  1. Second Day: The Love of Family
  2.
  3. Raimie Connors' eyes lit up as she picked up one of the boxes under the tree. The wrapping paper had a cute design, and was topped with a beautiful silver colored bow. On the box's nametag was her name, written in her sister's messy handwriting.
  4. “Is this one going to be for me, Ari?”
  5. Her sister Arianne walked in just as Raimie asked the question, “Yeah, but you can't open it until midni—Oh,” the woman briefly supporting herself against the doorframe.
  6. “My niece and nephew kicking a storm again?” She asked. Despite how she had tried to deny she was pregnant early on (her sudden want of a peanut butter jelly and buffalo sauce sandwich was not the cravings talking, damnit) at seven months, there was no more denying it.
  7. “I still can't believe we're having twins,” Arianne muttered, “You proved to be more potent than I thought, Dwight.”
  8. Said male let out a noise and although the two sisters couldn't see his face, what with him lounging on the couch, they knew he was probably beet red.
  9. “I'm sorry but who was the one who said I didn't need to wrap it?”
  10. Now it was his wife's turn to blush, “N-Not in front of Raimie!”
  11. “Oh, you can bring up my 'potency' but I can't mention how you begged me to—Ah!”
  12. Dwight flailed about as Arianne began to pull his ear, “Shut it unless you want to sleep on the couch for the next few weeks.”
  13. “Ok! Ok! I giiive!” He tapped out on the couch frame. Once content, Ari leaned forward slightly and kissed his abused ear.
  14. “Good. Love you cinnabun~.”
  15. “Muu...love you too sugerplum.”
  16. Raimie couldn't help but giggle at the two. Despite the couple having moments like this, it was more akin to playful bullying than actual malice or abuse. They never put actual strength behind their bops and pinches, only just tugging or tapping enough to be felt but not enough to actually hurt one another. The two knew they would never hurt each other. They knew they could trust each other.
  17. “..uuu.”
  18. Raimie felt she didn't deserve them. She felt she didn't deserve to enjoy her first actual Christmas with such loving people.
  19. They could never trust her as much as they trust each other because of the things she did back in the hospital. They could never love her as much as they did each other or even their fellow survivors because of the things she said back in the hospital. They could never accept her as one of their own.
  20. “Raimie...?”
  21. The girl didn't know when she started crying, the only thing she knew is that she couldn't stop. The couple said nothing, instead the two moved over to her, knelt down beside her and held her between them.
  22. “I-I don't deserve this! I don't deserve any of this!” She sobbed, the memories of the attempts on their life replaying in her mind, “I'm a monster! A horrid bloodthristy monster!”
  23. “Shh, shh, it's ok Raimie.” Arianne cooed, “You're not to blame. You had no choice...”
  24. “B-But I'm just like mom...”
  25. “You're nothing like your mother,” Dwight intervened, “You actually feel something. You know guilt, sadness, grief...”
  26. The couple held her tighter before Arianne said, “So let us teach you to be happy. To love. To actually live, Raimie.”
  27. The young girl's cries slowly turned into quiet sobs, Arianne and Dwight never moving from their spot until Raimie was spent. Raimie knew she would never be able to get over the things her mother had done to her and had made her do, but so long as she had her sister's family, she felt she could strive for something better. Even something as simple as enjoying her first Christmas.
