- mrthedon: Many animals products do taste good to us, but how do you resolve the ethical issues, especially given you're a former vegan?

- I guess veganism is harder for me to maintain than vegetarianism; I can't imagine eating the parts of animals at this point after having done a moderately deep dive into the ethical issues.

- For example, they're acutely more barbaric than how we've been seeing police treat peaceful protestors these past days.
- EonEcho reflects on Grace the Cow being torn from her mother and her clan as she cried out, only to be entered into a lifetime of slavery followed by later murder
- EonEcho reflects on lobsters having their limbs ripped from their bodies as they writhe in exquisite suffering

- I wrote these following words the other day, mrthedon:
- EonEcho
- "They're not "wokies", they're vegans. Vegans recognize that as bad as some humans have been treated, it is generally considerably less bad than how many non-humans are treated by humans. For example, the Holocaust is about average for what many non-humans around humans experience...
- EonEcho
- ...Vegans are the abolitionists if we were living in 1770. They're *ahead* of where our culture is on average. For vegans, such as myself, we perceive non-humans lives, at least for many tetrapods, as having 'about the same' value as a human life. Martin Luther King Jr. noted
- EonEcho
- ...that "an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere". The same machinery -- both conceptual and material -- that we use to mistreat animals are used to mistreat our fellow humans. There's no surprise that when societies become brutish to some minority group they use the...
- EonEcho
- ...language of the carnist. In fact, comparing humans groups -- for carnists -- to non-humans is one of the great warning signs of impending genocidal activity. If we work to dissolve that machinery we wield against non-humans over the next decades and centuries, it will...
- EonEcho
- ...substantially reduce the mistreatment we apply to beings in the same species with different skin pigmentation levels.
- EonEcho
- Vegans are noble people who we have moral duties to support. Vegans are going to make all human society proud one day. Vegan thought is one of the great redeeming ideologies in our species' story.
- EonEcho
- End.

- "This is the only thing I've ever had any faith in." - Florence Welch
- EonEcho
- Our species desperately needs to be redeemed, mrthedon.

- mrthedon: I am reminded of the the trial that bookends Star Trek: The Next Generation. Q condemned our species as a dangerous, savage, child race. And he's right. Just look at us.
- EonEcho
- Take care of non-humans? We cannot even take care of ourselves. We cannot manage our selves. We cannot even love one another.
- EonEcho
- An alien race looking upon can find so much about us that is inadequate and inculpatory. But, just then, what's this? *turns through the muck for a possible bauble*
- EonEcho
- A subset of these self-destructive, warring apes recognizes the dignity and worth of not just themselves, but of all beings on this Earth. Surely that should provide any Inquisitor with some pause.

- EonEcho
- The presence of even a few of us proves the possibility of redemption. Maybe this species can transform itself into something resembling nobility. mrthedon, Brother Martin Luther King, Jr., after the American Negro had received State Terrorism, Act MCMLXIII, wrote for peace and non-violence in their response.
- EonEcho
- He noted that, surely, such a people would be justified in reacting in whatever means necessary to best secure their Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happyness. However, in the future, means years from now -- say on 2020 June 04 -- others would read about these American Negroes.
- EonEcho
- They would read of their inhuman treatment, of the deep sorrow ,and seething anger. But they would not read about their revenge. They would, instead, read as I did in my brief One and Only of their restraint and noble character. This would inspire future generations to keep bending towards the Kingdom.

- EonEcho
- To this day, and until my death or until my mind decays to such point that these memories flow into the stream of existence, I shall walk with Brother Martin, recalling the nobility of those American Negroes. Veganism is the ultimate fulfillment of Brother Martin's dream, mrthedon.

- EonEcho
- Veganism's sublime ethical qualities will be remembered -- should we manage to not snuff ourselves out -- for millennia, mrthedon. It will come to define the era in which we now exist. It represents a checkpoint in universal evolution, per acausal decision theory, as the point at which the universe became sufficiently self-aware that it could learn to treat itself with respect.
