Fox News Channel is an American multinational cable news television channel. It is owned by Fox News Media, which itself is owned by News Corp. The channel broadcasts primarily from studios at 1211 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. Fox News provides service to 87 countries and overseas territories worldwide, with international broadcasts featuring Fox Extra segments during ad breaks.

The channel was created by Australian-American media mogul Rupert Murdoch to appeal to a conservative audience, hiring former Republican media consultant and CNBC executive Roger Ailes as its founding CEO. It launched on October 7, 1996, to 17 million cable subscribers. Fox News grew during the late 1990s and 2000s to become the dominant subscription news network in the U.S. As of September 2018, approximately 87,118,000 U.S. households (90.8% of television subscribers) receive Fox News. In 2019, Fox News was the top-rated cable network, averaging 2.5 million viewers.

At its debut 17 million households were able to watch FNC; however, it was absent from the media markets of New York City and Los Angeles. Rolling news coverage during the day consisted of 20-minute single-topic shows such as Fox on Crime or Fox on Politics, surrounded by news headlines. Interviews featured facts at the bottom of the screen about the topic or the guest. The flagship newscast at the time was The Schneider Report, with Mike Schneider's fast-paced delivery of the news. During the evening, Fox featured opinion shows: The O'Reilly Report (later The O'Reilly Factor), The Crier Report (hosted by Catherine Crier) and Hannity & Colmes.

From the beginning, FNC has placed heavy emphasis on visual presentation. Graphics were designed to be colorful and gain attention; this helped the viewer to grasp the main points of what was being said, even if they could not hear the host (with on-screen text summarizing the position of the interviewer or speaker, and "bullet points" when a host was delivering commentary). Fox News also created the "Fox News Alert", which interrupted its regular programming when a breaking news story occurred.

During the September 11, 2001 attacks, Fox News was the first news organization to run a news ticker on the bottom of the screen to keep up with the flow of information that day. The ticker has remained, informing viewers about additional news which reporters may not mention on-screen and repeating news mentioned during a broadcast; it has proven popular with viewers.

FNC presents a variety of programming with up to 20 hours of live broadcasting per day, in addition to programming and content for the Fox Broadcasting Company. Most programs are broadcast from Fox News headquarters in New York City (at 1211 Avenue of the Americas), in its streetside studio on Sixth Avenue in the west wing of Rockefeller Center, sharing its headquarters with sister channel Fox Business Network. Fox News Channel has eight studios at its New York City headquarters that are used for its and Fox Business' programming. The other programs are broadcast from Fox News's Washington, D.C. studios, located on Capitol Hill across from Union Station in a secured building shared by a number of other television networks (including NBC News and C-SPAN). Due to the shared ownership of Fox and Sky, Fox News (and Fox Business) and Sky News routinely share bureaus and reporters for breaking news stories from around the world.

Producing a variety of different programming, FNC has a number of different program hosts, news anchors, correspondents, and contributors who appear throughout daily programming on the channel. FNC has a number of different signature hosts, including Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Tucker Carlson, and Neil Cavuto all of whom host programs which are on the list of the top ten most watched programs on cable news.

Fox News Channel is a 24-hour general news service devoted to delivering fair and balanced news coverage, so viewers can make their own decisions about stories that affect their lives. The network offers 20 hours of live programming weekdays, covering breaking news around the globe, as well as political, business, sports and entertainment news. Providing more news daily than any other channel, Fox News Channel is home to a number of well-respected broadcast journalists including Chris Wallace, Brit Hume and Martha MacCallum. The network's signature opinion programs, Tucker Carlson Tonight and Hannity, are the two highest rated shows in cable news.

The channel lanuched on October 15, 2007 and serves as a spin-off from Fox News Channel. As of February 2015, Fox Business Network is available to approximately 74,224,000 pay television households (63.8% of households with television) in the United States.

Fox Business Network is based at News Corp's headquarters in midtown Manhattan and has bureaus in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Correspondents from Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal contribute to the channel. The channel broadcasts up to 16 hours of live broadcasting each weekday. The programs are broadcast from Fox News headquarters in New York City (at 1211 Avenue of the Americas), sharing its headquarters with sister channel Fox News Channel.

Fox Business Network is a financial news channel delivering real-time information across all platforms that impacts both Main Street and Wall Street throughout the day. The network reaches beyond market coverage with personal finance advice, business perspectives on general news and a "passionate" and "fun" style.

The channel airs coverage from Sky News Business Channel in United Kingdom and Sky News Business Channel in Australia during holiday periods and critical financial stories breaking in the overnights and on weekends in order to continue providing current financial news coverage to American audiences.

Fox Business Network displays continuous information on a "R"-shaped ticker placed at the lower and right-sides of the TV screen, with the right-side ticker named "The Fox Wing" used for additional content, such as stock market statistics, and a on-screen stock ticker on the lower part of the screen displaying list of stocks from Dow Jones, Nasdaq 100 and S&P 500 indices in alphabetical order. At the bottom of the screen, a rotating band, partitioned into four segments, provides the latest data on indices, currencies, commodities and the treasury market.

The channel broadcasts alternative programming separate from the Fox News Channel. Each program broadcast on Fox Nation provides distinctive viewpoints, whether it be focused on news of the day or topical, in-depth discussions. Fox Nation occasionally serves as an overflow channel for Fox Sports telecasts in the event of programming conflicts across Fox, Fox Sports 1, and Fox Sports 2, particularly college football.

Fox News Radio is an American radio network owned by Fox News. It is syndicated to over 500 AM and FM radio stations across the United States. It also supplies programming for two channels on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

The Fox News Radio Network provides around-the-clock newscasts at the beginning of each hour and at 30 minutes past the hour. Depending on a station's affiliation, it either receives a five-minute newscast at the beginning of each hour or a one-minute newscast which runs at the beginning of the hour or at 30 minutes after the hour. Breaking news reports (dubbed 'Fox News Alerts'), business news updates, correspondent and expert interviews, special broadcasts marking historic or newsworthy events, anchored live coverage and clean feeds of news events complete the affiliate service package. Affiliates also have access to a web site with a constantly updating selection of newsmaker audio and correspondent reports.

The five minute audio version of the hourly newscast consists of two minutes of news, one minute of advertisements or Fox promotions and two more minutes of news. In February 2017 the audio version eliminated the commercial break at the two-minute mark, so that the newscast ran for only four minutes. The commercial minute was restored in May 2017, returning it to a five-minute newscast. It is available as a podcast. As of 2011, typically only one MP3 file, the most recent one, is available at any time. The Eastern Time hour number converted to 24-hour time is incorporated into the file name (for example, 5minpodcast21.mp3 for 9 PM). However, if there has been exceptional news (a "Fox News Alert"), the file for that hour's podcast will be retained for a few hours. The current hour's file is usually available within 10 minutes of its broadcast, i.e., by a quarter past the hour.

Fox News Talk is a satellite radio channel that showcases talk shows and news reports from Fox News Channel personalities, along with other Fox News and talk programming. Fox News Talk carries a combination of Fox News syndicated radio programming, Fox News Channel show audio simulcasts, and Fox newscasts at the top and bottom of the hour.

Fox News Radio programs carried include shows hosted by Brian Kilmeade (9 a.m. to 12 p.m. E.T.), Todd Starnes (12 p.m. to 3 p.m. E.T.) and Guy Benson (3 p.m. to 6 p.m. E.T.). Each show is repeated late nights and on weekends.

Fox News Headlines 24/7 is a live-anchored satellite all-news radio channel with a dedicated editorial staff, providing a panorama of the day's news "from Hollywood to Wall Street to Main Street." The channel lanuched in late 2015.

News is presented in fifteen-minute blocks. Six anchors each day are assigned to eight-hour air shifts, with one hour on and one hour off over the course of the shift. Additional features include sports at :05 and :35 past, business at :12 and :42 and entertainment news at :28 and :58. The station does not suspend its format for breaking news coverage, which is the role of Fox News Channel.
