- Prep time: 10 minutes
- Cook time: 20 minutes
- Total time: 30 minutes
- Yield: Makes about 3 ½ cups
- Ingredients:
- · 2 cups ketchup
- · ½ cup water
- · 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- · 2 tbsp yellow mustard
- · 1/3 cup white sugar (or xylitol/erythritol to be diabetic friendly)
- · ½ tbsp vanilla extract
- · ½ tsp cinnamon
- · ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce (can omit to make gluten free, but I'm looking for alternatives)
- · 1 tbsp onion powder
- · 1 tbsp garlic powder (or 2 cloves fresh garlic – it’s better)
- · ½ tsp cayenne
- Preparation:
- Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat.
- Stirring occasionally, simmer for 20 minutes. Sauce should be thin, but not watery.
- Allow sauce to cool. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. Sauce is better if allowed to sit for a day.
