- Two weeks ago my wife gets a call saying it's about "the computer". She ignores and hangs up thinking it's a wrong number.
- Last night I get a call that goes like this. . .
- Super thick Indian accent lady calling me on an echoing skype line with horrible sound quality.
- Me just getting off the phone (45 minutes, 30 of them on hold) with Bell Canada who still owes me money.
- Hello I'd like to talk to you about your computer.
- What about my computer?
- It's telling us you're having a lot of problems.
- (I clue in right now it's a scam) What kind of problems?
- It's blue screening . . .
- Nope!
- It's crashing and freezing . . .
- Nope!
- Uhhhh, it's sending messages to our server saying it's having issues.
- What server is that? Who do you work for?
- I work for Windows.
- Windows?
- Yes, I work for windows and we are seeing a lot of errors.
- What version do I have? You must know that if you work for WINDOWS!
- Vista!
- Nope!
- Windows seven?
- Nope! I'm going to stop you there. You don't work for "Windows".
- Yes I do, I work for. . .
- Firstly, it's Microsoft, second my computer isn't telling you shit, third I'm sure Microsoft doesn't give a crap if my PC is crashing, not enough to call me, and if they called me they wouldn't be using some shitty skype like service that's echoing like mad.
- Sir I am from Microsoft and you're in big trouble, you have lots of viruses and we need to verify your personal information to fix them.
- Later.
- That was easily, easily! The worst attempt I've ever experienced of someone trying to get my personal information. It's like she thinks after I've already pointed out she's not only a scammer but a poor one that I'm somehow going to give her my credit card number to get rid of a virus.
