22.
  23. “Hey Gus!” We heard the Anubis working the front counter shouting from the reception desk. “The snow is looking awfully high.” We averted our attention to a nearby glass window. The snow was definitely higher than before, I’d say at least 7 inches, and it was still falling heavily. The lights flickered again, longer this time. All of us were beginning to murmur to others, as everything shut off completely, only for a few seconds. When everything came back on, it was noticeably dimmer than it was before.
  24.
  25. We might be in trouble...
