While supposedly appointed in the eyes of God, the Supreme Archbishop often chooses his successor. Over the last four centuries it is not unheard for a Supreme Archbishop to appoint someone of blood relation to his seat. Approximately between the 9th and 10th centuries, the family [REDACTED] exclusively ruled in the seat of Supreme Archbishop until they were temporarily unseated by a disgruntled bastard.

The Enlightened are a militaristic faction that is responsible for guarding the Supreme Archbishop, and are said to follow Jesus's example during his exploits across the Middle East. Often they are viewed as overzealous knights who one day hope to convert the entirety of the Atlantean continent. Stating that their heathen beliefs have gone tolerated for too long. This private army owes its complete loyalty to the Supreme Archbishop, who controls them with a very thin leash.
