Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity against a threat even more savage than nature.
Groups of people - colonies - are forced underground due to another ice age. Colony 7 goes to check on Colony 5, which they lost contact with. When they get there they find that the colony has fallen and there is a whole new enemy that they have to face on their way back.
It&#39;s got &quot;The Look&quot; for sure if nothing else, but it does have a little something else, although not much. It is a believable setting with stereotypical &quot;Zombies&quot;, here read Feral type Cannibals that ate too much red meat and that has destroyed Their brains.<br/><br/>Brainy is Not the Word here, but it has a Striking Set Design to place the Weakly Written Plot Elements. The Film Starts Out with some Obvious Observations about Alpha Males and Survival, Seed Storage and Weather Modification. There is some Relevance to the Times We live in, like the Climate Change Template.<br/><br/>But in the End it is much to do about Not Much as Things Devolve into expected Gory goings on and some Plot Holes Big Enough to Fill the one in the Ozone. <br/><br/>But here it is, another Typical Dystonia World that is another Warning to Recycle and develop Alternative Energy, and to keep Your Damn Hands Off the Weather Modification Machines. Its Not Wise to Fool Mother Nature.<br/><br/>Overall it&#39;s Worth a Watch to Watch and be Warned about a place You wouldn&#39;t want to Visit let alone Live.
I saw &quot;The Colony&quot;, starring Laurence Fishburne-Man of Steel, Pee-Wee&#39;s Playhouse-t.v.; Bill Paxton-2 Guns, Titanic-1997; Kevin Zegers-Gossip Girl-t.v., Wrong Turn] and Charlotte Sullivan-Rookie Blue-t.v., Harriet the Spy.<br/><br/>This is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller that takes place in the not too distant future. After global warming, the Earth has frozen over, with little pockets of survivors living in underground bunkers. Laurence is the man in charge of one of these bunkers that receives a distress signal from a nearby bunker-it&#39;s within walking distance. Bill plays the second in command and Kevin is the third, with Charlotte doing double duty; she is a brainy scientist and she is also Kevin&#39;s girlfriend. Laurence takes Kevin on a rescue trip to the other station, not knowing what would be waiting for them there. It seems that the people at the other station had run out of food and decided to start munching on each other, becoming what is more commonly known as, cannibals. This is the first movie to be filmed at the decommissioned NORAD base in Ontario, Canada. The acting is descent and so is the action, but there is just not much originality going on here, what with all of the clichés being used. It&#39;s rated &quot;R&quot; for violence, language and some partial nudity-mostly of dead or dying bodies-and has a running time of 1 hour &amp; 35 minutes. It&#39;s not one that I would buy on DVD but if you like Zombie type movies, it would be a good rental.
With a frost-bitten script whose skeletal plot cuts and pastes bits from innumerable other survival yarns, the biggest surprise the film offers is that four people were required to write it.
