- I can now explain to you the lore of Chrono Cross!
- But it is very long-winded.
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- go for it
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Everyone has played Chrono Trigger, yes?
- It is very important to play Chrono Trigger before reading these explanations!
- It will be very difficult to explain Chrono Cross without Chrono Trigger!
- Hm...
- Rather, I cannot explain Chrono Cross without an understanding of Chrono Trigger!
- Demmy Lovings - 11/16/2017
- There are many ways to enjoy Chrono Trigger!
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- For those who have played Chrono Trigger, then!
- The lore of Chrono Cross is that the development of humanity as a species was tainted by the arrival of Lavos to our planet!
- A little piece of its shell was broken off when it landed, and this became a very powerful artifact called the Frozen Flame.
- It is responsible for many things, but most importantly the evolution of humans!(edited)
- It is very important to realize this, because the story of Chrono Cross emphasizes that the planet does not consider human beings natural inhabitants of itself!
- In the very far future, after it has been saved by the work of the heroes of Chrono Trigger, a very smart scientist known as Belthasar uses it to build a city.
- The city is not built of the Frozen Flame, but powered by it!
- Demmy Lovings - 11/16/2017
- Belthasar!
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- In his efforts to save Schala from a terrible fate, Belthasar experiments with the Frozen Flame. But unfortunately this causes a little bit of silliness.
- The city of Chronopolis is sent far into the past!
- The planet is very upset that this has happened, and it calls upon an advanced city of dinosaurs from an alternative future to put a stop to Chronopolis and Belthasar!
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- starting to sound mildly complicated
- endril - 11/16/2017
- the planet itself has time travel capabilities?
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- But Chronopolis has jet planes, and other advanced technology, and wins the war against the dinosaurs, and their dragon god.
- The dragon god is split up into many different parts by the computer that controls Chronopolis, known as FATE.
- In order to avoid a very scary time paradox, FATE creates a tiny archipelago, and sends the scientists of Chronopolis to live upon it.
- It secretly encourages the people of this archipelago not to leave, or this could cause a paradox that prevents FATE from existing!
- All things move according to FATE’s plan, until one day a tiny child named Serge is attacked by a panther demon!
- Majorita - 11/16/2017
- this is just nonsense
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- I'm enjoying it
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- To save his tiny child, Serge’s father and a friend travel out to sea.
- MoronSonOfBoron - 11/16/2017
- This is literally 90s anime fanfiction
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Schala hears the tiny Serge’s cries, and sends an electromagnetic storm from across time to disrupt Chronopolis’s security.
- Serge is able to touch the Frozen Flame, and he is instantly healed by its power!
- endril - 11/16/2017
- if it were 90s anime fanfiction, it would have lots of crossovers, like ranma and tenchi would team up to fight the dragon god here.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Because of a tiny circuit that has been hidden inside of FATE, Serge is now considered the Arbiter of the Frozen Flame.
- And now, only he can access its power.
- This is very distressing to FATE, of course!
- It kidnaps Serge’s father, and brainwashes him.
- And transforms him into the image of a panther demon, because this would be very scary to Serge!
- Serge’s father, in a fit of madness, drowns Serge.
- Demmy Lovings - 11/16/2017
- :wewmy:
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- demmy wants to be drowned by a panther demon
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- But, in another timeline, a clone of Schala is sent into the past to rescue Serge!
- This creates two universes. One in which Serge is alive, and one in which Serge is dead.
- Demmy Lovings - 11/16/2017
- It sounds like something that would happen to Sita.
- endril - 11/16/2017
- there must have already been two timelines if schala only decided to help in one of them!
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Foiled in its attempt to kill Serge, FATE attempts an alternate plan!
- Using the power of the Dragon Tear, a relic of the defeated dinosaurs, FATE enacts a very complex plan for Serge to switch bodies with his brainwashed father.
- It succeeds in this plan!
- endril - 11/16/2017
- why is that the thing to do and not like, send something even scarier to kill serge
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Serge is trapped in his father-turned-panther’s body, and FATE once again has access to the Frozen Flame.
- But after a very long adventure, Serge creates the Chrono Cross from the shattered Dragon Tear, and is reborn in a new body!
- And with the blessing of the six dragons to help him, he fights and defeats FATE.
- Only, it is very unfortunate for everyone to realize that it was FATE’s power that kept the dragon god separated into smaller dragons.
- They reform themselves into the dragon god, and threaten to wipe out all of humanity!
- Serge defeats this dragon god, of course.

- Videogames taught me to never make deals with the shattered fragments of an evil god
- Mog - 11/16/2017
- The line between chrono trigger and chrono cross is so small.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- However, it is quickly revealed that Lavos has merged with Schala in another dimension, and this monster is known as the Time Devourer!
- Mog - 11/16/2017
- If you remember from CT, Magus sets out to save Schala.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Using the power of the Chrono Cross, Serge awakens Schala, and frees her from its influence.
- The universe is saved!
- Mog - 11/16/2017
- (to be fair, getting the pattern right for chrono cross during the last battle is quite difficult.)
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Serge awakens on a beach, and it seems just as though no part of his adventure has ever happened...
- This is the end of the story!
- endril - 11/16/2017
- unideal this story is great, but you didn't explain the most important thing.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Oh, yes! The circuit that prevented FATE from accessing the Frozen Flame after Serge had touched it was called the Prometheus Circuit.
- This was Robo!
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- so the Chrono Trigger cast are just like minor footnotes in this unrelated story
- Mog - 11/16/2017
- Prometheus of course, is robo's name.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- But Robo is killed very quickly once FATE has access to the Frozen Flame again...
- endril - 11/16/2017
- that is not what I had in mind for the most important thing.
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- I am not sure what is the most important thing, then!

- This was a man who loved mushrooms too much.
- Mog - 11/16/2017
- Well, in one of Magus's endings you get to see Schala turn into the time devourer in chrono trigger.
- endril - 11/16/2017
- okay, and my last question.
- ...Do you want a big egg?
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- Yes!
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
- is this speculation or does it actually happen in the game
- endril - 11/16/2017
- that all happens in the game, pretty much
- Unideal - 11/16/2017
- It is eventually revealed that all of these events were a very complex plan by Belthasar to save Schala from Lavos.
- Frocto - 11/16/2017
