- 1.Project Ethos
- Project Ethos is a collective founded in 2014 by Robert Davison. The group is most famous for outfitting the infrastructure and public spaces of the city of Verbos with NeuraLink technology; most aspects of daily life in Verbos involve some form of NeuraLink hardware to some degree.
- Robert Davison handles the public relations for the group as the self-proclaimed project lead, but is the only well-known member of Project Ethos. The other members of Project Ethos are shrouded in mystery, but it has been publicly speculated by local conspiracy theorists that academy headmaster Arthur Conley was previously a member of the group.
- Ethos Database
- The Ethos Database is a server network created by Project Ethos that handles all data transmissions between data storage hardware and all NeuraLink consoles. The Ethos Database also stores and maintains all data uploaded to its server including user data, registered E-Devices and all creation data uploaded by the user. Controversially, it has been found by data mining through the ScoutLink console’s code that E-Devices also send information about the console’s geolocation. In response, Project Ethos issued a public statement that the data is secured as well as all other personal user data and is only utilized in emergencies.
- E-Device
- An E-Device refers to any NeuraLink console capable of transmitting data to and from the Ethos Database; while regular computers, mobile devices and tablets can install applications to access more advanced features to be used with NeuraLink consoles, they are typically not referred to as E-Devices.
- Mod-Device
- A Mod-Device is any non-NeuraLink hardware that has been modified by a user to directly send and receive data transmissions from the Ethos Database. These modifications allow the device to run similarly to a regular NeuraLink console in terms of viewing the virtual environment and player creations, but career data miners have also found success in using Mod-Devices to attain more information about the Ethos Database, such as learning that E-Device geolocation is sent to the Ethos Database without the user’s knowledge or consent.
- Modding is illegal in Verbos. Those who are caught in possession of or using a modified device will have the device confiscated and their access to the virtual environment suspended for a period of time, depending on the severity of the user’s actions.
- ScoutLink
- Released in 2018, the ScoutLink is a first generation NeuraLink console. The ScoutLink is a white visor that covers the eyes and hooks over the ears. A blue lens allows the player to view virtual environments uploaded to the ScoutLink from the Ethos Database. The ScoutLink was later replaced with the faster, smaller ScoutLink II three years later after reported concerns with hardware malfunctioning.
- ScoutLink II
- Released in 2021, the ScoutLink II is a second generation NeuraLink console. The ScoutLink retains the white and blue color scheme of its predecessor, but does not cover the eyes like the previous model. The device features an adjustable band that wraps around the back of the head and two small projectors that rest on the player’s cheeks. Prior to use, the user calibrates the device to follow the user’s range of eye movements.
- AR-Players
- An AR-Player is an individual who has registered and activated an ED Card and regularly uses it for recreational purposes. In this regard, any ED Card holder who transmits creation or play data to the Ethos Database is considered to be an AR-Player.
- ED Card
- The Ethos Database Card, ED Card for short, is an identification card that allows an individual to use authorized NeuraLink technology. ED Cards provide a layer of security for AR-Players and others who use NeuraLink technology by limiting access to consoles to only those who are authorized to use them; without the appropriate ED Card in close proximity of the console (or inserted into the console in some cases) the device will either not function or default to the guest mode
