- How to make whatever you write a complete pain to read
- Do you want to write and contribute in the worst way possible, creating negative manpower and sabotaging the entire project, yet seemingly just wanting to help through mostly grammatically correct writing? Here is a comprehensive guide to help you achieve your dreams!
- ======= First draft ======
- First, you'd want to have a draft on whatever you want to write. This draft can be good or bad; I advise writing it like you would normally. Below will be what to do to really mess up your writing.
- ======= Structure =======
- The most important aspect in readability is structure and punctuation. An unnavigable mess can occur from terms, pacing and order; the lack thereof, or without no punctuation placed unreasonably, just like this exact sentence. Below are aspects to a well-structured anti-structure in writing.
- - Punctuate: Use commas often and in large groups, which should be placed to maximize the amount of connecting words (such as “that” or “which”) with a comma immediately before. Make long sentences unbearably long, and short sentences vanishingly short. Use parenthesis often, and recursively chain them whenever possible.
- - Pacing: Describe the bulk of the content in a big paragraph, then the additional content in extremely long sentences or assortments of shockingly short sentences (but only choose one, to make the writing profile consistent); the main content may be split into several parts if irrelevant parts are inserted in between (or better yet, parts that exclusively reference ideas described later).
- ======= Wording =======
- Another very important aspect in readability is the choice of words. While a poor choice of words can result in confusion and multiple interpretations, a deliberately crafted construct can ensnare readers in their place until they quit, ensuring maximum comprehension from the second source of your choice.
- - Negation: By far the most important in wording, chaining different negation statements together greatly increases the level of confusion. Negation statements include “no” and “not”; prefixes such as “un-”, “in-”, and “anti-”; antonyms; or cliches such as “it cannot be said that”. Try to only use each unique negation statement once.
- - Pronouns & references: Whenever a new object, person, or idea is introduced, reference it by its name a maximum of one time. For all subsequent times, use pronouns such as “it”, “he”/”she”/“they”, “the [broad identifier]”, “that”, etc.
- - Synonyms: Use plenty of synonyms, especially try to convert them into oversimplified word definitions and verbose phrases. This step should especially emphasize the words that have been negated via prefixes. However, do not go too far, or it will be very obvious.
- ======= Content =======
- The content of the text is what most people read the text for, so messing it up can further discourage people from reading further. Here are a few additional ways to induce maximum confusion:
- - Excessive info: Add as much information as possible to the introduction. Avoid using useful organizational tools such as bullet lists or numbered lists, and instead put every item into a big paragraph separated by commas.
- - Redundant info: For all information included, duplicate at least 50% of them into another paraphrased instance.
- - Dislocate info: Use a randomizer to completely randomize the info presented so that (hopefully) related information are in completely arbitrary locations far away with no logical order. Then, look through it and put the most irrelevant information in the front and the most relevant information in the middle (but closer to the back). If a term or idea requires understanding another term or idea, make sure that the text describing the prerequisite is as far from the target text as possible; ideally at least 8 sentences after or 16 sentences before.
- ======= Example =======
- Below we will demonstrate an instance of the transformation from an informative snippet to a complete abomination:
- The Industrial Revolution's aftereffects are still noticeable today. In developed nations, the majority of people today can buy consumer products that fifty or sixty years ago would have been considered luxuries. Additionally, compared to workers in the 19th century, their living and working conditions are significantly better. Tax revenues were also generated by the industrialization-related earnings. The majority of city people now enjoy a higher level of living thanks to investments made by local, state, and federal governments in urban infrastructure.
- After scrambling the punctuation:
- The Industrial Revolution's aftereffects are still noticeable today. (in developed nations) The (majority of) people today can buy consumer products (which fifty or sixty years ago would have been considered luxuries which additionally, (compared to workers (in the 19th century)), their living and working conditions are significantly better). Tax revenues were generated, especially the industrialization-related earnings, the majority of (city) people now enjoy a higher level of living. (Thanks to investments made by local, state, and federal governments in urban infrastructure)
- After modifying the pacing:
- The Industrial Revolution's aftereffects are still noticeable today, (in developed nations) the (majority of) people today, can buy consumer products. (which fifty or sixty years ago would have been considered luxuries which additionally, (compared to workers (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions are significantly better) Tax revenues were generated. Especially the industrialization-related earnings. The majority of (city) people now enjoy a higher level of living. (Thanks to investments made by local, state, and federal governments in urban infrastructure)
- After adding negations:
- It cannot be said that the Industrial Revolution's aftereffects still aren’t too unnoticeable today, (apart from the underdeveloped nations) the (majority of) people today, can buy consumer products. (which fifty or sixty years ago wouldn’t have been considered commodities which additionally, (compared to workers (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions aren’t insignificantly not worse) Tax revenues were generated. Especially the industrialization-related earnings. For a very minority of (city) people, it is no longer the case that they do not suffer a lower level of living. (Thanks to investments made by local, state, and federal governments in urban infrastructure)
- After sorting pronouns:
- It cannot be said that the Industrial Revolution's aftereffects still aren’t too unnoticeable today, (apart from the underdeveloped nations) the (majority of) people today, can buy consumer products. (which fifty or sixty years ago wouldn’t have been considered commodities which additionally, (compared to workers (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions aren’t insignificantly not worse) Tax revenues were generated. Especially the industrialization-related earnings. (For those under the federal government) For a very minority of them, it is no longer the case that they do not suffer a lower level of living. (Thanks to investments made by them, the state, and its contributions to urban infrastructure)
- After synonyms:
- It cannot be said that the Industrial Revolution's events after it still aren’t too obscure today, (apart from the underdeveloped nations) the (majority of) people today, can buy consumer products. (which fifty or sixty years ago wouldn’t have been considered things that can be commonly bought which additionally, (compared to employees (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions aren’t trivially not worse) Tax revenues existed past 0. Especially the industrialization-related earnings. (For those under the federal government) For a very minority of them, it is no longer the case that they do not suffer a lower level of living. (Thanks to imports of direct value made by them, the state, and its contributions to urban infrastructure)
- After info duplication:
- Industrialization spawned earnings, where it cannot be said that the Industrial Revolution's events after it still aren’t too obscure today, (apart from the underdeveloped nations) the (majority of) people today, can buy consumer products, which did not sabotage the go-ups from tax. (which fifty or sixty years ago wouldn’t have been considered things that can be commonly bought which additionally, (compared to employees (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions aren’t trivially not worse) Tax revenues existed past 0. Especially the industrialization-related earnings. (For those under the federal government) For a very minority of them, it is no longer the case that they do not suffer a lower level of living, and can afford certain products. (Thanks to imports of direct value made by them, the state, and its contributions to urban infrastructure, and that wouldn’t be economical some years ago)
- After info relocation:
- The (majority of) people today can buy consumer products, which, especially the industrialization-related earnings, did not sabotage the go-ups from tax. (apart from the underdeveloped nations, which fifty or sixty years ago wouldn’t have been considered things that can be commonly bought which additionally, (compared to employees (in the 19th century)) their living and working conditions aren’t trivially not worse) Thus, industrialization spawned earnings, where it cannot be said that the Industrial Revolution's events after it still aren’t too obscure today. (Thanks to imports of direct value made by them, the state, and its contributions to urban infrastructure, and that wouldn’t be economical some years ago) Tax revenues existed past 0. (For those under the federal government) For a very minority of them, it is no longer the case that they do not suffer a lower level of living, and can afford certain products.
