Somber #9

[18:11:21]	Somber	The companions had come to Olives looking for some help. What they had found were ponies not interested in helping anyone. Though Shimmershy managed to talk her way into their lower levels where they met with one of Faculty, a professor Tangerine. The odd 'replicant' pony had scanned the 'tea' and found it contained some strange preservative.
[18:12:25]	They'd been referred to a Professor Sparkle though, as head of magical research. However, all of them had been stymed by a magical door that had done all it could to drive them away... getting increasingly violent with each one.
[18:14:09]	Shimmershy	let out a muted 'mmmf' from her still-taped-shut mouth, looking at the door with sadness and shuffling her forehoof. She glanced towards Night Wind then the door again.
[18:15:04]	Somber	The red stallion fidgeted back and forth. "Listen... um... misses... when it comes to professor Sparkle... um... well... nopony bothers her. Not unless she asks for you. She's head of the Faculty, after all."
[18:15:33]	Edna_Stonetallon	stares at the door "Hmmm... open sesame?"
[18:16:22]	Somber	The door doesn't speak saddle arabian...
[18:17:02]	Edna_Stonetallon	shrugs "Read it in a book somewhere"
[18:17:32]	Wanderlust	looks at Edna, completely perplexed. "Was that supposed to do something?"
[18:18:04]	Somber	"I can take you to a different member if you like," the stallion said as he backed away from the simple looking door.
[18:18:13]	Night_Wind	picks herself up slowly, rubbing a hoof gingerly against her bruised backside. "For the love of Celestia, why won't this door open?"
[18:18:57]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Tell it you're an alicorn or something. Maybe that'll work"
[18:23:24]	Night_Wind	winces as she takes a step towards the door. "I don't know if I'll survive another rejection. I wasn't fully healed when that door attacked me, and I think it may have broken my pelvis. Just a hairline fracture, but I would very much like a healing potion before attempting anything like that again."
[18:24:07]	Somber	"Professor Sparkle really doesn't like interruptions. She probably magicked the door..." the stallion said and then smiled at night. "We should go. Right away."
[18:25:04]	Shimmershy	hung her head a little sadly, moving up towards Night Wind and gensturing towards the door and up at her horns and then towards the wings then at the door again.
[18:29:06]	Wanderlust	gives Night_Wind a concerned look. "You should have mentioned that before. I still have enough in me for another healing spell or two." He steps up and his horn immediately begins to glow as it touches the alicorn.
[18:29:44]	Night_Wind	frowns at the door. "I have a feeling that door is operating under a complex variant of the Come-to-Life spell, one that allows it to use magic, though I've never heard of such a thing. Then again, I've never met the head of the Ministry of Arcane Science before either."
[18:31:04]	Shimmershy	groans a little bit, facehoofing and just sortof moving back from the Alicorn to let Wanderlust heal her.
[18:33:30]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Come here Shimmer. Let me see if I can't do something about that tape" holding up one of her talons
[18:34:41]	Shimmershy	looks up towards Edna, mmmfing softly and going wide-eyed, she shrinks back a little but thankfully doesn't actually bolt.
[18:39:24]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Aww... you don't trust me Shimmer. That hurts you know." and going to sit in a corner pouting
[18:39:48]	Wanderlust	finishes his healing spell on Night and looks around a little desperately, shifting on his hooves. "Um... did anyone happen to see a bathroom in here?" He asks sheepishly, his other thoughts pushed aside for the moment.
[18:40:17]	Somber	The stallion frowns and points down the hall with a hoof. Um... down that way.
[18:40:28]	"Um, down that way..."
[18:40:32]	Night_Wind	sighs with relief as Wander's healing runs through her. "That helps. Thank you, Wander. You're a good friend." She takes a breath, psyching herself up. "Okay, I think we need to get a bit more personal with this. I just hope I'm doing this right..." Nervously she approaches and gently raps on the door. "Twilight, I'd like to talk to you about Spike. He misses you."
[18:41:25]	Wanderlust	takes off at a quick trot, trying to save some of his integrity by not running all out.
[18:42:01]	Somber	There was nothing for almost a minute. Then then was a small pop and a pony's ear appeared in the middle. The red stallion gaped in shock. "Never seen it do that before!"
[18:43:23]	Edna_Stonetallon	continues pouting because Shimmer doesn't trust her

[18:47:03]	Shimmershy	hangs her head a little at Edna's reaction to her worry. It wasn't like she wanted to insult the griffon. Just... Sharp claws and sealed lips don't mix well... She lookws up towards Night Wind and the doorway.

[18:50:14]	Night_Wind	closes her eyes for a moment then carefully speaks. "Spike has faithfully guarded the Gardens of Equestria project for you for the past two hundred plus years. He finally was able to complete your greatest work three years ago, gathering a new set of Element Bearers to unleash the Gardens of Equestria to cleanse the land."
[18:51:33]	Shimmershy	looks up, back down the hall as one of her ears twitches, wincing slightly. What were they going to do about this...
[18:54:36]	Somber	Again, there was nothing. Then the ear disappears in a little pop and then there's a click and the doors open a little, reveiling a hallway with the walls, ceiling, and floor covered with papers and stacks of books and readouts.
[18:56:06]	Edna_Stonetallon	sighs and hears yelling coming from down in the little colts room "Give em hell Wander. You show that turd who's boss"
[18:57:36]	Shimmershy	looks back towards the doorway as it clicks open, motioning to Night Wind to enter. She wasn't sure any of the others were invited. But at least the Alicorn might be.
[18:58:29]	Somber	The stallion's jaw drops. "Ah... I'll stay here. Um... till you're done..."
[18:58:50]	Night_Wind	breathes a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness that worked." She gives a nod to Shimmer then moves through the open door.
[18:59:21]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Maybe someone should go check on Wander. That don't sound good" and walks over to the door "Umm... Wander you ok?"
[19:00:44]	Shimmershy	nervously glances back and forth between the open door and the bathroom. She wanted to help, but she wasn't sure what to do to help Wanderlust. Instead slinking off after Night Wind, assuming the door would let her.
[19:00:51]	Wanderlust	manages to groan after a few minutes of silence. "F-Fine. Never better." He says shakily through the door.
[19:03:11]	Edna_Stonetallon	calls out "FUCK!! We need a doctor now!!" and then sees some... thing moving in the bowl "The fuck is that!?"
[19:03:49]	Somber	The door didn't close after Nightwind stepped through. At the end of the hall was something that appeared half library and half laboratory. There were a number of terminals and a large mirror standing in the middle. A white unicorn with a striped mane the faintest of purples looked at one terminal, tapping the keys softly with her magic as she looked on
[19:05:04]	through a pair of wire frame glasses. She didn't look up as she said, "Not many know that name..." she said quietly as she worked. "You're one of Trixie's dopplegangers, aren't you?"
[19:06:11]	The stallion blinked, poked his head into the bathroom, and immediately rushed for a medic. Whatever had been in the toilet was now a foul heap of oozing filth...
[19:06:32]	Wanderlust	growls as Edna shoves her way in. "I /am/ a doctor jerk..." his horn glows as he starts to fix himself and hopefully make it look better than it was. He was looking bedraggled and more than a little disturbed. "I think we know how those ponies that leave die now..." he says with a shiver.
[19:06:48]	Shimmershy	swallowed nervously as she followed after Night Wind, keeping her head low and listening silently.
[19:11:44]	Night_Wind	steps into the room and solemnly nods her head. "I am. Trixie...I'm sad to say that because of her vast power coupled with her monomania, the only solution Littlepip could come up with was to destroy her. That freed the souls she had consumed including...well, your soul. Or rather the soul that was in your original body."
[19:12:04]	Edna_Stonetallon	hugs Wander gently "Thought you were diein on me." and has a terrible idea "Hold that thought" and with a cringe rolls up her sleeves and digs an empty bottle out from her pack "I am going to regret this"
[19:13:28]	Wanderlust	leans into the hug, too shocked to do much else.
[19:13:36]	Edna_Stonetallon	tries to get a sample... but gags and runs to the next stall, loosing her lunch
[19:16:03]	Somber	"Oh? And how do you know she was the original?" She asked without looking up from her screens as she typed. Finally, she sighed, "In the last year of the war I found myself... busy. There was just too much going on for one mare to handle." She tapped errantly a moment. "Mmmm... Strain 4446 looks interesting... Anyway, when we were younger, Pinkie Pie
[19:17:51]	knew of a magical pool that could copy a mare. I was intrigued. So... I went back and used it to make an extra Twilight or two. Nopony realized... they simply thought I was teleporting all over Equestria and being incredilbly productive." She gave a ghost of a smile. "Unfortunately, each copy is more and more unstable and erractic and I had to stop...
[19:17:57]	for the best, I suppose..."
[19:19:22]	Night_Wind	blinks and taps a hoof against her chin. "Hmmm...when you put it like that, I don't actually know who was the original. Do you?"
[19:21:20]	Somber	"I suppose it really doesn't matter, in the end. I am me. One, I know, died in Maripony. Another was in Canterlot. As for the others..." she gave a little shrug. "I was here working on Megaspells with the MoP. While battlefield trials might not have worked, we were hoping to develop a megaspell in a box that could be used for wide spread healing.
[19:21:36]	'antibombs', they were called. Never really worked out."
[19:22:07]	Wanderlust	picks up the bottle that Edna dropped in her haste to throw up and levitates it into the bowl. "I really hope there's something worthwhile in this..." he mutters as he pulls it out, full of nasty sludge. He leaves it next to the bowl, not wanting to get it any closer to himself than he had to.
[19:24:27]	Edna_Stonetallon	stumbles out of the stall and over to the sink, washing the vomit off her face and rinsing out her mouth
[19:24:47]	Shimmershy	let out a quiet 'mmf' as she watched the duplicate-sparkle from the sidelines.
[19:26:09]	Somber	The stallion comes back with a healing potion in his mouth. He spat it into his hooves. "Um... will... will this help?
[19:27:11]	Edna_Stonetallon	points to Wander, her face still in the sink
[19:27:41]	Wanderlust	grabs the healing potion and downs it. He felt better but he didn't want to take any chances. Especially if there were still a few of those worms inside him. He shivers and curls back up with a muttered thanks.
[19:31:32]	Night_Wind	slowly nods. "Well, your Maripony self didn't exactly die - she was absorbed into 'The Goddess' along with Trixie, Gestalt and Mosaic, and all of the rest that survived the bomb and the alicorn conversion process. Someone did perfect a spell in a box, just not that spell. It was used to transform...oh dear...this part is complicated. The Littlehorn Agent was unleashed on
[19:31:33]	Canterlot, and in an attempt to destroy it, the mother of the Canterlot dragons ate the megaspell."
	winces as she admits, "That...really didn't work out so well. The Littlehorn Agent caused the megaspell to fuse to her and turned her effectively into a living megaspell that constantly breathes out that awful pink cloud. The spell-in-a-box was used to transform her into a mouse. Spike's mom is now very small, very cute, and still quite deadly to be near."
[19:34:25]	Somber	Finally, the pale unicorn looked over at Night_Wind and gave an actual smile. "She ate it? Well... that is the normal dragon solution for everything. Still, the spell in a box worked! I knew I'd work it out eventually." She looked back at the terminal and resumed typing. "So... what do you want?" She asked as she looked at the screens.
[19:34:26]	Edna_Stonetallon	goes and help Wander up "Fumbles got that door open. We should get that... sample to this Dr. Sparkle"
[19:35:21]	Shimmershy	lets out a more pronounced 'mmmf!', looking up to Night Wind.
[19:38:22]	Wanderlust	gets to his hooves, but is still shivering. "I... I think I want to just get cleaned up first." He says. "The sample isn't going anywhere."
[19:38:24]	Night_Wind	smiles back and nods. "Well, for a start, could you please remove the tape from my friend Shimmer's mouth? Your door spell is a bit harsh. You might want to adjust its tolerances unless you truly feel hospitalizing people is warranted." She pauses then and adds, "There are other bits of information you should know. In the process of dealing with 'The Goddess' and the
	pegasus Enclave, Littlepip uncovered the fate's of your friends."
[19:39:47]	Edna_Stonetallon	nods "Take your time sweetie. Think you've earned a reprieve from teasing for a while to."
[19:40:15]	Somber	"It wears off in an hour," she says, but her horn flashed and the tape disappeared. "And you might want to consider there's a great number of people who want my help, my advice, my head, or any number of other things that keeps me from my work. That's why the Faculty exists. So that I can do work without distractions." She said sharply as she glared
[19:41:00]	at the screen. "I got my friends killed. I don't need to know more than that." She said, almost snapping at she glared at the screen.
[19:42:49]	Shimmershy	blecks a moment and spends a few seconds flexing her lips to make sure they were clean, and weren't numb, before finally speaking up. "W-we need your help. Night Wind or Wanderlust needs a spell which can strip illusions. And, um, and Changeling shape-shifting. I-if that's possible..." She swallowed nervously.
[19:44:32]	Somber	She paused and then rose to her hooves... her pale lavender eyes narrowing as she looked at Shimmershy. "Changelings?" She said soft and arch as she glowered at Shimmershy.
[19:47:25]	Wanderlust	gives Edna a weary smile. "Thank you. I wish we could just go home at this point" He mumbles as he tries to wash the blood out of his coat on his rear legs with mixed success.
[19:48:06]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Yeah I know the feeling. I ain't getting paid enough for this shit"
[19:50:32]	Shimmershy	swallowed nervously and nodded her head. "Th-there's a settlement, by the name of Solace. Th-they've found an Alicorn, one who looks like Celestia. Wh-who's been pushing them into conflict with another settlement, Spark Town. I th-think that the alicorn is a Changeling pretending to be Celestia to feed off their worship and adoration of her." She lowers her head and looks
	down at the floor. "B-but I'm not sure. And I don't want to confront her about it without something to prove whether or not it's true..."
[19:52:53]	Wanderlust	"I'm not even getting that." Wanderlust jokes. "And I've had so much fun already. Going insane to phage, being implanted with flesh-eating worms... good times." He coughs to cover a choking sob. "I just want to get out of this in one piece..."
[19:52:55]	Somber	"Right... In fact, I have exactly such a spell..." and a scarlet beam flashes out of her horn, straight at Shimmershy!
[19:53:39]	Night_Wind	blinks at the mare. "Be that as it may, I think materializing a boot inside a shield and kicking with enough force to break bone is a bit overzealous for a polite knock! And Twilight, you aren't entirely correct. Yes, Pinkie Pie did die, but moments before the bomb in Manehattan went off, she was trying to email you and say she was sorry, and you were right. She was going

[19:53:44]	continues before Twilight can object. "The fate of Rainbow Dash remains unclear. We do know she survived the initial attack, but the newly formed pegasus Enclave sent Gilda to assassinate her. Applejack made it to Stable 2, and her decendants survive to this day. Rarity died as well, but she managed to save Fluttershy before the Littlehorn agent leaked in."
[19:53:46]	rests a hoof gently on Twilight's shoulder explaining, "The poison joke of the Everfree has become visciously mutated, cruel in its transformations and capable of moving about alarmingly fast - a strain known as killing joke. [20:06:16]	Wanderlust	takes a moment to recover his senses and scoops up the "sample". "Alright, lets go, I'll manage." He follows Edna out.
[20:08:58]	Somber	The two walked into the lab and come across an amazing sight of Twilight standing there with a beam pistol and Night Wind standing over this strange white bug pony thing...
[20:11:26]	Edna_Stonetallon	"Hey Fumbles Shimmer.... what the hell is that? You know that's the second time I've said that in the last ten minuets"
[20:12:05]	Wanderlust	just gawks at the stange bug pony thing.
[20:13:36]	Night_Wind	heaves a sigh and hangs her head but still doesn't let loose of Shimmer. "I don't know anything about Changelings, but I know Shimmershy worked for Scarlet Traders before coming here. I know she has been a good friend to us, helping us and other ponies along the way. I know she's never learned anything about fighting and has never even suggested she wanted to hurt
[20:13:37]	anyone...well, except for Sweet Tea, but Wander's called first dibs on her if the situation permits. Sweet Tea is apparently a monster."
[20:15:39]	Edna_Stonetallon	looks rather confused but eventually puts two and two together "Son of a bitch! You telling me that this is Shimmer!?"
[20:16:13]	Somber	puts the pistol away. "It's your head, but I'd suggest you finish it off before it sucks your emotions from your skull." She turned away from them, back to the terminals. "Well, takes one to know one. In any case, thank you for letting me know what happened to my friends. I won't be seeing Fluttershy... but it's good to know she didn't die. And that
[20:16:52]	Somber	Pinkie wanted help at the end. I hope that one of my copies contacted her before the end..."
[20:18:26]	Wanderlust	shakes the shock off. "Is she alright? She barely looks like she's breathing..." He walks over and starts casting a healing spell, just to be safe. Bug thing or not, Shimmershy was a friend and that's all that mattered.
[20:20:41]	Somber	"That spell is very effective against their kind. If she's breathing, she'll recover. Eventually. It's just painful to non-changlings." she said boredly as she typed with her magic.
[20:20:59]	"Now, if you'll excuse me... I have research to do."

[20:24:41]	Night_Wind	blinks. "W..wait, we actually did come here for a reason. We're trying to get to the heart of what's wrong with Appleanta, and part of that means straightening out Solace which, if Shimmer is right, very well *could* be the home of one or more Changelings, AND we need to free the ponies of Unicornia who are being dosed with some sort of biological agent which robs them of
	their magic and eventually kills them if they don't take a suppressant regularly."
[20:25:23]	Wanderlust	tries and fails to suppress a very violent shiver. "You don't know the half of it." He mumbles
[20:25:51]	Shimmershy	groaned slightly and began to open her eyes. Her mane, surprising enough she still had one, had a funny kind of hole in it right over her other eye, enough so to give easy vision through it. The characteristic swiss-cheese holes of a Changeling marking her legs, mane and tail, and her gnarled, kinked horn shining slightly beneath the lights. Shimmering, irridescent wings
[20:25:52]	which also had holes in them twitched slightly as she began to struggle back to consciousness. Only to find herself coming face to face with Wanderlust, and quickly realizing she was, in fact, in her natural state. Not a good combination. Which resulted in her prompetly yelping in shock and doing her best to both spring to her hooves, fly up into the air and run away and hide all
	at once.
[20:26:32]	Edna_Stonetallon	raises a talon "We got a... sample of what they're usin now. And I don't think we'll need to worry about Wander keelin over on us... I hope"
[20:27:07]	Somber	"Well then, I suggest you get to it then. Chop chop. When you're done with that, there's a band of slavers opperating south of Fillydelphia who are taking ponies to sell as meat to griffon mercs. Oh, and don't forget the Crystal Wasteland. Must do something about that. And then there's the zebra lands. You can't imagine how messed up those are. Better
[20:27:32]	get busy." she said as she scowled at the terminal, the keys blurring as she typed them rapidly.
[20:29:00]	Wanderlust	doesn't try to stop Shimmershy, though he does shift back a bit to make sure he doesn't get smacked from her flailing. "Easy! Shimmershy, relax!"
[20:30:49]	Night_Wind	continues to hold Shimmer as she struggles and gives the strange bug-mare another gentle hug. Her attention though is on the Twilight replicant, and she frowns answering, "What are you so busy researching that you can't stop and help the ponies around you who need help right now?"
[20:32:18]	Shimmershy	huffs for breath as she finds herself restrained by Night Wind. Which really only makes her struggle more for a brief time before she seems to deflate a little and go a bit limp. "No... nononono... It's not... It wasn't." She stares down at her white hooves in obvious fear. "Please don't hurt me. Please don't hurt me." Closing her eyes and shrinking away from Wanderlust,
[20:32:19]	even shuddering at the hug like she half expected to get crushed.
[20:33:50]	Wanderlust	feels hurt at Shimmershy's reaction, even if it is sensible. "We won't hurt you, you're our friend remember?" He says, just trying to keep her calm.
[20:34:17]	Somber	"My help...?" She scowled as she looked at Night_Wind? "MY help?" She pointed her hoof at the terminal screens showing various pictures of the wasteland. "Have you seen what my help has done?! My help..." She slammed the terminal screen she was working on down with her magic and whirled on Night_Wind. "My help wasn't much good to Pinkie Pie, was it? My
[20:36:05]	help didn't exactly do much to help Canterlot, did it? Didn't do much help for your Goddess either? You want my help? Here's my help: figure it out yourself. I've had two centuries of people begging me for help and do you know how much good my help was? Zilch?
[20:37:31]	They died, killed, or robbed each other anyway. I spent twenty years trying to turn Appleanta into some pocket of civilization. All I was able to do on my own was this little college. As soon as the mare winds down, she reaches out her free hoof though and rests it gently on Twilight's shoulder. "You didn't kill Pinkie Pie. The zebra bomb in Manehattan did. Your help however did give us the Gardens of Equestria project, and while it took a long time, Spike was patient,
[20:41:37]	and he got it to work. Beyond the boundaries of Appleanta, the wasteland is free of taint and radiation."

[20:43:18]	Wanderlust	ignores the pity-party unicorn and focuses on the terrified... something in front of him. He pats her awkwardly on the head, trying to be gentle. "You're still our friend no matter what you are." He says softly. He wished Shimmershy was here to help psycho-analyze herself, he was terrible at this kind of thing...
[20:45:08]	Somber	"I wasn't worth my friends. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do. Maybe one of the other professors here can help you. They're all experts in their fields. Doctor Quickcure is the biological specialist here. Maybe he can help you. Last I heard he was meeting with a local over the phage... thinking we had a cure for it." she said as she shook her

[20:46:51]	Shimmershy	shivered a little more and bit her lower lip, slowly beginning to calm down, as the nature of Twilight's rampage sunk in through her head and she quietly spoke up, finally. "B-but... If we don't... Who will?" Her voice was little more than a whisper, really. Still frightened of what others would think of her at this point. "If... If everyone just says someone else should
	do it... Then who will do it?" She closes her eyes tighter as little tears run down her cheeks. "I'm s-sorry. I can't help being what I am. B-but I don't want to hurt anyone. And I know how much it hurts to lose everything you've cared about. But... But if no one is going to make things better then things will never be better." She sags a little more in Night Wind's hoof. Going
	quiet again and shying away from Wanderlust's hoofpats, though not as dramatically as before.
[20:50:16]	Somber	"I won't. You will. I have my own projects. You care, you fix it." she said as she glared at Shimmer. "What you are is a fiend that leeches the hopes and love of others. I saw what you did to my brother, and to canterlot. Tell your hive that they'll have to try harder to leech my memories and thoughts." She said sharply.
[20:50:26]	Wanderlust	just keeps up the hoofpats and trying to be there for his friend. He didn't have all that much sympathy for Twilight who was too busy wrapped up in her own pity to do something about it despite everything that had been said, and Shimmershy clearly needed the attention more.

[22:38:06]	Somber	nodded, took her to the back, used a needle to draw some... ichor... and then lets her rest. Fifteen minutes later, he feels shimmery. An hour later, she can change again.

[22:48:39]	Swamp_Shadow	"Okay, Nighty." Swamp Shadow says with a smile before pointing to Night Wind and Edna. "So y'all are a couple? This has been an interestin' day."
[22:48:41]	Wanderlust	looks between Night and Edna. There at been some teasing before but that was just outright... he shakes his head. More important things to think about.
