  1. I've seen various people emphasize that RIMAs are safer than irreversibles; that does seem to be true, but the margin of that seems to be exaggerated. It mostly applies to tyramine (the food compound), i.e., RIMAs have a very high tyramine tolerance threshold[ 1 ]…but almost all foods have very low tyramine, so there's practically no difference (more info on this below).

  3. I've seen some vague information that says that irreversibles are less forgiving with all potentially contraindicated compounds—and it's probably true—but to quote MAOI advocate Ken Gillman, "As Paracelsus stated, ‘the dose makes the poison’ and that certainly applies to amphetamine."[ 2 ]

  8. "Very few individuals will ingest more than 25 mg of tyramine, even when consuming high-tyramine foods. For patients on MAOIs, ingestion of amounts under 50 mg are unlikely to cause significant blood pressure effects. Even in the early 1960s, when food tyramine was much higher and MAOI users received no dietary guidance, only 14 deaths were reported among an estimated 1.5 million patients who took MAOIs."

  13. "if the conclusion is anything other than tyramine and all mess that goes along with it is anything other than Hocus Pocus old science then it's meaningless collectively. I have been [ tranylcypromine ] for like 30 years and long ago I forgot entirely about all that tyramine and preserved sausages and stuff like that, and yet here I am, happy and healthy"
