  1. With 2021 coming to a close, it's time to look back on every PB I got this year and say a bit about them. Before that though, I genuinely think 2021 was indisputably the best year I have EVER had in terms of speedrunning, I achieved so many great times this year. With each PB I obtained, I will list what it was at the start of 2021, to show my improvement throughout the year. This is definitely going to be a longer pastebin than usual.
  2.
  3. All PBs are listed in chronological order (if I improved multiple times, it'll be placed in relation to the most recent PB).
  4.
  5. --Pokémon PBs--
  6.
  7. Pokémon Platinum
  8. Any% in 2:40:49 (from 2:43:30) | 25/04/2021
  9. - An overall exceptionally solid run. There's a couple really annoying mistakes I made in this run, but I'm really happy with this run for the Double Tenta route. I might return to this next year with a new route to get 2:39!
  10.
  11. Pokémon White 2
  12. Challenge Mode in 3:16:09 (First runs in 2021) | 26/05/2021
  13. - Very average run with a horrific start and an amazing endgame. I actually really like CM, although probably not as much as Any% (Which I know is strange), but you spend so much time just resetting to Elesa that it can become really unfun to play after a while. That being said, I'm excited to return to it and try to get a 3:13 next year.
  14.
  15. Pokémon SoulSilver
  16. Any% Glitchless in 3:39:30 (from 3:42:47) | 24/07/2021
  17. - This. Route. I actually love HGSS a lot more than I ever give it credit for, and it's probably surprising for some people to read given how little I ever play the game. This game is one that I really want to get good at, because all my PBs thus far have been far below the standard of my other runs. This PB is nothing special, hit an optional in Radio Tower, overall slow beginning and midgame, but most of that is because of inexperience!
  18.
  19. Pokémon Platinum
  20. Any% (JPN) in 2:34:51 (First runs in 2021) | 03/08/2021
  21. - I only really played this because I wanted to do more Plat Any% but didn't want to grind down my ENG time. I got this time with very little trouble and rather quickly, but it's also probably my worst PB this year. This run is exceptionally improvable, but I'll wait until I work on a new route before returning to this one!
  22.
  23. Pokémon Pearl
  24. Any% (JPN) in 57:35 (From 58:17) | 12/09/2021
  25. - I ended up returning to this category for a 57, first getting a 57:47, which was beaten by Decsy with a 57:46 (yes, beaten by 1 second!). I fired back with a 57:42. Although Decsy never PBd again, I believe he did try for a little, but I wasn't done. I went and made a JPN exclusive manip to Roark, skipping the Sandgem mart (similarly to the ENG manip) and meaning no waits on text boxes are battles. I only ended up getting a 57:35 with it, which is less than the route would save overall. This was a really nice part of the year, I really like rivalries like this where I go toe-to-toe with another runner and we're both doing runs at the same time!
  26. It's worth mentioning I got a 57:39 the next day before putting the category down.
  27.
  28. Pokémon White 2
  29. Any% in 3:10:24 (From 3:12:38) | 09/10/2021
  30. - I could honestly write for hours about this category, but I love this game to death. It's definitely one of my favourite runs to do despite how frustrating it can be, however the feeling of persevering with this one is unparalleled in my books. I started this year with a 3:12, and only a few days into January I landed a 3:11:55, which was the first ever 3:11! This run was exceptionally long overdue, I had been grinding on and off for a 3:11 for a really long time, and was so happy to finally land it and get the WR back. A while after, minnow got a 3:11:43, claiming record back off of me. However, in August I decided it was finally time to go for a 3:10, and thus ensued probably the hardest grind I'll ever do in PSR.
  31. I managed to get a 3:11:13 really quickly, which was my 2nd 3:11, and claimed WR back for the 2nd time that year. In September, minnow got 3:10:59, being the first ever 3:10, with a run that was realistic 3:09 pace until Marlon, and then 2 days later, crafted got 3:11:20 (only 7 seconds behind me!). This is probably one of my fondest memories of PSR, the 3 of us all grinding to get 3:10 and see who would get it first and who would end up with the best time. Minnow stopped doing runs shortly after his 3:10, and crafted stopped a week or so after his 3:11, and I was once again the only one grinding.
  32. In the time period from August-October, I landed myself 4 3:11's, so in order, here they are: 3:11:13 (PB), 3:11:40, 3:11:37, 3:11:17 and finally 3:11:23. 5 total 3:11's, before finally landing myself a 3:10. Unbelievably happy with getting a 3:10 that's on the LOW end as well, 3:10:24 is an incredible time and was worth every second of grinding (even the 10/12 Marlons I got being bad!)
  33.
  34. Pokémon Platinum
  35. Any% Glitchless in 3:37:38 (From 3:45:35) | 23/12/2021
  36. - Immediately after the BW2 grind, I decided to do another intense grind and get the Platinum Glitchless WR back with Piplup! After many, many runs dying before Maylene, I managed to get 3 past her! One died to Candice (20% Snow Cloak bullshit), the 2nd got a PB of 3:40:34, then 2 days later I grabbed the 3:37. I managed to improve so much in such a small timespan, and I'm exceptionally proud of myself for the improvement, especially given how previously inexperienced I had been with Platinum Glitchless. I could absolutely beat this if I wanted to, but I'm leaving the run until it's beaten. It represents a lot for me, given it was my first Gen 4 Glitchless WR. When I picked this up, werster had been grinding it already, sadly he stopped without getting a PB, but it was exciting to have the 2 New Route Piplup runners going at the same time. Probably the last time that will ever happen though! Order has been restored, it'll be interesting to see if Chimchar reclaims (and more importantly, if it can stay there :D).
  37.
  38. Pokémon Diamond
  39. Any% in 56:51 (From 57:57) | 30/12/2021
  40. - So, Diamond Any% is a category that I've ran every year since 2018, for a decent length of time every time I picked it up again. I got the 57:57 in 2018, throughout 2019 and 2020, despite returning multiple times, I never managed to get a single PB in the category, until 2021! During my hot streak at the start of the year, I managed to get 57:01 with the old route. I was happy to get the WR for the first time ever, however the prospect of 56 being so close, and I didn't even using the Mart Skip route! I returned at one point in the year and kept failing to keep manip through the fashion case. Despite when I looked at it on emulator the day after I got the Plat Glitchless WR, I couldn't replicate what I was doing wrong, and never got the outcome again?
  41. After 3 runs past Mars (one of which was a god run), the one yesterday got past the Pachi double (the other two did not) and I was able to clutch out the 56 despite getting the worst Gardenia split I've had in a long time. The new tweaking strats saved me a lot of time too that was really fun to get in a run for the first time. Overall I'm just really happy I was the one who managed to get the first 56!
  42.
  43. --SM64 PBs--
  44.
  45. 1 Star in 8:14 (First runs in 2021) | 26/09/2021
  46. - Fun category to play mindlessly, but there's just so many vastly more entertaining categories to play in this game. I'll get Sub 8 next year and probably never touch this again.
  47.
  48. 70 Star in 54:46 (From 1:04:55) | 05/11/2021
  49. - This is a massive 10 minute improvement. Literally 75% of the improvement here just comes from getting better at the game from playing 16 star. I have put so little effort into most of the 70 Star stuff, but I've been working on it recently and I think I can get a much better time next year.
  50.
  51. 16 Star in 16:35 (from 18:35) | 06/12/2021
  52. - Very proud of myself for the improvement I've had in this category. 16 Star is where I started in SM64 and this is absolutely my best PB in the game. My current PB is with No LBLJ weirdly, just like my 18:35, so it's literally 2 minutes of just better gameplay which is absolutely insane for me. I have been on pace for a 15 in the LBLJ route, but sadly lost the run in FS + BLJs. Big things to come from this next year!
  53.
  54. I'm only listing Pokemon and SM64 this year, because it's what I spent most of the time doing. I absolutely peaked this year, and was by far my best year since I started in 2017. Let's see if 2022 can be even better again!
