>"Come on cutie! Why dont you let me take you home and have a little fun?"
>The audacious little mare slaps you on the ass
>You are about to punt the little football until you hear you marefriend yell back
>"W-why dont you just b-buck off Short Hop? Anon is taken!"
>Short Hop casts a dismissive glance at Derpy and laughs
>"He's only taken because he doesn't realize that he doesnt't need to settle for damaged goods."
>Your knuckles crack as your fists clench
"Shut your fagg-"
>You are cut off as Derpy launches from her chair and lands in front of Short Hop, wings unfurled and tuft out
>"ANON IS MINE! I WONT LET YOU TAKE HIM FROM ME!"
>You reel back at the volume of Derpy's shout
>The mare in front of her recoils like she had been slapped
>She almosts seems to give up until she glances back at the table she came from
>The mares at the table shout out encouragement for the little shit
>Emboldened by her comrades she puffs her chest out stares down Derpy
>"Bring it."
>She squeeks it out and all hell breaks loose
>Derpy launches herself at Short Hop using her wings to propel her with more force
>Short Hop barely had time to rear up when they collide
>A ball of biting kicking and shouting pony rolling around on the floor
>When you finally overcome your shock you rush forward to help Derpy
>As you reach out to grab her your head explodes in pain
>When it fades slightly you realize you are on the ground covered in booze
>Reaching up you feel blood seeping through your scalp and what feels like glass shards
>Its only when a mare yells "SHE JUST GLASSED A COLT!" do you put two and two together
>In what seems like slow motion [spoiler]though it could just be the head injury[/spoiler] half the bar throws themselves at the three mares that were with Short Hop
>The havoc from the brawl was almost as debilitating as your wound


>Somehow through the foggy daze in your mind you managed to find a thought
>DERPY!
>Your eyes widen in panic as you look around for your marefriend
>You finally spot her on the very edge of the brawl
>Your eyes catch one of hers as she rears back and bucks Short Hop into the crowd
>She turns back and sees that her opponent is caught in the maelstrom of mares and quickly turns back to you
>She flashes you a short triumphant smile that causes her split lip to bleed more
>Then she sees you are injured and in one of those rare moments both her eyes lock onto you
>She rushes over to you almost as fast as she slammed into the other mare
>"ANON! ANON ARE YOU ALRIGHT!?"
>Wrapping your arms around her you scan her for injuries
>Seeing nothing more than a bleeding lip and swelling eye you relax a little bit
"Yeah I think Im alright. Probably gonna need to go to the hospital though."
>Her eyes somehow get wider and before you know it you are being half pulled half flown across town to the hospital

>Two hours later
>You are laying in a hospital bed
>They pulled the glass out of your scalp and bandaged it up
>Not bad enough for stitches and it shouldn't scar but they have to keep you over night for observation
>Derpy managed to make it out with only minor injuries but she is gonna have a black eye for a while
>She has been silent since she found out that you were going to be OK
>She is sitting in the chair next to your bed and has been staring at two different tiles on the floor for about twenty minutes
"Derpy whats wrong?"
>She shakes her head
>"Its nothing Anon."
>You can tell by the sound of her voice something is definitely wrong
"Don't lie to me bubblebut."
>Your nickname for her gets her attention
>She sighs and looks up at you
>"Its my fault you got hurt. I wasn't mare enough to protect you."
"Derpy it wasn't your fault at all. It was those crazy mares."
>She shakes her head
>"If I hadn't started the fight you wouldn't have been hurt."


>You get off the bed and pick up your mare
>"Anon you're hurt! You shouldn't be up!"
"Shush!"
>You boop her which makes her scrunch her face up
>She winces as it causes her to move part of her bruised face
"Sorry."
>Gently you carry her over to the bed and lay back down with her on your stomach
>You stroke her mane and she leans into your hand
"Derpy I know its not your fault because if you hadn't started that fight I would have."
>"But!"
"Shush. The only butt I care about is yours."
>She sighs again and lays her head down on your chest
>You both lay there in silence while you gently stroke her mane
>When a thought pops in your head you have to ask it
>"Hey Bubblebut what caused you to do that anyways? This isnt the first mare to be a little cunt around us."
>She mumbles something into your chest
"What was that?"
>She lifts her head up and you can see the tears in her eyes
>"Because I am already a failure as a pony. I didnt want to be a failure as a mare too."
>She turns her head away
>"Though now I am just an all around failure."
>You pull her against you again
>She squeaks as you pull her in for a quick kiss
"Derpy you are as far from failure as a mare can get. You are a great marefriend, an amazing mailmare, and you have one of the meanest donkey kicks I have ever seen."
>The last part gets a chuckle out of her
"Im serious! Did you see that mare fly? For a second I thought you had kicked her so hard a pair of wings had popped out of her."
>She wipes her face with her hoof and smiles up at you
>You lean down and kiss her again
"Derpy every day you make me more proud to be your coltfriend. Today I am just a little more proud than most days."
