Dio kills Obi-Wan

"Irksome 'old man'... You 'dare' interfere? Then I'll show you! I'll show you the 'Force' I command!"

Dio's wrist flicked. Debris and rubble skittered across the ground. An opposite Force to contend against the Master's. The Master's body, already half-embedded in the wall, pressed deeper into it, and a pained grunt escaped him.

JoJo wanted to cry out, to help his Master, to do anything, but even now, even as the two Forces contended against one another, the voice sounded in JoJo's head:

Trust the Force, JoJo! Do what you must!

He could not waver. Dio's overwhelming Force twisted and ripped up the tiles from the ground, shattered the mirrored ceiling, crushed a chandelier and sent it twinkling into the floor. Small sharp stones slipped past the Master's defenses and shot into his body; blood ran down. Yet, for all his power, Dio still could not move, not while Master Kenobi entrapped him within the Force. And that gave JoJo a window! He dove past Dio, rolled, and skidded to a halt on one knee beside the shattered remains of Foo Fighters. The Master—no, the Force—said he had to collect these pieces. He held his hands over them and manipulated the Force like one might a broom to sweep the shards into a pile. If he gathered and thawed them all, might Foo still reform? Was that the Master's scheme?

"I am one hundred 'times' the 'Jedi' you ever were, 'Master' Kenobi!" Dio wrenched one of his arms free from Kenobi's hold and shoved it forward, doubling his strength. The wall of the throne room twisted and bent like a sheet of tin, liquid ripples waved across its surface. And in the middle of it all was Master Kenobi...!

"Master!" said JoJo.

Somehow, although he groaned in pain, although blood ran down his body—somehow, Master Kenobi smiled. "Strike me down..."

"Hm?" said Dio.

"...and I shall become more powerful..."

"What's this? Why look, JoJo! In his 'senility', the old man has 'lost his mind'... Watch, JoJo, watch your beloved 'Master' in his final moments!"

"...than you can possibly imagine."

"DIO, DON'T DO IT!" JoJo howled. "DIOOO!"

Dio clapped his hands.

The entire western wall of the throne room folded at the middle and snapped around Master Kenobi. The ceiling groaned treacherously, but the rest of the room somehow managed to retain its basic form even as Dio pressed his hands together as though kneading dough and so kneaded the wall into a crumpled mass of material.

A mass with the Master at the center.

"NO!" JoJo could only watch. "NO!"

"Face it, JoJo! Your 'Master' is nothing more than 'vile jelly' in the center of this 'wall'! Watch, and I'll show you what he looks like now!"

Dio pried his hands apart and the wadded wall reopened. It twisted and reshaped back into a straight line and settled exactly into the place it had voided, albeit strewn with cracks and wrinkles. From it fluttered a ruined, blood-strewn rag, a rag JoJo instantly recognized: the Master's robes. The hilt of a lightsaber clattered to the ground.

But JoJo didn't cry out. He didn't howl in rage, or swear to destroy Dio.

Because there was nothing inside the robe. There was no corpse.

Dio tilted his head. "Hm? But how! He could not possibly have 'escaped'... There was no way!" The moment of confusion passed and he slipped his tongue over his fangs devilishly. "Do you know about the process of 'sublimation', JoJo? It's the process whereby a 'solid' is changed directly into a 'gas', skipping the 'liquid' phase! It requires an extraordinary amount of 'pressure'... How about I demonstrate on you, next?"
