  1.
  2. <Resilient_GM> IT IS THE 41ST MILLENNIUM...
  3. <Resilient_GM> You arrive at a checkpoint some three hours after leaving the engineers of the 616th Siege Regiment. Like before, the sentries manning the post wear gas-masks despite no apparent need for them.
  4. <Resilient_GM> Commissar Kraevan simply waves them aside, and you are allowed in.
  5. <Resilient_GM> The firebase is, perhaps, as large as the first HQ camp you established on Fallwin Island over a year ago when you first deployed. There are layers of entrenchments all protecting a massed artillery battery. One which, though manned, remains unused.
  6. <Resilient_GM> The vehicles come to a stop, and the Kraevan exits his vehicle, waving you over.
  7. * Kass_Yonova hops down from the truck cab and hurries over, weapon shouldered.
  8. * Victrus_Macharius jumps down from the back of the truck and makes his way over to the Commissar.
  9. <Resilient_GM> A rider atop a strange masked beast, of thick leathery (and hairless) skin stops a few meters away from your group.
  10. <Resilient_GM> Dismounting, he approaches Kraevan.
  11. * Solomun peaks his head out of the truck cautiously then jumps out.
  12. <Resilient_GM> The Commissar and the masked rider exchange a few words, before Kraevan addresses you.
  13. <Resilient_GM> "You are not the only Imperial remnants to have found their way to this camp. But know that Six-Sixteen is not one to care for the ways in which you are used to things. The medicae field-hospital will see to your wounded man, but without my saying to the contrary, he is unlikely to receive much care. If what you say is true, and he knows the location of an Astropath, you had best
  14. <Resilient_GM> come with me and explain his importance to the Colonel."
  15. <Kass_Yonova> Oh great, Kass thinks to himself. Last time he had to talk with a Colonel bad things happened for him. "Lead the way, sir."
  16. * Kass_Yonova directs Gil and the driver to get the wounded man in the back of the truck.
  17. <Resilient_GM> You soon realize that the firebase was set up around an old comms insatallation for the city's air traffic.
  18. <Resilient_GM> You are brought into its center, where earthworks end and rockcrete structures begin, and where riders in officer's uniforms are more frequent.
  19. <Resilient_GM> Here and there, you catch a glimpe of unmasked others which you recognize as uniformed from the few PDF companies that remain, some Cadians, and... Prithian?
  20. <Resilient_GM> Before you can ascertain whether you have found fellow Prithians, you are rushed into a command bunker.
  21. <Resilient_GM> "Six-Sixteen." Kraevan greets the man whose gaze doesn't leave the maps and plans on a wide elevated surface.
  22. <Resilient_GM> "Commissar Kraevan. I trust the demolishions were a success?" He asks, finally looking up.
  23. <Resilient_GM> Before he can ask, the Commissar points to your group. "They have joined us, Colonel. They bring valuable intelligence."
  24. <Resilient_GM> The Krieger doesn't say a word in response. He simply eyes you up and down.
  25. * Victrus_Macharius stands still, not wanting to make any move that might anger the man.
  26. <Resilient_GM> "Information that could bring us much-needed relief, Six-Sixteen."
  27. * Solomun keeps his distance and his mouth shut.
  28. <Kass_Yonova> The medic gives his sharpest salute to Colonel "Six-Sixteen." And as his hand falls to his side he waits a moment before speaking up. "Sir, my scout may know the rough location of an astropath still on planet. Problem is he is seriously wounded and unconscious. From what I understand such a man is very valuable to this war effort."
  29. <Kass_Yonova> He awaits the CO's response.
  30. <Resilient_GM> "Wounded." the Krieger repeats in complete deadpan.
  31. <Kass_Yonova> "And unconscious, sir. I could wake him up if I had the equipment and supplies."
  32. * von_Geyer looks into the distance while counting the beads on Quinn's tags
  33. <Resilient_GM> "Men who come to my camp, Corporal, are typically those who have run from their assinged fronts," the Colonel goes on. Commissar Kraevan shifts in body language, just as junior commissar comes in, holding a list.
  34. * Kass_Yonova visibly stffens but holds his ground. He's escaped summary execution once before.
  35. * von_Geyer suddenly stands up and salutes the commissar, still moving the beads in his left hand
  36. <Resilient_GM> "They have had some... difficulty, in that regard." Kraevan says, motioning for the junior commissar to step forward.
  37. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "Morning executions sir." Holding the paper out towards Kraevan
  38. * Victrus_Macharius feels the sweat starting to roll down his neck, his mind flashes back to the last time he and the original squad escaped execution.
  39. * von_Geyer hesitates, then returns to his seat after the commissar doesn't salute him back
  40. <Resilient_GM> He eyes the list for a moment. "A major? I knew the indiscipline ran deep in that pitiful unit. Well done, Daroshevik. But... don't leave just yet."
  41. <Resilient_GM> "Every unit must prove themselves." The Krieger goes on to say.
  42. <Resilient_GM> He brings up a poorly-drawn map to you, eyeing von Geyer.
  43. * Raolin_Daroshevik Flashes a quizzical look at Kraevan but salutes snappily
  44. <Resilient_GM> "We lost contact with the supply depot a week ago," he says, tapping the parchment.
  45. <von_Geyer> "May I see it, sir?"
  46. <Resilient_GM> He slides it over.
  47. * von_Geyer takes the map with his right hand and holds it up
  48. <Resilient_GM> "We were in the process of transferring its stored promethium and heavy munitions supplies to the firebase."
  49. <Resilient_GM> You realze this is some 250 km away.
  50. <Resilient_GM> "Its armaments are critical to the continued efforts of Imperial forces."
  51. <von_Geyer> "What sort of materiel? Man-portable weapons, artillery...?"
  52. <Resilient_GM> A simple nod from the Colonel confirms the importance of the cache.
  53. <von_Geyer> "Critical indeed. Are we receiving additional support?"
  54. <Resilient_GM> "Major Cengage of the Planetary Defense was in charge of the operation. Establish contact, and report back. You will be assigned a long-range vox for this purpose. Secure the facility, and ensure the presence of our assets."
  55. * von_Geyer gives Kass a glance at the mention of PDF forces. It suggests both worry and disdain.
  56. <Resilient_GM> Kraevan hands the Colonel a small pocket book, holding a page open.
  57. <von_Geyer> "We will... we will require a replacement technician for the vox, Colonel."
  58. * Kass_Yonova shrugs to the LT. A very small shrug.
  59. <Resilient_GM> "As it happens, we have one such specialist which I would be eager to rid myself of."
  60. * von_Geyer clicks the tag quicker
  61. <von_Geyer> "I see. May I see his particulars?"
  62. <Resilient_GM> "Now, before you leave, understand that this is your penance for the display of cowardice on the city outskirts."
  63. <Resilient_GM> "For this reason, Commissar Daroshevik's supervision will guide you, Lieutenant."
  64. * Kass_Yonova cringes at the mention of von Geyer's lapse of courage.
  65. <Resilient_GM> Kraevan nods to the junior commissar.
  66. <von_Geyer> "Yes. I fully accept this, and make no excuse for my actions."
  67. * von_Geyer glances at the paperwork
  68. <von_Geyer> "A PDF... looting... woman."
  69. <Resilient_GM> "Prove yourself, Lieutenant. Dismissed."
  70. * von_Geyer looks back up at the Colonel "Your thoroughness is commendable."
  71. * von_Geyer salutes and moves to exit the tent
  72. * Solomun exits the tent following after Von Geyer.
  73. * Raolin_Daroshevik Curtly nods to the men arrayed in front of him. "I'm confident under the watchful eye of the emperor we can avoid any future...issues"
  74. * Victrus_Macharius salutes to the Colonel and the follows Von Geyer out.
  75. <Resilient_GM> "Be thorough, Daroshevik," Kraevan says in dismissal.
  76. <von_Geyer> "Commissar. I understand you may not be familiar with our regiment. I shall explain to you how to best use our forces and avoid morale issues once we are en-route."
  77. <Solomun> "Well, Lieutenant. All and all that went better than I expected."
  78. <von_Geyer> "Though I may stumble, I shall not fall, except to die the martyr's death."
  79. * von_Geyer makes the sign of the Aquilla
  80. <Raolin_Daroshevik> ./me Saluting Kraevan he moves to the exit following the men. "I am sure we will have ample opportunity Lieutenant"
  81. * Kass_Yonova salutes to the CO before following in the tail end of the group. He keeps his opinions to himself.
  82. <von_Geyer> "Commissar. If you will excuse me, I must see if I can find another straggler from my regiment to bring alongside us."
  83. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "I shall accompany you Lieutenant, you can regale me of your regiment along the way"
  84. <Resilient_GM> Outside, an aide de camp awaits on foot, holding one of the bestial steeds of Krieg in place by the reins.
  85. <von_Geyer> "Certainly."
  86. <Resilient_GM> "Commissar," he salutes.
  87. * von_Geyer examines the Commissar for a moment, trying to ascertain his origins and character as best he can
  88. * Raolin_Daroshevik Steps forward accepting the reigns from the aide and swiftly mounting the animal
  89. <Kass_Yonova> The squad's medic keeps pace with the LT. He has no orders and knows nothing of this firebase, safer to stay near the officer.
  90. * von_Geyer turns to the Krieger. "Is 26418 nearby? I have a question for him."
  91. * Raolin_Daroshevik returning the salute to the aide accompanied with a curt nod of dismissal
  92. * Solomun tires to keep up with the group with his stubby legs.
  93. * von_Geyer returns to the Commissar with a man and a woman
  94. <von_Geyer> "Commissar, the troops assigned to us are as follow:"
  95. * von_Geyer reads from a piece of paper
  96. <von_Geyer> "Vitoria - surname unknown. A PDF deserter caught looting a fallen Imperial's vox equipment. She lives only by the mercy of His Majesty's officers, and her ability to operate the materiel she looted."
  97. <von_Geyer> "Avis - surname unknown. A... dissenter. The paperwork is incomplete. I shall watch them closely, and take personal responsibility for their actions. I pray the Emperor will see fit to guide them into proper soldiers."
  98. * von_Geyer looks sternly at the soldiers, waiting for them to salute, watching them for any signs of fear or resentment.
  99. <Resilient_GM> The Vox-tech salutes. The trooper, on the other hand, hesitates.
  100. <Resilient_GM> "This how they gettin' rid of me?"
  101. * Raolin_Daroshevik smiles thinly. "We are all in this together now Lieutenant. While your vigilance is welcome..all people are...judged..individually" His gaze turning steely he stares down at the new additions
  102. <von_Geyer> "Does a vulture have better discipline than you, soldier? Salute your superior!"
  103. <Resilient_GM> A half-measured salute follows, a grin forming on his face.
  104. * Kass_Yonova groans to himself in a low tone.
  105. * von_Geyer watches to see what the Commissar will do
  106. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "I care little for formalities. So long as you stand your ground and do your duty we will have no issues"
  107. * Solomun lets out a sigh of relief. Killing things is what he is good at.
  108. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "Lieutenant. Take the men to see the Quartermaster."
  109. <Resilient_GM> Vitoria chuckles.
  110. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "I beleive he has equipment for you"
  111. * von_Geyer salutes and marches off, gesturing for Rourke to follow.
  112. <Resilient_GM> The Quartermaster's pen isn't far. You know it by the... large figure standing guard.
  113. * Solomun lights a Lho-stick.
  114. * von_Geyer stops to examine the massive Ogryn.
  115. <Resilient_GM> "An Ogryn?" Gillam asks
  116. <Kass_Yonova> "Emperor no, not again."
  117. <von_Geyer> "Your squad had an Ogryn, Corporal?"
  118. <Resilient_GM> As you close in you realize there's some sort of commotion.
  119. * Solomun Lho-stick falls out of mouth at the thought of the massive man.
  120. <Kass_Yonova> "Yes...briefly. His breath could rust the tracks of a chimera."
  121. <Resilient_GM> "Damned Kriegers, without those munitions my men will not survive!"
  122. <Resilient_GM> The retort is simple, and brutal.
  123. * Hodor throws random trooper out of quartermaster's pen
  124. <Solomun> "Wait, wait... an Ogryn?"
  125. <Hodor> "Bad man go."
  126. * Victrus_Macharius looks over at the Ogryn, almost studying him.
  127. * von_Geyer steps forward to examine the thrown man, then continues to walk to the tent
  128. <Hodor> "wat u want?"
  129. <Solomun> "Oh... Great."
  130. <von_Geyer> "Quartermaster has equi- stuff for us."
  131. <Resilient_GM> The quartermaster comes out.
  132. <Kass_Yonova> "Well, at least it looks and acts about the same."
  133. <Resilient_GM> "Prithians? Your things aren't in here."
  134. <von_Geyer> "The Colonel said otherwise."
  135. <Hodor> "Stuff guy, new people"
  136. <Resilient_GM> He points behind you, to a small transport pulling up.
  137. * Hodor looks at Raolins hat
  138. <Resilient_GM> He walks up to it as the hatch opens and starts looking through its contents.
  139. <Resilient_GM> "This... this... that..." he beings to sort.
  140. <Resilient_GM> A pile begins to form.
  141. <von_Geyer> "Troopers, please sort through that; I must still see the Quartermaster."
  142. * Hodor hands pile over clumsily
  143. <Resilient_GM> Six demolition charges, corpse-starch rations, and boxes of ammunition... bolter ammunition.
  144. <Resilient_GM> He points to the autocannon.
  145. * von_Geyer goes to find the QM
  146. <Resilient_GM> "Hand that for this," he steps aside, revealing a heavy bolter.
  147. * Solomun picks up the fallen lho-stick and wipes it before relighting and smoking it.
  148. * Kass_Yonova helps sort through the pile.
  149. * Hodor looks at raolin with grin
  150. <Hodor> "Hodor like hat"
  151. <Hodor> "I want hat"
  152. <Hodor> "Give hat?"
  153. <von_Geyer> "Hat is for officers. You are trooper."
  154. <Hodor> "I like hat"
  155. <von_Geyer> "Maybe one day you can become a Bone 'Ead and get a hat."
  156. <Resilient_GM> "Enough of that, beast. Back to the depot."
  157. <Hodor> "I follow hat"
  158. <Resilient_GM> "To the depot, we have a shipment to prepare."
  159. <von_Geyer> "What is your regiment, Auxilia?"
  160. <Resilient_GM> The quartermaster's impatience grows.
  161. <Hodor> "What regi....regi...regi?"
  162. <von_Geyer> "Pri-thi-a? Do you know that name? Prithia."
  163. * Victrus_Macharius looks at heavy bolter, then back at his autocannon, he sighs, and goes to grab his autocannon and switches it out for the Heavy bolter along with the ammo.
  164. <Solomun> "Regiment, my huge friend?"
  165. <Resilient_GM> "Lieutenant, do not confuse the beast."
  166. <von_Geyer> "When you joined Guard, did your boss have a hat like mine, or a mask like the Quartermaster's?"
  167. <Kass_Yonova> "Yep, definitely talk the same."
  168. <von_Geyer> "It is my duty to recover my regimental assets, Quartermaster. I shall ensure that the 616th is repaid in full for its assistance once contact with High Command is re-established."
  169. * von_Geyer turns back to the Ogryn
  170. <Hodor> "No mask"
  171. <Hodor> "Nice hat"
  172. <von_Geyer> "But now, we need to recover all that is rightfully ours, as ordained by the Emperor."
  173. <von_Geyer> "Nice hat. Like mine, but with more shinies?"
  174. <Hodor> "Yes"
  175. <Resilient_GM> "You can't be serious..." Gillam moans
  176. <Hodor> "Before boss had Shiny Hat"
  177. <von_Geyer> "Was his name Schonfeld? Did he have a big number like this one?"
  178. <Hodor> "I follow shiny"
  179. <Kass_Yonova> "I had a bad feeling about this." He shakes his head before sighing.
  180. * von_Geyer points at the 79 on his uniform
  181. <Hodor> "yes?"
  182. <von_Geyer> "Then this matter seems clear, Quartermaster."
  183. <Resilient_GM> Kraevan approaches you seemingly out of nowhere.
  184. <von_Geyer> "Come with us, Trooper. I am the new boss."
  185. * Victrus_Macharius begins to take the autocannon off of the Gun Carriage with the help of Ibram so that they can put the heavy bolter on.
  186. <Hodor> "Follow new Shiny?"
  187. * von_Geyer salutes the Commissar
  188. <Resilient_GM> "Daroshevik. Why aren't these men out on the field?"
  189. <Resilient_GM> He looks at the gun-carriage.
  190. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "They are retrieving mission essential equipment sir" Saluting crisply
  191. <Hodor> "I follow new Shiny!!"
  192. <Resilient_GM> "Quartermaster, allow them the use of a horse to draw their weapon. They are delayed as it is."
  193. * Kass_Yonova follows their example and salutes the commissar.
  194. <Resilient_GM> Approaching his junior commissar now, he leans in "A rider arrived. The PDF unit was destroyed or routed."
  195. <Resilient_GM> "We cannot afford any more delays."
  196. * Hodor get's equipment
  197. <Hodor> "Hodor get stuff"
  198. <Hodor> "where want?"
  199. * Solomun goes to Victrus and tries to help him on his task. Nappen is nowhere to be seen.
  200. * Raolin_Daroshevik Quietly whistles in surprise. "Understood sir. Any idea by what"
  201. <Victrus_Macharius> With in a few mins with the additional help of Solomun, the Autocannon it taken off and the Heavy Bolter is placed on and secured to the Gun Carriage. "Thanks for the help Solomun."
  202. <von_Geyer> "Bring to truck."
  203. <Resilient_GM> "Unknown. A trail of their corpses is all the rider reported. Get these men to the field. The journey is long, and we cannot afford to lose the depot."
  204. <Hodor> "Stuff truck"
  205. * Hodor places equipment in truck
  206. * von_Geyer turns back to Daroshevik and salutes
  207. <Solomun> "No problem." *puffs smoke out of his mouth*
  208. <von_Geyer> "Commissar. The men are ready to move out."
  209. <Resilient_GM> Kraevan clicks his heels on the sides of his own war horse, stopping in front of von Geyer.
  210. * Raolin_Daroshevik Nods and salutes. "By the Emperor it will be done sir"
  211. <Resilient_GM> "Your vehicle has been seized, Lieutenant. It has been deemed of heretical origin, and must be sanctified by the Colonel's techpriests."
  212. <von_Geyer> "Understood. Have we been provided with alternative, Imperial transport?"
  213. <Kass_Yonova> "Guess we're walking," he whispers to Gillam.
  214. <Resilient_GM> Without a word further, he departs giving his junior a salute.
  215. <von_Geyer> "It is no matter. We are infantry."
  216. * von_Geyer turns to the troops and bellows out in his best parade ground voice: "Forward, march!"
  217. <Resilient_GM> "I know the depot," Avis suddenly sounds off.
  218. <Kass_Yonova> The medic gets his weapon and equipment in order as they ready themselves to move out.
  219. <von_Geyer> "Then you had best tell us everything you know, trooper."
  220. * Raolin_Daroshevik Urges the beast forward keeping pace with the infantry
  221. * Solomun bushes off his uniform, finishes his lho-stick, and readies his equipment and cane.
  222. <Hodor> "we go?"
  223. <Resilient_GM> "The bulk of the remaining PDF was protecting it. If it has fallen, we may be among the last..." he says, looking at the vox-tech.
  224. <Solomun> "I think I'll be limping along instead of marching, ha."
  225. <Hodor> "You want ride?"
  226. <Solomun> "I'll be fine. Ho-Dor..? Hodor is your name, right?"
  227. <Resilient_GM> "Anyone hurting themselves trying to ride that monster won't get any attention from me," Gilliam says out loud.
  228. <Hodor> "Hodor name"
  229. <Solomun> "Thank you for their offer, Hodor. But I appreciate the offer."
  230. * Victrus_Macharius saluts and moves out, his lasgun at the ready as the heavy bolter is now being towed by one of the beast.
  231. <Kass_Yonova> "I doubt any of us except the Commissar would dare ride the beast."
  232. <von_Geyer> "And what of its defenses and systems?"
  233. <von_Geyer> "Access points, nearby terrain... anything pertinent."
  234. <Resilient_GM> "When I left, we were setting up good, Lieutenant. But that was months ago."
  235. <Resilient_GM> "Single gate, well-defended."
  236. <Resilient_GM> The way there takes you through thick woodlands, with roads that at times becoming overgrown and invisible to anyone unfamiliar with the terrain. The commissar, and your PDF comrades, however, know this path well. Despite difficulties, you are used to the woodlands. For a few hours, it almost bring you back to the dense forests of Prithia - peaceful, and full of life.
  237. <von_Geyer> "The map I was given was crude. What sort of terrain should we expect?"
  238. <Resilient_GM> "A small clearance in the woods, Lieutenant."
  239. <Kass_Yonova> "This brings me back." He breathes in that fresh woodland air.
  240. * von_Geyer frowns. "Well, at least it will be easy for us to make a stealthy approach."
  241. * von_Geyer ensures the troopers are familiar with the fact that Solomun is a psyker during the marches forward, but otherwise says little except for the daily and nightly prayers
  242. <von_Geyer> "Contact!"
  243. * Victrus_Macharius see it as well.
  244. * von_Geyer draws his hellpistol and chainsword and fires a burst into the trees, hitting one of the blurry figures
  245. * von_Geyer revs up the carefully maintained and engraved Chainsword bearing the crest of a black wolf. [High Gothic] "The quarry approaches! The hunt begins!"
  246. * Raolin_Daroshevik Swiftly draws his Inferno Pistol firing off a quick shot at one of the creatures, the shot going wide
  247. <Resilient_GM> One of the beasts rushes the Ogryn, slashing at his torso with its claws!
  248. <Resilient_GM> Immediately after, from the brush, another of the large cats lunges for Victrus.
  249. * Victrus_Macharius takes the blow but get back up, he draws his chainsword, he reves it and tries to swing it but misses, as he has had not as much close combat time in awhile.
  250. * von_Geyer blocks the pouncing beast with the flat of his chainsword, then kicks it away
  251. * Solomun casts his powers and accidently causes one of the creatures to enter a deep rage. The creatures turns against its allies.
  252. <von_Geyer> "Aviz, Rourke, back up our gunner! Everyone, lay down covering fire! Vulture, with me, into the fray!"
  253. <Hodor> "HODOR SMASH!"
  254. * von_Geyer revs up his chainsword and crashes into the nearest creature, shouting with pent-up rage and frustration as his sword bites into its flank
  255. <von_Geyer> "Smash it! SMASH IT!"
  256. * Raolin_Daroshevik Draws his laspistol firing both weapons into the nearest beast not in melee with his comrades killing it immediately
  257. * Victrus_Macharius try again to swing his Chainsword at the cat like creature but misses again. "Fuck."
  258. * Hodor smashes fluffy 3
  259. <Resilient_GM> Another of the beasts with glowing orange eyes turns abruptly, and charges the creature on Hodor. It bites at its neck, killing its fellow fiend.
  260. <Resilient_GM> At that moment, the remaining, unposessed creature, turns to flee.
  261. * Kass_Yonova thumbs the switch on his triplex to burst and aims his rifle at the beast fighting Victrus. He squeezes the trigger and is rewarded with a solid hit to the things head.
  262. * Victrus_Macharius reacts as the creature runs away, he quickly draws his lasgun and opens fire, only hitting with one shot and doing minor damage.
  263. * Solomun commands the beast under his control to chase after it's fleeing friend.
  264. <Resilient_GM> The beast, confused by its pack-member's deadly intent continues to run deep into the woods, until they are both out of sight.
  265. <Victrus_Macharius> With the beast gone, Victurs drops to his knees, his hand over his chest, the pain starting to slowly set in.
  266. * von_Geyer trains his pistol at the beasts as they flee, then scans the treeline
  267. <von_Geyer> "Felines flee once they realize their prey can put up a fight. Remember this."
  268. <Hodor> "Kitty bite me"
  269. * Solomun sits downs and lets out an annoyed sigh.
  270. * von_Geyer revs his chainsword once to spray the blood away, then puts his weapons away and kneels down to cut off the fallen creature's tail with his field knife
  271. * Victrus_Macharius grits his teeth, "Fucking cats," he says as he tries to recover.
  272. <von_Geyer> "Is this your first encounter with beasts such as these, Commissar?"
  273. <von_Geyer> "Is this your first encounter with beasts such as these, Commissar?"
  274. <Solomun> "I should have broken those cat beasts and used them as battle pets."
  275. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "I've encountered them only a handful of times. Usually too scared to attack the larger groups I was with in the past. This is the first time they've shown such aggression..most likely due to our smaller numbers"
  276. <Resilient_GM> "Pets? I don't think so," Avis says with a cringe.
  277. * Kass_Yonova breaks out the Narthecium and gets to work on healing his comrades. First the more hearty Victrus, nasty gashes in that one. Once done with him he works on the Ogryn...he's never done that before. Guy takes it a like a champ, but whines like a child every time he cleans each slash in the giant's flesh.
  278. <Kass_Yonova> "If you don't hold still, Hodor, I can't heal you."
  279. <Hodor> "Kitty Scratch hurt!!"
  280. * Victrus_Macharius thanks Kass and with in a few mins is back on he feet, but with a slight pain in his chest.
  281. <Resilient_GM> Old Jack, the Ogryn handler oversees your work, scrutinizing every detail.
  282. <von_Geyer> "I have faced them before, but never in such numbers."
  283. * Kass_Yonova quirks an eyebrow at Old Jack once he finishes tying off the gauze on the Ogryn.
  284. <Resilient_GM> The group of Imperial Guardsmen moves on from the vicious encounter, spending nights under cautious watch rotations.
  285. <Resilient_GM> Eventually, one morning, Avis speaks up.
  286. <Resilient_GM> "We are near," he points to an old, towering tree - a landmark used by the PDF.
  287. <von_Geyer> "Somebody pass me some magnoculars."
  288. * Victrus_Macharius pulls out his magnoculars and hands them to Geyer.
  289. * von_Geyer takes the magnoculars and confidently strides forward to climb the tree
  290. * von_Geyer stands over the canopy and pivots around, looking for the base in the darkness
  291. <von_Geyer> "Damned Enlisted-grade magnoculars... no glare protection.
  292. <von_Geyer> "
  293. <Hodor> "Smash time?"
  294. * von_Geyer gets down from the tree and hands the magnoculars back to Victrus
  295. <von_Geyer> "They have sentry towers with an autocannon each. We will attack tonight - the longer we wait, the more damage they will do to the facility."
  296. <von_Geyer> "Do any of you think you could make adequate grappling hooks and ropes?"
  297. <von_Geyer> "Macharius. I want you to climb that tree and examine their captured autocannons. Find out if they could be salvaged."
  298. <von_Geyer> "Hodor, boost him into tree."
  299. * Victrus_Macharius makes his way to the tree and has Hodor boost him up into the tree,
  300. * Victrus_Macharius takes out his magnoculars and uses them to check to see if the autocannons are salvageable.
  301. <von_Geyer> "Commissar. Corporal. Any suggestions?"
  302. <Raolin_Daroshevik> "The Pysker has the ability to turn friend against foe. We should utilize this against the greenskins"
  303. * Victrus_Macharius finishes looking and then makes his way down the tree.
  304. * Kass_Yonova takes a seat on a nearby rock and leans on his weapon, pondering.
  305. <Victrus_Macharius> Once down from the tree he then looks to Geyer, "Sir, from what I can see, the Autocannons look in tacked, it also seems as if they are unloaded and are just been pushed off to the side."
  306. <von_Geyer> "They're... of course they are."
  307. <von_Geyer> "This simplifies matters."
  308. <von_Geyer> "Do you have any technical skills? Could you repair them once we take the facility?"
  309. <Victrus_Macharius> "I could, at least with any weapons I've worked with."
  310. <von_Geyer> "Excellent. This will be easier than expected."
  311. <von_Geyer> "Savant-Militant. What is the range of your possession powers?"
  312. <Resilient_GM> You can hear the cackling of gretchins.
  313. <von_Geyer> "We will create a diversion."
  314. <von_Geyer> "Are there any nearby plants we could use to create green dyes?"
  315. <Kass_Yonova> "The only thing that comes to mind, LT is a battle they teach back at Prithia. Involved a Major Dassim. You might know of it? Anyways, short version is we draw out the enemy so they fight on our terms." He stands up as the sounds of Gretchin are heard.
  316. <von_Geyer> "We will paint the Ogryn green and disguise him as a Nob."
  317. <von_Geyer> "I will affix my laud hailer to his helmet and use him to draw the Orks out into an ambush."
  318. <Victrus_Macharius> "Well that is probably the best idea so far."
  319. <von_Geyer> "Everyone, start digging punji pits and any other traps you can make."
  320. * Victrus_Macharius nodes and gets to work.
  321. * von_Geyer directs Aviz to slather Hodor in the green dyes
  322. <Hodor> "what you want me say?"
  323. <Solomun> "Brave plan."
  324. <von_Geyer> "Nothing. Don't say a word. Say nothing."
  325. <von_Geyer> "I will talk," he holds out his laud hailer, "Through this."
  326. <Kass_Yonova> "An interesting plan...and yes I know what those are." He sighs. "I'm not doing all the digging."
  327. <Hodor> "Hodor"
  328. <von_Geyer> "Hodor will assist once his disguise is completed."
  329. <von_Geyer> "Find hiding spots to ambush them."
  330. <von_Geyer> "Corporal, you're in charge of finding the best ambush spot."
  331. <von_Geyer> "Use your best judgement."
  332. * Raolin_Daroshevik dismounts the Krieg Death Horse shucking his commissarial overcoat, hanging off of the saddle. Retrieving his trench tools he begins to help dig punji pits
  333. * Hodor digs holes
  334. <von_Geyer> "Commissar, once they move to engage us you will charge them from the flank on your horse."
  335. * Solomun tries to help dig the hole but gives up after being hit with dirt thrown at him him by Hodor.
  336. * Kass_Yonova takes out his entrenching tool, leaning his weapon against a tree, as he starts to dig around, gettting the traps ready. Once done he directs his comrades to the best available ambush positions.
  337. <Resilient_GM> The ambush location is set. If Schoenfeld were here, he would be proud - it is a textbook ambush location with traps and sufficient cover for all. All that remains now, is for the enemy to walk into the killzone.
  338. <von_Geyer> "Hodor. When I tell you to, you will stand outside the treeline and wave at the fort. You will hear an Orky voice coming from your head. Do not worry, and do NOT hit the thing I put on your head. Once you stop hearing the voice on your head, turn around and run to where our squad is hiding, and wait for further instructions. Do not say a word. Do y
  339. <von_Geyer> ou understand?"
  340. * Raolin_Daroshevik helps finish up the traps, stowing his trench tools and retrieving his coat, donning it swiftly. Once garbed once again in his coat he remounts his Krieg Death Horse readying his weapons for the coming conflict
  341. <Hodor> "That many word"
  342. <von_Geyer> "Ok."
  343. <von_Geyer> "Stand in front of trees."
  344. <von_Geyer> "Then, wait for voice on head to stop talking."
  345. <von_Geyer> "Then, come back here."
  346. <Hodor> "Okay"
  347. <Solomun> "You got this Hodor."
  348. * Victrus_Macharius with the help of Ibram, they set up the Heavy bolter to the side of the area, ready to use it during the ambush.
  349. <Resilient_GM> "Attempting stealth with this dumb beast will be the death of us..." Gilliam moans.
  350. <von_Geyer> "We are going to disguise your handler as a slave. If you forget, he will remind you."
  351. * Solomun hides between a fallen tree with Hodor in line of sight.
  352. * von_Geyer has the handler dirtied up and given a makeshift leash
  353. <Resilient_GM> With a plan set, an Ogryn painted green, a terrified abhuman handler, and an ambush location ready, the Imperial forces ready themselves to take the weapons cache from the greenskin occupants. The Orks rotate their sentries, and settle in.
  354. <von_Geyer> "Although the Orks have some base cunning, they are no match for the furious intellect of Mankind. When the Orks come, we shall be the anvil; the Commissar and the Ogryn, the hammer."
  355. <von_Geyer> "Here shall we pay our penance. Here shall we taste victory - hard-fought, and rightly earned."
