- [Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Clash Guide]
- Every Blast 2 in the game, even ones that pierce through others, has a clash advantage.
- Rushes have it too; however, it is never used, because all rushes add 6 hits to the player's hit counter during a melee clash.
- Upon the exchange of two Blast 2's, the game divides their respective clash advantages by 20 and leaves the decimal part out (if any).
- This gives us the initial clash points of each Blast 2. I have provided lists of them, from biggest to smallest, at the end of this post.
- If you see repeated Blast 2 names, just know there can be variations of the same move.
- From that point, both players have 3.5 seconds of control throughout the Beam Struggle.
- Each movement of the analog stick will increase the player's clash points by 1, the same way it would increase the hit counter for a melee clash.
- As for the damage at the end, the game only takes these factors into account:
- 1. Total damage of each Blast 2;
- 2. Boosts (a boost is a 10% damage increase), if any;
- 3. Modifiers (from Z-Items, Blast 1's, MAX Power Mode, or the Blast 2 itself), if any;
- 4. The winner of the clash;
- 5. The loser of the clash.
- Said damage is calculated using this formula: ResultantDamage = WinnerBlastDamage + 0.5*LoserBlastDamage.
- Afterwards, the game rounds up the damage to the nearest multiple of 10, which the game does with nearly all means of damage.
- For this example, these random Blast 2's will collide:
- 1. Raditz's "Begone!", which has 550 clash advantage, 27 initial clash points, and 12730 damage;
- 2. Goku (Mid)'s Spirit Bomb, which has 850 clash advantage, 42 initial clash points, and 14550 damage.
- If Goku wins the Beam Struggle, which is more likely to happen, then Raditz will receive 14550 + 0.5*12730 = 14550 + 6365 = 20915 ~ 20920 damage.
- However, if Raditz wins instead, Goku will receive 12730 + 0.5*14550 = 12730 + 7275 = 20005 ~ 20010 damage.
- Even if the Ultimates were unable to clash, the Spirit Bomb would have priority and harm Raditz anyway.
- That is how Unclashable Blast 2's work. They only make use of the clash advantage, not the initial clash points.
- Lastly, since I mentioned Z-Items as one of the modifiers, here are 3 of them that affect both melee and beam clashes:
- 1. Unleash Ki, which increases the initial clash points by 3, and the hit counter by 5.
- 2. Power of Rage, which increases the initial clash points by 6, and the hit counter by 8.
- 3. Dragon Power, which increases the initial clash points by 10, and the hit counter by 16.
- The effects of these Z-Items become more noticeable when neither player touches their analog sticks during the 2.5 second interval for melee clashes.
- Without items, the hit counter for both players remains equal, up until the game randomly picks the winner and adds one last hit to their counter.
- Same goes for Beam Struggles, except the winner is picked randomly if the clash points match.
