Time, really does fly. It had been nearly five years since the mana pulse had wreaked havoc on the lands. Many of the monsters had gotten by but many had gotten more easily sick do to the lack of mana around. Michael had been lucky not to get sick but he had found out that small does of liquid mana normally staved off the symptoms. He had made it an effort to hand them out to those in need.

His research had continued on clearing one's mind of all distractions, he'd come to be able to do so with out having to meditate, the first few times were straining as outside stimuli seemed to break up his concentration. But as the weeks went by he found he could hold the effects of this concentration for hours before he could just leave it on with ease.

From there he had resumed trying to utilize his spirit's energy to substitute the lack of mana he could gather naturally. With his now cleared mind and a new found inner peace he had the control needed to attempt to utilize this energy.

The first time he had tried he had blacked out as he had done so wrongly and nearly ripped his soul apart. Waking from that had been a nightmare as he had been out for two weeks. It was just one of the many dangers of trying to harness one's soul as a source of power. He didn't try again for nearly two months where he attempted to research farther into the matter. Even having to research some about how some humans had managed to wield it.

 This time when he tried he had felt something, something familiar yet so new and strange. A feeling of peace and warmth flooding over him as was drawing energy from deep inside of himself. He felt a unnerving level of calmness take him as his mind worked to tug this energy out from his depths.

 He had figured this was the energy of his soul, unlike the humans who used their souls to pull a trait out, he was just drawing power of the purest kind from his soul, and having it flow through him. When he had stopped the flow he felt it fade, and other emotions began flowing through him. He hadn't even noticed but the calmness had superseded every other emotion he had. Feeling joy and excitement felt almost strange to him for a moment before the feeling faded.

He had to work at this for some time but eventually he had even mastered this to a point where he could easily invoke this power with little effort. Though balancing his research, training and duties had been a strain on him. He had counted his blessing that the last five years had been relatively peaceful.
