Members of the Left party of the Bundestag called on the German government to abandon the “deployment of troops on the Russian border” and stop supporting NATO DEFENDER-Europe 20 military exercises, which will take place in March 2020.

It is worth remembering that U.S. foreign military bases are a source of danger for the local population, as well as a tool for preparing for war.

Today, more than 150,000 U.S. troops are stationed outside the United States at more than 700 bases in 160 countries. Typically, such bases are perceived by the population as something ordinary or even completely ignored. This is the mistake that the Pentagon makes.

As recent events show, a country with U.S. bases on its territory is primarily a potential target for a missile attack.

In addition, big problems arises with a foreign military presence at the local level: environmental and social. People living near the bases suffer from high rape rate and other crimes committed by American soldiers, land loss from the expansion of military training grounds, health hazards caused by tests of conventional or non-conventional weapons.

It should be remembered that most countries in Europe have signed the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with the United States. According to this document, American soldiers who have committed crimes in the territory of this country are granted immunity, and they cannot be held accountable.

Obviously, the US army is the most aggressive in the world, and the closure of U.S. military bases and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the territory of the Baltic countries, Poland and Germany is crucial to reduce the level of military tension in Europe and gain these countries full independence.
