  1. 1.1 POS Errors Plan
  2. 1.1.1 Consequentialism
  3. Multiple perspectives can be taken within consequentialism, all applicable to the given examples. It can be justified that when dealing with money in a professional environment, personal privacy is waived for security. An assumption of intentional theft is difficult to justify within an Altruistic framework, as it presumes negative intent on behalf of the workforce. In terms of Utilitarianism, the gain of the business by improving sales accuracy gives gains to all employees through extra job security, and the removal of suspicion regarding their working practices. Egotistically, the installation of discreet cameras is justified by the solution of the error rate in transactions within the business, as Ms. Browning stands to directly gain from all outcomes.
  4. 1.1.2 Deontology
  5. Kant defines the moral worth of an action not by its outcomes, but by the intention behind the application of the action. In practice, this allows for flexibility within moral framing for actions, as the intention may be for betterment despite overall negative outcomes. Taking this into perspective, it can be said that the installation of extra security cameras is wholly dependent on Ms. Browning’s aims. If it is to ensure all staff members are given adequate training and that mistakes are caught, then the actions are being undertaken from a Utilitarian viewpoint, aiming for the betterment of all staff within the business. If the installation of cameras is simply to catch and punish thieves, and to improve the finances of the business, then the Egoistical applications begin to weigh negatively, as her actions would be only to better herself.

  7. 1.2 Marketing Plan
  8.
  9. 1.2.1 Consequentialism
  10. From an egoistic standing, the implementation of further marketing procedures will maximise the company’s happiness, as their perceived need to improve customer relationships will be being acted upon. Within the utilitarian perspective, the (hoped) increase in customer satisfaction will pair with the satisfaction of management goals to create a maximally beneficial situation. From an altruistic perspective, the improvement of customer relations at possible financial expense to the company is a perceivable “good”.
  11. 1.2.2 Deontology
  12. The intentions behind the marketing plan are clearer, and easier to analyse. Both Ms. Browning and Mr Hastings are convinced that the service provided to the customers can be improved through the use of behaviour tracking. This intent to improve customer experience shows that care and concern for their customers is a major priority within the business. Checking reaction to menu changes ensures that customer satisfaction remains high through changes to the business, as does the goal to ensure consistent and personalised service delivery.
