- “Oh, sorry,” Clark said, trying to mop up the drips with his wet sleeve.
- “You got an appointment to see Mr. White?” the security guard asked.
- For the briefest of seconds, Clark considered lying, but he decided
- against it. He was a big fan of truth. And justice. And a better tomorrow.
- “No,” he admitted. “But I really need to see him. If he’s free. It won’t take
- long.”
- The security guard looked at Clark’s eager, honest face, his steamed-up
- glasses, his wet business suit…and softened a little, feeling sorry for the
- poor chump. “Top floor,” he said. “But you didn’t hear it from me, okay?
- Elevators are over there.” He pointed, then went back to his computer.
- “Thanks,” Clark said, meaning it. “Thanks very much.”
