21:23:15 aldermikov: I was arguing/debating a student today about creation/evolution and he was really just throwing nonsense my way. How can you get through to people who are so convinced that their opinion is right when you provide them the contrary?
21:24:29 Ben: The issue is that their belief in creationism is not the only foundation for their faith. Sometimes you might be able to spark some self reflection, but often a creationist will retreat to their comfort zone.

21:25:11 aldermikov: And by nonsense I mean his argument against evolution was that scientists lie about fossil dating and when I tried to explain the geographic distribution of species and natural selection, etc. they just skip everything I say and go to saying something about Darwin recanting on his deathbed or something like that.

21:26:48 aldermikov: I don't want to walk away from the argument even if it seems like it won't go anywhere because I don't wish ignorance on anyone, it's just hard to keep things in line without being dragged away from the topic being discussed.
