12/31/18

The start of 2018 was kind of a shaky one. Once I was on summer break, I started running Kirby & the Amazing Mirror which had led me to joining the Kirby community and making a ton of new friends I thought I would never have made. After that, I was 100% hooked on speedrunning, I learned a total of 8 full game runs which I was not expecting at all.

My biggest accomplishment this year was Squeak Squad Any%. After doing a race with MK, I discovered that I really enjoyed this game and wanted to try and take it as far as I could. I finished with a 44:52 which surpassed all of my expectations within a month, becoming the number 1 North American Squeak any% runner. I ended up getting a ton of other people to run it too which felt super good. This was amazing but I know I can go much further. After Odyssey, I'm going to IL every stage until consistent and go for 3rd and maybe even 2nd.

KatAM bingos are FUN:
More people need to play these, TG has created a special rom that replaces the first blade knight with a wheelie removing the essentially the most annoying part of doing these. There is a lot of variety and it still hasn't gotten sour to me after playing and racing many many seeds.

KatAM meme categories are FUN:
All sprays is great. Going to run this category along with All Goal Games and All Switches. These runs have very little to no RNG making them almost entirely skill based. I also encourage more and more people to run these

Any% can suck my dick :p

Ultimate online surprised me:
I have heard lots of shaky things about the online but I have actually been enjoying it a lot. Maybe this is because I have a lan adapter and good internet but even when the game lags while fighting spamming krool players, it never really annoyed me and almost felt like a whole new challenge. I have gotten a couple matches with items but I have never gotten a single free for all with the exception of the one time I forgot to set preferred rules.

I FOUND THE KNIDL LEVEL EDITOR!!!!
It is in Chinese which makes it tough to use but it is surprisingly a super stable editor. Adding ~30 PhanPhan's to the first level created a softlock after the goal game but I guess that's kinda expected but I have had no other issues with this. I want to create some sort of demo hack that demonstrates the power of this editor but I worry it might become too time consuming and give up partway through. I could also run into an issue preventing me from continuing without any idea on how to fix it. We will see in the future I guess. If I do end up figuring out how to use it, I will make a tutorial so more people can understand it.
