Background | Kim Minyeong was born on the early morning of June 21, 1996 in Seoul, South Korea. During her infant days, her mother had taken a vacation from her work as she watched over her daughter with her father going home earlier than she usually does and her brother keeping watching and learning on how he could take care of his younger sister. Her father – Jinyoung – is a producer and a movie director while her mother – Jiyeon – was an accountant and an accounting professor. It was a bit funny since her parents seemed to have a ‘role-reversal’ situation coming along. Jinyoung mostly stands as their mother while Jiyeon stands as their father.

At the age of 2, Minyeong was left at the care of her older brother – Hyunsung. By that time, her mother had gone back to work and her father was swamped with his own projects as well. Though, since Hyunsung had school during the day, Minyeong is left at the care of their neighbors – the Chois. After school, Hyunsung would pick his sister up and then go home for some sibling bonding. Hyunsung would teach Minyeong her ABC’s and the hangul alphabet but when he finished, he would bring Minyeong with him so that he can watch over him as he plays. There are times that Hyunsung would bring Minyeong with him as he meets his friends from school who had fondly called Minyeong, a little puppy as she always tailed after her older brother. It was not until Minyeong was 3 that her interest for videogaming had been piqued when her older brother had started playing Final Fantasy VII on his new Play Station. It did not take long until Hyunsung had given her the opportunity to try out playing Final Fantasy VII. And from there on, you could say the little Minyeong was hooked with the Final Fantasy series. And at the age of 4, Jinyoung had little Minyeng enrolled into figure skating classes.

At the age of 6, Minyeong had received her first gaming console, the Play Station 2 on her birthday. This had marked the day that Minyeong's hardcore gamer-self had awakened. Also, Minyeong had become an older sister as Seonggi was born on later that year. Since then, Minyeong had been watching and learning on how to be a good older sister to Seonggi and would often play around with him and talk to him even if he cannot talk back to him. Growing up together, Seonggi and Minyeong had become closer – as if they were twins. And of course, having two hardcore gamers as older siblings, it did not take long until Seonggi became a hardcore gamer as well. At the age of 11, Minyeong had been given the first God of War game even though it says that the game is for adults, Hyunsung went on and gave it to her anyways. And this had triggered Minyeong's love for gory and violent games.

Because of the times that she spent with the Chois, Minyeong had become best of friends with their son, Youngjae, who is only a few months younger than she is. When Minyeong is not playing videogames, she is hanging out with Youngjae– most probably teaching each other how to sing (Minyeong) and dance (Youngjae). They attended the same schools and is one of the few persons who knew Minyeong very well and knows of the real Minyeong beneath her masks. It was Minyeong who pestered Youngjae to try and audition for an entertainment company, it took a few months but he finally relented and look where he is now, a proud member of GOT7.Minyeong was there for Youngjae whenever she is feeling down.

Minyeong had auditioned for SM Entertainment thrice - the first two times she was rejected because she was too young and she needs to improve more, but on the third time, they finally accepted her to be their trainee in 2011.

Minyeong's school life was ordinary. She had friends and maintains good relations with most of her peers. She had a peaceful school life. No drama, no tension, nothing to worry about. Except the fact that Minyeong had almost failed all of her subjects (excluding PE and History) and had been banned to play any videogames until she raised her grades back up.

{*} Patient - She is the type of person who remains composed and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people and situations. She is the type of person who you can leave with dealing many childish people and will somehow be able to hold them together. Although very patient, not everyone has patience like hers so she tends to reprimand her members if they are being too much for others to handle. Despite being patient, there are boundaries that should never cross or else, her patience will be long gone. (i.e, treating her members disrespectfully by other [yes, even by their manangers, sunbaes, or even the higher persons in their company], not letting them have a say in  their  own schedule or something like that, basically, her patience disappears if things happen to her members, friends and family)

{*} Charismatic - There is something about her that pulls people towards her. She has her way with the crowd, to the extent that even when not doing anything, others seem to notice her. When she talks, she does not need to raise her voice for people always seem to be listening to her. That aside, she possess great communication skills. She knows how phrase words in a way that makes it easier for others to understand yet without offending them as well as phrasing them in a way that would make others agree to her.

{*} Reliable - She is a very trustworthy person and she'll do what she is asked of (of course, nothing illegal) and she always prepapres things that her members forgot, constantly reminding them of their schedules and keeping tabs on their activities. She can be your shoulder to cry on or to lean to, she will listen to all of your problems and will keep your secret safe and sound.

{*} Honest - She is brutally honest - to the extent that she does not  want to lie. However, she has a talent for wordplays. If she thinks that the entirety  of the truth is too hurtful, she would filter them but she will not leave the important things out.

{*} Affectionate - She is the type of person who is good at expressing herself (except for her troubles). She often greet people who she is close to with a hug and kiss. She makes it a habit to kiss her members either on the cheek or on their forehead or head and giving them a hug before sending them off to their own individual schedules with words of affection like 'Love you!' or something like that. She usually made tiny gestures - such as patting the cheeks or hands or head or shoulder of a person - and a few words of encouragement.

{*} Considerate - She is the type of person to keep in mind adn thinks of others' feelings before making a decision. Actually, she consults everyone first (individually and as group) about their thoughts on a certain issue or problem before making a decision. Also, when she goes out to buy something for herself, she ends up buying things for the entire group. She does not favor one over the other and in her mind, if one would get something, the rest should too.

{*} Ditzy  - She is quite forgetful to a fault and to the extent that many people can comment that she is quite idiotic or stupid. It does not matter though for she absolutely takes advantage of this situation. Also, she tends to be quite silly almost all the time.

{*} Jealousy - She gets jealous easily, very easily. Although it may seem like that she is not jealous, certain habits of hers surface whenever she is feeling jealous. And sometimes, it gets bad to the point that she has a 'jealousy rage', which is quite bad.

{*} Selfless - Being selfless is not a bad thing, especially when you put others before yourself. However, being too selfless is not a nice thing either and that is the case with her. She always  put others before her especially if they are her family, friends or is close to her, to the extent that she forgets about herself and of course, she has this tendency to be a martyr - sacrificing what is for her for others if it will make them happier even if it hurts her. She is so focused on the needs and wants of those people she cares for that sometimes, she does not know that she is unconciously hurting them by not caring for herself. To the extent that she is unknowingly being selfish.

{*} Sensitive - While it is a good thing that she is sensitive to others' feelings and wellbeing, however, the fact that she is being too  sensitive is a bad thing. If criticisms are worded hurtfully, she takes them a little too much to heart. Her sensitivity to others, she sometimes feels like others' problems (her groupmates, friends, family) are her own and will try to fix things that she cannot fix and would worry again and again if she is doing enough to help lightening/fixing the problems of others.

{*} Manipulative - It may not seem like it, be she is very manipulative, very, very manipulative. She likes to take advantage of situations especially with her being 'idiotic' and always plans ahead of others - like three to five steps ahead of them. She is very careful and detailed in weaving her plans into motions and it is almost impossible to say that she is being manipulative.

{*} Passionate - she is really passionate in doing the things she loves, to the point that she is very determined and she will do whatever it takes to accomplish a certain  goal (especially if it involves her likes). However, the downside is that, it takes a long time before you could make her see the logical side of things.

{*} Perfectionist - she likes to do things perfectly even in the simplest and silliest of things. In line with this, she has an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). When cleaning, if she spots even the slightest speck of dust, she would clean the entire area again just to make sure that the area would be spotless. During dance practice, she would start from top even if she made a simple wrong step in the end of the choreography. Also, the dance positions, she wants it perfect. She likes things to be organized and if she sees a thing out of place, she would immediately fix it. There are times that she would go out of her way to fix the collars or something of her members or others because her OCD tendencies.

{*} Observant - she is keen about her surroundings and the people around her - especially if they important to her. Though she would not say anything about it, she prefers to quietly observe them from the side (even if that sounds creepy and makes her a stalker; she is not one!). She most particularly take notes of their habits and the emotions of their eyes.

{*} Competitive - she is very, very competitive even in the simplest and silliest of things. An example is that if she sees her labelmates performing well, she wants to perform better than they are. However, when it comes to sports activities and things involving actual competitions, her competitive side truly comes out. She would do her best to win and would be bummed iut about losing for a while but will take a look at it as lesson.

{*} Loyal - she is quite loyal to a fault that it could be said that this is her fatal flaw. She is loyal to her group, her members, her friends and her family. Thus, she will do anything to support them and be there for them whether they like it or not. She will never give up on them nor will she exchange them for anything else. This also means that she is protective of them.

{*} Dramatic - she has a flair for dramatics, often times she can react exaggerately especially when it concerns her members and her friends. Although, sometimes she can be quite funny because seeing her over react makes her appear crazy.

{*} Masquerader - She knows how to masks her feelings and her thoughts. When people say that she is an open book because she is an idiot, what they see is the mask or a persona that she had created in order to protect her thoughts, her feelings and herself.
