  1. Kris checked his account balance again, too nervous to believe it the first time around. The payments from last month’s batch of commissions had come in, and he finally had money of his very own. Sure, it probably wasn’t enough to start a new life, and sure, he could never let Toriel know he had finally started drawing porn professionally. Especially interracial, especially human/dragon. Especially-- no. Enough worrying. Kris resolved to just sit back and bask in his newfound financial independence. Toriel already knew he was hanging around Susie more often and a tiny, well-hidden part of his brain acknowledged that she’d probably found his amateur porn long ago, anyway. Things were fine and would keep being fine. After a while of staring at the magical number that told him he finally had money, Kris debated against modelling for more BHC sketches and decided to see if Susie was free. He’d been spending a bit too much time cooped up inside working on commissions lately.

  5. Susie looked down at Kris walking beside her and made sure no one could see her smile again. She didn’t know why, but he seemed a lot happier today, almost excited even, and she’d almost been getting worried about him after he started feeling more distant. Only almost, of course, she thought. Still, it was nice to hear from him and hang out by the lake.
  6.
  7. “Hey, freak. You remember what I think about quiet people, right? Spill the beans. What’s been up with you?” Susie nudged Kris, chuckling.
  8.
  9. Kris tried not to topple over from the sudden punch, rubbing his shoulder. “Well, not much, really, nothing interesting. Toriel being strict about grades and studying, you know how she is. Why, did you get worried?”
  10.
  11. “Hahahahaha, what, me worry? What kind of monster do you think I am? I just got pissed off. That’s all!” Susie’s bluster sounded hollow even to her, and she wondered why she was being like this. She wouldn’t have cared before they found the dark world, right?
  12.
  13. “Okay, okay. How’ve things been going for you, then? I know any other girl would be heartbroken without me around, but you’ve been perfectly fine, right?”
  14.
  15. “Just because I said I don’t like quiet people doesn’t give you an excuse to be a smartass. Delivery’s kind of wearing me down, people always want pizza but it feels like nobody wants to tip me for some reason. I’ve even been smiling, the boss said that was important for customer service.”
  16.
  17. “Yeah, that’s pretty rough. Still pays, right?”
  18.
  19. “Damn right it does. Cold hard cash, aaaallll mine too. Pretty soon I’ll feel like I have a real hoard. Of dead shoes, I mean, I keep having to spend way too much on replacements. Too much running around. But my cousin’s actually looking to sell his old bike, got a new Harley and figured he’d check if family wanted it for cheap. I figure it’ll be a good investment if I can borrow some money, get my own wheels.”
  20.
  21. Out of the corner of her eye she kept an eye on Kris- he’d been nodding along for most of it, but he froze when she mentioned the motorcycle.
  22.
  23. “Kris? What’s up, man?”
  24.
  25. “Nothing… well, uh, I’ve actually got some money saved up. I was just imagining what Asriel would think if I turned up at his college on a bike, it’d be so cool.”
  26.
  27. “Pff, you’d just mess it up, dork.”
  28.
  29. “Yeah? How much is it, then?”
  30.
  31. “He wants a thousand for it, I’ve only got 400 and change on me.”
  32.
  33. “...oh. I’ve got seven.” Kris’ shoulders slumped a bit, until an idea occurred. “...Hey.”
  34.
  35. “...Yeah? Spit it out,” said Susie. She was pretty sure she knew what Kris wanted, but she’d only just now realized how much she loved how excited Kris looked right now. It was the first time he’d gotten this pumped up and she felt like dragging it out.
  36.
  37. “We could pool our cash and get ourselves a bike! It’d be fucking sick, just imagine! Like, shit… you remember Evel Knievel, right?”
  38.
  39. “Travis Pastrana was still better, but go on.”
  40.
  41. “Fuck you, no he wasn’t, but dude, imagine everything we could do with this. We could… fuck, I bet we could jump the river if we drove out far enough that Undyne couldn’t see us!”
  42.
  43. “Toriel would kill you.”
  44.
  45. “...Yeah, you’re right.” Some of the excitement left Kris’ face as his shoulders started slumping again.
  46.
  47. “I’m joking, man, she wouldn’t… come on, Kris, don’t look like that, we can still make this work,” Susie felt herself starting to panic. “Look, my parents won’t care, I can keep it at my place, Toriel doesn’t have to know. It’ll be easy, you just have to come over.”
  48.
  49. “Yeah! That’d be great. You really mean it, Susie?”
  50.
  51. “Course I do. Just get me the money and I’ll get the bike. It’ll be your bike, even… but two things. One, I’ll borrow the bike for deliveries. Pretty regular shifts, we can plan around them.”
  52.
  53. “Yeah! No problem, that’s fine.”
  54.
  55. “Great. Two…” Susie leaned into Kris’ face. To his credit, he was too hyped to be afraid, and she just got a closer look of his big dumb goofy smile. “You owe me. One favor, anything I want.”
  56.
  57. “That’s fair… wait, anything? Haha, okay, it’s not like you’re going to ask for--”
  58.
  59. Susie was an expert. She’d had plenty of practice timing her smiles, and a slow toothy grin spread across her face at this exact moment. “ANYTHING.”
  60.
  61. “...You can’t psych me out like this. It’s a deal.”
  62.
  63. “Alright, I’ll have the bike next week.” They shook on it.
