- >Walking down the spacious halls of Canterlot Castle, you can't help but wonder exactly why you were chosen for this particular project.
- >Chosen by both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, no less.
- >After a bit of further thought on the matter, you decide that it is ultimately pointless to dwell on the “Why” of the project and instead focus on the “How”
- , which you have already planned in detail.
- >Continuing your stroll through the castle, you eventually stop before a nondescript door.
- >There were no Royal Guards or other such indicators as to tell what is being held in the room.
- >There wasn't even a lock on the door.
- >Composing yourself, you open the door and proceed to enter the room.
- >As soon as the the latch on the door makes sound, you feel eyes watching you, studying you, measuring your every movement with predator precision.
- >However, none of that bothers you, as there is nothing to fear.
- >Continuing a small ways into the room, you take your seat on one of the four cushioned stools at a low wooden table.
- >Seated with you at the table are the three individuals you have been charged with for...
- >Well, you suppose “rehab” is the best word for this project.
- >Those three individuals would be King Sombra, Queen Chrysalis, and Discord.
- >Equestria's three most dangerous and notorious individuals.
- >The rest of the room is furnished with a few bookshelves full of manuals and various curios.
- >There is also a refrigerator in one of the corners of the room.
- >Aside from the door you entered into the room with, there are three other doors that lead off into what you know to be personal rooms.
- >Sliding aside several stacks of manuals and various reams of paper, you clear a space for you to set your arms on the table.
- >With your fingers interlaced with each other, you glance between the three former villains to get a measure of each of them.
- >King Sombra holds himself regally, with a definite air of cool and calm detachment about him.
- >Each one of his actions has a certain fluid grace and calculated poise associated with it that repeatedly proclaims for all to see that he is simply better than you.
- >His eyes, on the other hand, are ever vigilant and hold the piercing and hungry gaze of a raptor that just spotted an unaware rodent in the middle of an open field.
- >Sombra also seems to be analyzing you just as hard, if not harder than you are analyzing him.
- >Queen Chrysalis tries to adopt the same cool and detached disposition as King Sombra, but you can pick her true feelings up by very subtle clues.
- >The way her lips twitch whenever there is sudden sound.
- >The way her ears near-constantly pivot and rotate.
- >The glint in her eyes you catch every so often.
- >The near imperceptible twitches of her muscles all over her body.
- >It's plain as day.
- >Chrysalis is absolutely furious.
- >Most likely she is still furious over her defeat and having been forced into this situation.
- >Discord, on the other hand...
- >He's got his feet kicked up on the table, is leaned back in his chair, and is currently staring at the ceiling.
- >His eyes are half lidded, his mouth hangs wide open, and there is a large stream of drool trailing from the corner of his mouth down the side of his face.
- >Yep, Discord is bored as hell.
- >As a courtesy to Discord, you clear your throat to get his attention, however you also clear your throat to assert your dominance in the conversation to come.
- >Discord snaps awake and nearly falls out of his chair, but recovers just in time to avoid falling.
- >Sombra and Chrysalis still have their gazes fixed upon you.
- >Wasting no time, you begin speaking.
- “Glad to see you three could make it. My name is Anonymous, and you three will be under my care until deemed otherwise.”
- >Chrysalis sneers at your statement.
- >”You know very well that we would make it here, human! Celestia would sooner die than to have her public reputation tarnished with her hare-brained scheme failing on the first day!”
- “You mean to tell me that Queen Chrysalis, THE Changeling Queen, couldn't have gotten away from the castle grounds if she really wanted to?”
- >Queen Chrysalis sharply intakes a breath before narrowing her eyes dangerously at you.
- >“Don't test what I can and cannot do, human. You may find out the hard way.”
- >You return her menacing gaze with a flat expression of your own.
- “Be that as it may, you made a conscious choice to be here. That goes for you two as well. That shows, on some level, a willingness to participate. And for that, I commend you.”
- >Sombra still stares at you with a cool, piercing gaze.
- >Discord gazes at you as if expecting you to suddenly grow a second head.
- >And you believe Chrysalis is currently trying to ignite you through sheer force of will.
- “Now, I assume you all know why you are here?”
- >Discord enthusiastically waves his lion paw in the air.
- >“Ooh, ooh! Pick me! Pick me!”
- >Oh boy, here we go.
- “Yes, Discord?”
- >“We're being brainwashed, of course!”
- >And so it begins.
- >Discord trying to get under your skin.
- >You adopt another flat expression and continue speaking.
- “No, Discord, that is not why we are here.”
- >“But of course we are. Why else would we be here?”
- “You three and myself are all here by royal decree for 'Friendship Training'. Essentially, it's rehabilitation. You three are to be trained, and I am to administer the training. You three should have already been informed of this.”
- >Discord lets out a short snort of laughter.
- >”Well of course I have already been informed. I also read between the lines, Anon. Here, I'll even help speed up the process and make your job easier.”
- >Discord snaps an eagle talon and a washtub and washboard pop into existence, along with a brain in his lion paw.
- >Discord then proceeds to wash the brain while wearing the cheesiest grin he can muster.
- >Still maintaining a flat expression, you clear your throat once more.
- “Are you quite finished, Discord?”
- >Discord pulls the brain out of the water and inspects it for a moment.
- >”Hmm... Not quite finished. My brain is still rather wrinkled. Let me set the wash to spin cycle.”
- >Discord casually tosses the brain into the washtub.
- >The washtub then begins to rapidly spin in place.
- >”Give it a few minutes, it should be done soon.”
- >All the while, Sombra and Chrysalis watched the exchange in silence; Sombra still maintaining his cool and Chrysalis looks to be on the verge of losing all of her cool.
- >She had been progressively becoming more irritable by the moment, but now she looks fit to snap.
- >A few seconds later, the dam breaks and Chrysalis shrieks out in fury.
- >“I can't stand a moment longer of your asinine bullshit, Discord! Hold your tongue, or it will be held for you!”
- >Not missing a beat, Discord puts on his best bedroom eyes.
- >“How's about my tongue and your tongue hold each other all night long?”
- >Chrysalis's eyes lock wide open in livid fury while a vein begins to pulsate on her forehead.
- >She bolts up to a standing position, knocking over the wooden table which sends all the manuals and papers flying.
- >Wings flared, Chrysalis' horn glows green with magic and takes aim at Discord.
- >Before she has a chance to cast any spells, Discord launches himself at Chrysalis and they're both on the ground, biting and kicking and clawing at anything either of the two can get at.
- >Sombra merely looks on with the same expression as before.
- >As much as you'd love to watch two villains duke it out, You have a time line to keep.
- >That, and Chrysalis knocked over your table.
- >You were hoping to inform the trio about this particular room's enchantments in a calm discussion, but it looks like a practical example will have to suffice.
- >Remaining seated, you clear your throat and calmly start speaking.
- “Discord, Chrysalis, would you both be so kind as to stop?”
- >As expected, they both ignore you.
- >Sombra gives you an odd look at you for saying that.
- >Oh well, you gave them a chance.
- >With more force in your voice this time, you continue.
- “I insist. STOP.”
- >Almost immediately, both Chrysalis and Discord's bodies go board stiff, completely immobilized.
- >Sombra actually looks mildly surprised at that.
- >With a motion of your hand, the table Chrysalis knocked over begins to return to its previous state, papers and manuals piling into stacks on their own.
- >With another motion of your hand, the stools that Discord and Chrysalis were sitting on righted themselves.
- “Now, both of you take a seat and we'll continue with the conversation like civilized beings.”
- >Both Chrysalis and Discord rise and walk almost mechanically and seat themselves at the table, both of them still stiff as boards.
- >You look over both Chrysalis and Discord to see the damages.
- >Aside from a few bite marks and small scratches, nothing looks remotely bad.
- >Sombra by this point is looking legitimately surprised by the turn of events.
- >You begin to speak as to answer Sombra's unspoken question.
- “I can't use magic. This room is actually pocket dimension made by Princess Luna for the sole purpose of this little... 'hare-brained scheme' as Chrysalis so aptly put it. The pocket dimension is connected to me, so that means I can control anything in this room. Up to, and including, you three. I had hoped to inform you three of this tidbit of news under calmer circumstances, but it seems that my hand was forced. I decided to be nice this time. Do not test my patience again or I won't be so lenient next time.”
- >With a snap of your fingers, you release Discord and Chrysalis from your mental compulsion.
- >They both slump down into their stools, Chrysalis still very mad and Discord looking very shaken.
- “If you three remain calm and reasonable, that will not have to happen again. Am I clear?”
- >Sombra gives you an unreadable look before speaking.
- >”...Noted.”
- >Chrysalis merely nods while needling you with a pointed glare.
- >Discord nods rather uncharacteristically dumbly.
- >He still looks very shaken.
- >As far as you can figure for now, the fact that you can essentially “turn him to stone” at any given moment must really get under his skin.
- >However, since that has little to do with what you need to get done today, you proceed with speaking again.
- “As you are all aware, the Princesses Celestia and Luna, for reasons unknown, have selected myself to see to your rehabilitation. I am to do whatever I see fit to see that this succeeds. The three of you are to stay in this room and the three adjoining domiciles until the rehabilitation is completed.”
- >Reaching out, you pull a manual off of the top of one of the stacks on the table.
- >The manual is a Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition Core Rules Book.
- “This will be my method. Each of you will grab a copy and roll up a character. I will be here to answer any and all questions you may have pertaining to the rules of this game. Any other questions will not be answered.”
- >Both Chrysalis and Sombra shoot you suspicious glares.
- >Discord seems to have calmed down enough to get his wits about him again, so he also shoots you a suspicious glance.
- “The starting level is ten. Pick your classes wisely, grab your dice, and hope you might have the dice god's sympathy. Because I am your Dungeon Master, and I have no sympathy.”
- >You are going to enjoy this way too much for your own good.
