Background: Hwang Minji was born in Goyang, South Korea, the older of two daughters. Her parents run a restaurant, and her father often sang and played the piano to entertain the customers. One day, Minji wanted to try it out. She and her dad sang together, and it was a hit. Soon, her dad decided to pass over the restaurant entertainment to her, and she sang and played piano every day for quite some time. She overheard one of the clients of the restaurant telling her father to send her to a Kpop audition. At the time, Minji only knew a bit about Kpop. Soon, her dad talked to her about trying out for a company. Minji decided to take her time and learn more about Kpop before trying out for a company. She soon fell in love with it. Six months after the restaurant client first recommended that she try out to Minji's father, Minji was cast by her company after a private audition.
