Bring Me To My Way (from Red Star: The Musical)

[Resmi enters stage left, at a light jog. She leans on a sign post at center-stage and catches her breath. She looks left and right twice before cautiously removing her hood. A harp is plucked as she looks up to the sky and the slow, wistful, almost hymnal instrumentation comes in]

RESMI:
It's been so long since I've rested,
I can, at least, allow myself to slow,
Because though I know where I'm
Running from, I've no clue where to go

But I know that he has been looking down on me
Since I fled from all I knew that wretched day,
And I hope now that he will reward my faith,
I hope that he will bring me on my way

[Putting her hood up Resmi exits stage right. The music continues while the scene is changed somehow to that of a village. There are a few peasants talking to each other. Resmi enters stage left]

RESMI:
Such sights have I seen on my journey,
I never knew the world was full as this.
There's yet more in this land that I long to find
And at least there's only two things that I miss

And I see that there is much for me to do here
Just show me a clear place to start, I pray,
For I know I was sent out here for a reason
And I ask you now to bring me on my way

[Resmi crosses slowly to stage right]

PEASANT: [Spoken]
You hear adventurers been gathering next town over?

OTHER PEASANT: [Spoken]
For what? Yellow Dragons again?

[Resmi stops just after the gaggle of peasants and visibly listens]

PEASANT: [Spoken]
It's the Red Star, isn't it?

OTHER PEASANT: [Spoken]
Tch. Just an excuse for them adventurers to be gallivanting about you ask me.

PEASANT: [Spoken]
Well, someone's got to save the world.

RESMI: [Spoken]
Excuse me, could you give me directions to this town, please?

[The peasants point and Resmi exits stage right again. The stage is cleared again and Resmi bounds on from stage left, hood already down, and sings exuberantly while approaching centre-stage with purpose. The music swells joyously]

RESMI:
I feel a change inside me, all a sudden,
It's almost like the clearing of a cloud,
At long last, with purpose, I can face the world;
My voice is free and I can speak aloud!
And I swear by Apsu above me that
I will make my Father proud!

[Spotlight on Resmi, music swells like a motherfucker]

RESMI:
Because finally I know what I was sent for
I will help those noble heroes save the day!
From the bottom of my heart, I cry a thank you
For bringing me, my Father, to my way

[Spotlight fades]
