Race Tips for Get Yourself Speedrunning SMB3

(for those of us who've never run the game or haven't played it in a long time):

1. Don't even get the warp whistles. It's very easy to accidentally use them if you hold B after exiting a level and pressing A after that. You'd have to reset if you do it in the race.

2. Runners of this game make sure they don't get 3 of the same end-of-level card to save time. Scrubs like us will probably need the extra lives instead. You can get stars by hitting the left side of the block at full speed.

3. P-speed is a lot more useful when you know where to jump (and more importantly, where to land). It's probably better to take it carefully than repeatedly launch yourself into the abyss.

4. Feel free to disregard any of the above tips and do whatever you feel like, obviously. :)
