  → if there is one thing that sums up baek ara's personality, it's that she's the designated "mum friend" of the group. people often call her mum becuase her habit of fussing over younger people, and babying everyone around her. she is a very protective person, and wants to go into early childhood teaching because she loves working with kids. she acts a lot like an actual mother, and probably fusses over her friends just as much as their actual mother's do, if not more. ara is insanely kind, and is always smiling, trying to release positive endorphins. she once read somewhere that seeing other people smile actually makes you happier, and ever since has made it her goal to smile at everyone she meets, almost never frowning. ara is also an extremely patient person, and there are very few people who have seen her completely lose her shit. she isn't one to start yelling or cursing (in fact, she spends more time scolding other's for their use of vulgar language, if she's completely honest), but she does tend to get into small arguments with people over little things. she can be a very fussy person over the smallest of things, like whether or not her food has been cooked in a specific way, or who has cooked her food ("ara, it's just noodles. just eat it, please." "i told you, i only like noodles when grandma makes them"). she is a very positive person, and can find the bright side of anything. if you ever need someone to make you feel better, ara's the person to go to. just smashed the screen to your phone and it's stopped working? don't worry, ara has a list of ten places that do cheap repairs. broken up with your partner after three years? ara knows the best movies to sit and cry over to make you feel better. she is probably a person that you would expect to be extremely innocent, but that's just not the case with ara. she knows just about every single sexual innuendo, and just because she chooses never to voice anything, doesn't mean that sexual jokes fly straight over her head. she's not stupid, but she likes to consider herself mature and classy enough not to result to sexual innuendoes. she has a very good memory – something she needs, given all of her hard courses that require her to be able to remember dates and names, which comes in handing when it comes to revising, and is probably the only reason why she does so well in her classes with the minimal studying she has time for. she is a very social and outgoing person, and joined every club that the school had to offer, upon first attending. she ended up dropping most of the clubs, but she's still taking a lot of clubs that take up most of her free time, leaving her with little time to study. not only this, but ara's worst enemy is procrastination, and unfortunately, she can be very good at it, putting off her homework to do other things, even though she only has limited time to complete all of her assignments anyway. however, ara is very dedicated, and despite her track record of procrastination, she always turns in her homework on time, even if it means staying up until two the night before it is due. yet somehow she's still passing all of her classes. she's even nice enough to give her answers to the people who haven't finished their homework on time (cough CROSSFIRE cough). she has an extremely messed up sleeping pattern, which comes from trying to cram school, extracurricular activities, procrastination and her homework into the few hours in a day. she is the type of person who could probably pull three all-nighters in a row, functioning on nothing but a strong caffeine fix, and then sleep for two days straight without waking up. she is a very persuasive person, and always get's what she wants. she's had years of practice in debating, what with being a member of the debate team, and can quite easily convince people to give her anything she wants. this comes in useful when she goes shopping. if you want to get discounts when shopping, ara is the person to take with you, because she has a way for getting great bargains on expensive clothes and shoes. ara has expensive taste, and since her parents aren't exactly rich enough to afford designer brands all the time, she has to result to bargaining to get what she wants. despite this, she is also the sort of person who could start trends with cheap knock-off brands too. but over all, ara is just a dedicated teenage girl who wants to do well in school, and is trying to make the best of her life, and will do whatever it takes to get what she wants.

➝ BACKGROUND:
  → ara was born the middle child to baek joonho and his wife, hyejeong. ara was born in incheon, south korea, where she spent most of her child. growing up as the middle child, ara had always had expectations hung over her head from her parents, usually comparing her to her older sister ahyoung. ara has always been determined to prove herself to her family. with this mentality, she put 110% into everything she did, even if it was just folding napkins at the dinner table and making sure that every single one of them lined up. her effort shows especially in all of her schoolwork, were she consistently scores high, maybe not getting top scores all the time, but still doing extremely well. she's always felt the inner need to live up to the expectations set by her older sister, who was accepted into law school after graduating, and ara knows that her parents have high expectations of her to go into medical school, despite the fact that she just wants to teach young children. shortly after she first began high school, her father was promoted, and his business transferred him to ilsan, where the family packed up and moved to start new lives. here, ara was accepted into one of the most prestigious academies they had to offer, which made her extremely proud of her achievements, as she was positively glowing about it for a week after her acceptance was confirmed. still feeling the need to prove herself and try everything that was offered, ara was quick to sign up for every single club the school offered, before learning first hand that there was noway she'd be able to juggle all of it, and cutting down on most of her clubs. now, she is an active member of clubs and sporting teams, all while juggling her position on the student council and her homework, and she is probably one of the most busy girls on campus.

  → they're neighbours, who's parents are best friends. ara's and his mother used to go to school together, and were best friends, before they went their separate ways after graduating, before coincidentally reunited after ara's family moved from incheon to ilsan. naturally, since their mother's were friends, they were keen for ara and namjoon to be friends too, and often made excuses for the pair to be around each other, with ara's mother dragging her daughter to the kims' house every week for dinner. however, with their different personality traits, it was either they'd get along swimmingly, or they'd bump heads twenty-four seven – and unfortunately for those around them, it is the latter. ara thinks he's a bit of a stuck up smart arse, as unlike her, he refuses to share his answer, and doesn't like to tutor those who need help. the pair seemed to get off on the wrong foot, and end up in heated debates all the time, as a result of both of them being on the debate team (and their classmates trying to make sure they're on the same team, just so they don't start making personal jabs at each other) and tend to argue over every singly little thing they can find, and are always trying to one up the other. namjoon get's a high mark on one of his classes, ara stays up studying for hours determined to do the same. ara buys a designer piece of clothing that get's attention from people at school, and namjoon goes out an buys a new pair of expensive shoes to show off. however, half of the school is secretly convinced that they're going to end up together regardless, and that all of their arguing is a coverup for their sexual tension. (they may or may not be right, and chances are that those who bet on the pair dating will probably win large amounts of money).

➝ FIRST IMPRESSIONS [HER]:
  → "wow he's much more stuck up that his mother, are they really related?"
   ◦ ara's mother had told her all about him and his mother before they'd first met when they went over for dinner. however, when ara met him, she came to the conclusion that he was nothing like how her mother had described him.

➝ FIRST IMPRESSIONS [HIM]:
  → "oh look, it's another unintelligent person my mother wants me to befriend – oh shit she's smart."
   ◦ legitimately thought she wasn't smart enough to attend the same school as him and was extremely surprised and skeptical when he found out that she was actually pretty smart

➝ HOW SHE ACTS AROUND HIM:
  → she acts completely different around him than she does around anyone else. around everyone else, she's polite and happy and always smiling, but her personality takes a bit of a turn when she's around him, because he has a way of pissing her off (probably because she judges him based off her first impression of him). she tends to be very passive aggressive towards him, and will retaliate any jabs that he throws at her. she absolutely hates loosing to him at anything, and gets really competitive in the classes that they share, even staying up to ungodly hours of the morning to study, just in an attempt to score on par with him in his classes (because as much as she hates to admit it, he's a lot smarter than her). however, despite the fact that she acts like she hates him, she misses his presence when he's not around, and would not be able to go about her daily life without him there (mostly because he's her chaperon, and she'd have to take the bus if he didn't come to pick her up. she tends to argue with him about every little thing, even now that they've become closer as the story progresses, and she honestly has begun to act like his girlfriend half the time, leaving the entire student body to come to the conclusion that there's something going on between them.

➝ HOW HE ACTS AROUND HER:
  → he honestly enjoys arguing with her an winding her up, because he finds it hilarious (and he thinks she looks adorable when she starts huffing, even though he won't admit it). however, half the time he acts like her boyfriend even without meaning to, from the way he's always driving her around, despite all the petty arguments that they get into, and because she is the only person that he's ever offered help for (but only because she hates asking for help and he does it to annoy her). they probably one of the most secretly shipped couples on the campus. he doesn't really act very flirty towards her, unless he's doing it to annoy or distract her, and he honestly finds it hilarious how her attitude towards him is a lot different compared to her attitude towards other people. he always buys her food without complaining (probably because she'll complain if he doesn't), and he always get's flustered whenever his mother starts giving him suggestive winks whenever ara comes around to their house on one of her spontaneous visits to steal whatever food he has in her fridge.
