- I really had to contemplate for a while if I wanted this to be No Hit or something else. They Hunger was fun and all to do No Hit on, but that took me a year to complete. Granted, I was super busy throughout that year, but still. I then thought, "I want to put MINERVA in the spotlight both it and her deserves, and I don't think doing corner exploits and quicksave hell is going to make it. So I decided to limit it to something I believe is reasonable. Rather than never getting hit, instead it's: if your suit dies, you die, and you only have one shot at this, otherwise you have to start over from the first level (yes, if "one segment" skipped your mind, this entire video is one take; no cuts, no suit death, or death obviously). Not only does the "one segment" part keep it a challenge by keeping me on my feet, this whole change makes the game look more realistic, which was my goal. I wanted to make it look like the player is very vulnerable, and one small mistake can mean terrible consequences (there are many times I failed because of simple, stupid mistakes). The protagonist must be skillful, strategic, and brutal in order to survive the onslaught of combine soldiers ready to remove him from existence without hestitation. Honestly concerning the suit, I feel like this is how it would work as well. The suit is practically bullet-proof armor as long as it's charged, but once that charge is gone/used, there's not much to stop projectiles from penetrating your suit.
- Important stuff I had to remember while playing
- - The combine are not a super big deal when they have SMG1s. They aren't all that accurate with them and they only pose an extremely lethal threat if they are right in front of you. If they have AR2s however, that's a whole different story. Suddenly, their aim becomes much better, and that combined with the fact the AR2 tears away armor so fast makes AR2 soldiers super lethal, especially elites since their aim is already greatly increased.
- - Headcrabs must not be underestimated. They have very low health, but for some reason, their attacks suck so much suit armor out of you that it's absolutely crazy.
- - Remember which weapons I currently have and where weapons are. There have been times I failed some attempts because I pulled a gun out of nowhere by accident (and used it, there are times in this video where the game auto-switches to a gun I don't technically have, but as long as I don't use it, I'm fine).
- Edits to enhance the video
- - I used the "impulse 200" command to holster my weapons whenever I wasn't in imminent threat. For unknown reasons, the game considers this command a cheat, thus I needed "sv_cheats" set to 1 in order to use it, but I assure you, no other cheats were used throughout the challenge. You can even tell I'm not using any other cheats cause how could I be? Commands like "god" and "buddha" don't change how your armor is affected, and if anything changed how much ammo or suit armor I had or damage given or damage received, you'd be able to tell.
- - I gave the SMG1 a holster animation since by default it didn't have one (it's just the deploy animation reversed).
- - I cut the load times in half with video editing.
- - I added a little visual to the top-right to show what weapon is being swapped out whenever I pick up a new weapon.
- - I extended the time the last message from MINERVA is shown (after the island explodes).
- - I sped up the original credits so that I could fit in my special thanks stuff.
- - I have "viewmodel_fov" set to 60.
- - The chapter title texts that come up at or near the beginning of each chapter is video-edited in. It doesn't actually appear in-game. I added them for nostalgic reasons.
- - I edited the HUD to not display HP and shift the suit armor indicator to where the HP indicator used to be.
- - I added extra random sounds when picking up ammo and new weapons.
- - I use a modified version of the pistol and 357 viewmodels. The pistol now visually has a bullet eject animation when firing and the 357's speedloader model is restored (so it doesn't look like you telekinetically put 6 new rounds into the 357 anymore).
- - When the gunship was exploding, I added the helicopter out-of-control rotor loop sound to it in video editing just because.
