- I finally hit max level on every battle class last week in XIV. Feels really good. I love this game and getting to learn the basics of each class has only made me more interested in it. Real quick personal power ranking based on each class type:
- Tanks:
- Warrior - This class just FEELS good. Flows just as well as pally, plus gets a button that makes you feel like a god
- Paladin - Very fluid class with a lot of depth and utility
- Dark Knight - "DRK, We Tried" A story in 3 acts. Pressing the same button every 2 seconds isn't fun.
- Healers: To be fair I love all of them, and play whm more than sch
- Astrologian - Feels really high impact due to cards + knowledge of fights pays off due to the circle move
- Scholar - Pet management isn't really my thing, but its still cool. Aetherflow is a good mechanic.
- White Mage - It's a really good class, I promise, I just only really enjoy it in dungeons. Moves don't feel much fun to use, lilies are
- a phoned in mechanic that just frustrates me.
- Casters: Tbh I love all these too
- Summoner - Loads of buttons to press and going through dreadwyrm is just really fun to me
- Black Mage - Used to hate this class. Doesn't press a ton of buttons but requires intense knowledge of fights and the game to be really
- good (still playable otherwise, but long cast bars can lead to frustration if you don't know what to expect)
- Red Mage - Very basic class that feels good to play. As the RDM in my group puts it, "How good at Simon Says are you?"
- Melee:
- Dragoon - Jumps feel good and the new stuff they added in SB is pretty simple to pick up but hard to master in each fight.
- Ninja - Despite issues with the mudras, the class sticks with them as you level up rather than abandoning them like SAM does
- Monk - Fast attacking buff and DoT upkeep. Frustrating if you lose focus and drop GL
- Samurai - I hate this class. It's fun until 61 and then you press 1 button, sacrificing all previous mechanics of the class in order to
- press it. If you're playing casually, this class can still be fun if you remove that move from your bar, but not optimally.
- Ranged:
- Bard - DoT upkeep, song upkeep, reacting to what decides to proc. A very random but still enjoyable support class that lost a lot of
- it's support capabilities in Stormblood
- Machinist - You blow everything you have in a 10 second window once every minute and then get mad when the boss goes away during that
- time. Its a fun class but it doesn't feel like there's enough there. I still like it a lot though
