  45. Traits:
  46. Hailing from the north-eastern ranges of Equestria, Baolin Yao (often simply going by his given name, Baolin) grew up with his tribe in the cold wilderness of the mountains. His mother died in childbirth, and so he was raised as an only child by his father Lianchu Yao, who trained him to be a mighty warrior. After being taught the ways of his native tribe, he left his home at a young age to travel the world in pilgrimage for 7 years, just as his father did. When he returned, his father was gone, along with the rest of his village. With nothing left for him in his hometown, he set off in search for his missing kin...
  47. Baolin is large, as yaks often are, standing a good 3 heads taller than the average pony at the shoulder. His coat is black and brown with a coarse texture. Fur grows over his chin to form a shaggy beard and over his small, beady eyes, often impeding his vision. His horns are short and stumpy, which he often laments; his father was not only the leader of his tribe and the strongest fighter of all, but also known for having tremendous horns which he used in combat to great effect. While Baolin is a tenacious fighter in his own right, he strives to be as powerful as his father was, looking up to him as a role model and inspiration.
  48. Baolin is amicable towards others, but somewhat aloof, awkward and overly trusting due to having grown up in relative isolation. He speaks little, but when he does he is well heard, having a deep, rumbling voice. He holds all living things in balance as is part of his training, having a deep respect for nature in particular. He is very careful not to harm plants or animals as a result, being angered by those who do so; he has been known to mourn the loss of trees on occasion, despising those that harm them in particular. He is also angered by those that upset what he calls Balance, often lecturing or even fighting those that accompany him on his journeys.
  49. While many of his tribe are (or perhaps were) pacifists, Baolin is a skilled warrior due to having trained with his father. He is proficient with the meteor hammer, which few including his father have managed to master. He also is skilled at traditional martial arts, utilizing his impressive strength and size in combat. The bangles he wears around his front legs mark him as a warrior of his clan, and he values them greatly, having forged and engraved them himself as part of his training. Through invoking their power by stomping the ground or clapping his hooves together, he can call upon nature itself to aid him in combat. His one flaw in combat is that he is deathly afraid of spiders; he is reduced to a trembling mess just by looking at one.
  50. Though he possesses great stamina, he is prone to taking naps at inopportune moments and is an incredibly heavy sleeper, snoring loudly to boot. When at rest, he often sleeps or meditates on his experiences, lighting incense and setting out his shawl as a rug. He was trained in the proper usage of a singing bowl, and sometimes uses one during meditation. He also has a fondness for chess, often practicing when he can. He used to challenge his father to it, but he was never able to beat him. His favorite food is peanuts.
