  22. An invasion by a hostile alien, or rather, New God. An unpleasant scenario, and there were a good number of heroes in the world who did their part to fight it back. The Ghost was one of them, naturally, though he wasn't in the prominent position of being offered a spot in the original Justice League when it came about.
  23.
  24. That was fine with him; he'd worked best alone, anyway, and it would have interfered with his upcoming presidential campaign. Of course, sufficiently advanced technology was the excuse he used to keep active as the Ghost, despite it otherwise being apparently impossible to be in two places at once. Yet he pulled it off; nanotechnology, when applied fully, was quite the thing. And between appropriating alien technology, other scientists' breakthroughs and his own... well, let's just say the Ghost was in a league of his own.
  25.
  26. Oh, as time went on he eventually was invited aboard, once the Justice League expanded into the JLU. He and the Question got along distressingly well, though he made it a habit to actually investigate the conspiracy theories that were banded about between the two, abusing his powers as 'God-President of America and the Universe' as he (jokingly) put it. He found more truth than most would want to admit, and used said sweeping powers to actually do something about it rather than keeping status quo.
  27.
  28. He also used those presidential powers to integrate alien technology, to build Earth's technological base instead of keeping the planet's development stunted for no good reason whatsoever. Not to mention running for President at that time derailed Lex Luthor's plans horrendously and stymied him in the most hilarious of fashions.
  29.
  30. Beyond that, however... in the end, the nanotechnology he used was eventually integrated with other technologies. Alien nanotech is a lovely thing, the Dark Heart being the most prominent example of that, and working in concert with Dr. Ivo's notes on Amazo he was able to integrate it all into himself.
  31.
  32. He may have been sidelined due to political necessity during the Thanagarian invasion, and was not advanced enough to make more than a dent during Apokalips' first invasion, but the second time they invaded... the Ghost was everywhere. Quite literally. Parademons flooded into Earth, and a Ghost was at every portal to contain the outbreak, though engagement against Darkseid himself was rather ... limited. Copied superpowers were not a match for a New God, after all.
  33.
  34. Eventually, Lex Luthor of all people was the one to neutralize Darkseid. A number of villains who were allies of convenience were given a five minute head start. And the Ghost went back to work in the Oval Office, laying groundwork for a better tomorrow.
