- >Lupa sighs as she stares at the ceiling.
- >Just another night where she wasn’t gonna sleep.
- >She picks up her sketchbook and gets out of bed, she’ll draw on the couch.
- >Lupa slides on her near-threadbare bunny slippers and heads down stairs.
- >She is greeted downstairs by the blue glow of the television.
- >Oh, yeah, Aunt Lori and Loan are in town.
- >Lupa shrugs, she’ll just grab a glass of water and head back up she guesses.
- >”Hey, Lupa.” Loan says over her shoulder. “Can’t sleep?”
- >”Uh, yeah. I’m just gonna grab a glass of water and go back up if you’re down here.” Lupa says as she heads for the kitchen.
- >”Do mind me, do you want to play something? I’m replaying Nier, but w-we could play something multiplayer.” Loan suggests.
- >”Thanks for the offer. Does the guest bed suck?” Lupa says.
- >”Oh, no, it’s fine. It’s just loud on that side of the house.” Loan mutters.
- >”Yeah, Mom and Lincoln both snore really loudly. That’s why I sleep on this side.” Lupa says as she turns on the kitchen light.
- >”Y-Yeah, my mom snores too. It’s awful, they just snore all night long.” Loan cracks a nervous smile as Lupa pours a glass
- >Lupa takes her glass and sits on the couch, she gets herself nestled in and starts sketching.
- >”Are you sure you don’t want to play?” Loan offers.
- >”I’m sure. I have a vampire to draw.” Lupa says into her sketchbook.
- >”Neat.” Loan says as she watches a cutscene. “What do you want to do with it?”
- >”I dunno.” Lupa says as she erases an errant line. “Uncle Lincoln asks me that too.”
- >”He thinks you want to be an artist like him.” Loan says.
- >’Kiané!’
- >”Yeah. I don’t know. It could be cool, but it seems stressful.” Lupa says as she sets her pencil aside.
- >”His Savvy stuff is the best in the last decade, but don’t worry about it.” She shrugs. “You’re young. You don’t want to find that you don’t enjoy anything anymore.”
- >”Did that happen to you, Loan?”
- >”I used to really like chess.” Loan says as she powers up a spell.
- >”What happened?” Lupa says, setting her sketchbook aside.
- >”I started playing competitively. It was fun; go with mom, Lincoln would come out too sometimes, see your friends, and spend a day playing the game you like. We’d get McDonald’s afterwards too. Eventually, my friends stopped going and kids started getting a lot meaner. I didn’t like it anymore.”
- >”You quit because people were mean to you?” Lupa askes.
- >”I quit because I didn’t know why I was doing it anymore. My friends weren’t there. We didn’t go to McDonald’s anymore. The kids were mean. And- and my mom kept pushing me because it was supposed to help with college. I played another year and that was it, no more, locked myself in my room and screamed and cried all day. It’s kind of stupid.” Loan smiles sadly.
- >”No. I think I get it now.” Lupa says.
- >”If I had just played with my friends and just for fun, I think I would still be playing. It was fun, I-“
- >”Do you want to play something, Loan?” Lupa interjects.
- >”Yeah. I’d like that.” Loan says, wiping away a tear. “Ever play Nidhogg?”
