Without taking his eyes off the beast he starts to move back toward the closest boulder, staying silent while he does so. The bear didn't look like he'd noticed them yet... ||

  35. [2017-10-01 14:30:16] <Claw|Bastien> He tries to whisper-shout at her, to bring her back to reality "Cecelia!" but that probably isn't going to cut it. The bear has noticed her now. There was no hope to fight off or outrun the predator... But maybe they could distract it? He look around frantically, searching for the pack with the food. Maybe it would go away if they gave it the dried meat... ||

  37. [2017-10-01 14:33:42] <Nick|GM> The bear seems to respond to the sound more than Cecelia does. It swings its massive head towards the rock where Bastien and Delia are hiding, sniffs a few times, then walks a few meters closer to Cecelia. For her part, Cecelia falls backwards onto the ground. Bastien can't see her face from where he is, but he can't imagine she's happy. ||

  39. [2017-10-01 14:36:27] <Nick|GM> The food bag isn't in his field of vision now. Maybe it's on the other side of the rock? He can't remember. ||
  40. [2017-10-01 14:39:26] <Claw|Bastien> Attracting the bear to himself defeated the point of hiding! And the bag was probably where they'd left it: out in the open. Bastien was starting to fear that the only way to save Cecelia would be to endanger themselves... And he wasn't some kind of hero in shining armor. The very idea of leaving his hiding spot was terrifying. But the longer he takes to steel his nerves the worse the situation may get. ||
  41. [2017-10-01 14:43:51] <Nick|GM> And worse it becomes. The bear is now only 3 meters from Cecelia. It positively dwarfs her. She probably weighs a sixth of its weight, and with her on the ground, the bear is more than twice her height.

  43. [2017-10-01 14:49:02] <Claw|Bastien> He almost shout, trying to whisper but lacking control over his voice. "It'll chase us! We can't outrun a bear!" Think, think, think... "Try to get its attention but don't run... I'll... I'll try to get the food to lure it away." ||
  44. [2017-10-01 14:56:53] <Nick|GM> Bastien's voice once again grabs the bear's attention. It stops and turns towards the rock, just in time to see Delia step out from behind it. She waves her arms and slowly backs away from the rock and the bear both. She has its attention, at least momentarily. ||
  45. [2017-10-01 14:59:59] <Claw|Bastien> Ignoring the knot in his guys Bastien step out of the other side, desperately looking for that bag. Who know how long the distraction would work? The bear may just go right back to Cecelia if he did not find Delia interesting enough. Or he may find her too interesting and decide to hunt her down. ||

  52. [2017-10-01 15:14:41] <Claw|Bastien> He gulps down and starts to walk toward the bag, praying that the bear doesn't notice him approaching. If only Cecelia had retreated like they had! They wouldn't be in this situation then! If he died it would be her fault... ||

Offer it to the bear? Throw it as far as possible and hope that the bear is more interested in looking for it to bother with them? Meat in hand he drops the bag and start to walk backward, extending a portion of the meat toward the bear. ||
  61. [2017-10-01 15:32:50] <Nick|GM> The bear moves purposefully towards Bastien, in contrast to it's earlier more wandering walk. It growls again, almost a roar. Delia screams. ||

  63. [2017-10-01 15:35:21] <Claw|Bastien> He drop the first portion of the meat, hoping the bear will stop to eat it and give him time to reach the edge of the clearing. ||
  64. [2017-10-01 15:47:43] <Nick|GM> The bear still seems primarily interested in him. It speeds up, even. Delia runs towards the bear, yelling. The bear almost immediately turns towards her and bats at her with its front paw. She's lifted half a meter into the air and thrown two meters to the side. She tries to get up and the bear goes as it to bite her. ||

  66. [2017-10-01 15:52:59] <Claw|Bastien> "NO!" He waves his arms around flailing toward the bear as he shout, hoping to get its attention again before it kills Delia. This is getting out of hand someone is going to die her. "HERE! MEAT! COME HERE!" Oh God. He's going to get himself killed. ||

Either way, the bear bites Delia, grabbing her by the side with its teeth and shaking her. It's painful to watch, and must be hell to experience. Bastien glimpses a splash of blood before Delia is thrown from the bear's mouth. As she hits the ground, there's a puff of dirt and dust, followed by an incredibly more impressive puff of golden

  73. [2017-10-01 16:03:39] <Nick|GM> The bear almost gallops to where Delia now lies on the ground, ready to take her in its mouth again, but is struck by a spike of golden crystal launched from the spark cloud. The crystal stabs the bear in the shoulder. It roars. ||

  75. [2017-10-01 16:08:31] <Claw|Bastien> Bastien doesn't have time to process what is happening, the bear is still here and still aggressive and this is all that matters. With no plan in mind Bastien does the only thing he can think of and throw the meat in his hands at the bear's face. Then he starts throwing any projectile he can reach, branches, stones, the doll, his sewing kit, anything to get the bear's attention away from Delia. ||
  76. [2017-10-01 16:15:33] <Nick|GM> As Bastien uselessly throws small pieces of rock and plant at the bear, Delia's newly-acquired magic proceeds to do real work. Another spike of crystal materializes, sinking at least 10 centimeters into the bear's throat. The bear starts backing up, and Delia sits up. She shoves an arm out in front of her, prompting a wave of gold energy to engulf the bear, who makes a whining growl. ||
  77. [2017-10-01 16:18:47] <Claw|Bastien> As Delia proceed to save herself Bastien calms down enough to realize what is happening... And that doesn't make him feel any better. They were really waiting for them to get into mortal danger in the hope that it would reveal their magic! This is insane! They could have died here! ||
  78. [2017-10-01 16:24:28] <Nick|GM> A rush of gold hits the bear, staggering it, before two more crystal spears pierce into the bear's neck. It falls, shattering the spears. As the crystal breaks, it turns back into the gold dust from which it was created. The bear's growls turn to gurgles, and it stops trying to retreat.
  79. [2017-10-01 16:27:21] <Nick|GM> Delia collapses back onto the ground, and the sparks of gold dissipate. Cecelia seems to come to her senses and runs over to Delia. She's very obviously crying.
  80. [2017-10-01 16:28:28] <Nick|GM> There's much less blood than Bastien feared, and it looks like Delia's in no immediate danger now that the bear is still, if not dead. ||
  81. [2017-10-01 16:36:51] <Claw|Bastien> He just stand there, aghast at his realisation but then he rushes over to Delia too. She looks alright but that doesn't mean she is. He bites his tongue to avoid snapping at Cecelia, even though he still thought that this was her fault. ||

  83. [2017-10-01 16:40:55] <Nick|GM> Delia is crying too, though not so much sobbing as Cecelia is. She partially lifts up her now ripped shirt to look at her side. There are very obvious teeth marks that have been torn open in her skin, but they aren't very deep, and aren't bleeding very much. Delia looks completely and utterly exhausted. She turns so that she's lying on her unhurt side without saying anything and closes her eyes.

  85. [2017-10-01 16:46:46] <Claw|Bastien> Not sure what to do Bastien goes to get the nearest blanket and put it on Delia. He's not sure how much that helps but it has to be better than nothing. Under his breath he mutters "This is insane...". ||
  86. [2017-10-01 16:47:47] <Nick|GM> Delia is breathing heavily, but her tears have slowed or stopped. She pulls the blanket around her. Cecelia is still in full-blast crying mode. ||
  87. [2017-10-01 16:51:10] <Claw|Bastien> He's getting increasingly frustrated with Cecelia at this point. He almost snaps at her "She needs to rest." He put his hand on her shoulder and tries to gently pull her away. ||
  88. [2017-10-01 16:53:18] <Nick|GM> Cecelia lets herself be pulled away. She seems to be in shock to an extent just shy of Delia's.

  90. [2017-10-01 16:57:20] <Claw|Bastien> "Why what? Why does she need rest? Because she's tired after having been attacked by a bear. Why was she attacked by a bear? Because you didn't hide and we had to rescue you. Why everything? Because that's the only way to unlock our magic apparently." ||
  91. [2017-10-01 17:00:21] <Nick|GM> "It-it's not my f-fault," she says, but it sounds like she's not convinced. "They got us attacked by a b-bear." ||
