<Anthony_Hartman> The day after his return from his four day stint inside his Eva, Tony is now sitting on the couch in the room he shares with James, trying to figure out how to convince the Commander to authorize another attempt to extract Nina from Unit 02.

06* Anthony_Hartman sighs, "Oh. Didn't see you there."

<Anthony_Hartman> "Did you ever know Captain Sheperd?"
06* James_Arroyo puts his pen down and rotates around in his chair. "Yeah. I did."
<James_Arroyo> "He was the old Operations Director, before Major Smith."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Yeah. Well..."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Um..."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Jane...told you about what she is, right?"
<James_Arroyo> Judging by his expression, James doesn't have too many good memories of Captain Sheppard.
<James_Arroyo> "Yes," James says, not entirely sure how much he can say aloud, even in his own room.
<Anthony_Hartman> "Do you know the circumstances, though?"
<James_Arroyo> "Um. Some. She explained the basics."
<Anthony_Hartman> "What Captain Shepard was trying to do?"

<James_Arroyo> "Oh." Its all he can really get out. He begins to process the information.
<James_Arroyo> "Shouldn't we try to get her out then?" James asks.
<Anthony_Hartman> "Yeah, I promised her I'd try to get her back out. Which is why I need to know more about Captain Shepard."
<Anthony_Hartman> "And really anyone else who was involved in that project."
<James_Arroyo> "Um. Well, I was really young at the time, so I don't remember. But I think The Commander and Dr. Garcia were involved, at least."

<Anthony_Hartman> "I was afraid of that."
<Anthony_Hartman> "It's strange, though."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Why am I going so far out of my way to help someone I barely know?"
06* James_Arroyo smiles a little. "Because you're a good person," his smile widens.
06* Anthony_Hartman looks uncomfortable at this.
<Anthony_Hartman> "Growing up, I had to learn that trying to help people just gets you hurt. Sometimes physically. It's just...I don't even know what's going on anymore."
<James_Arroyo> James' smile softens a little, "Yeah, I know. I had it pretty easy, but I know what you mean. But if its important, that's okay."
<James_Arroyo> "Its worth getting hurt sometimes."

01<@macrophage> Nina is quiet.  She'll just hold onto his leg, arms wrapped around, body pressed tight.  She looks up at him, like she's about to cry.
06* Anthony_Hartman sits down with her, "It's alright. I'm fine."

01<@macrophage> "No, it isn't!  I...I...", she stops herself from saying anything else, and looks away from him darkly.
06* Anthony_Hartman hugs her, "It's alright. Everything's going to be alright."
01<@macrophage> Her arms redouble their tight, possessive grasp upon him in return, and...his reassurances seem to calm her a little.
<Anthony_Hartman> "See? I'm fine."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Besides, I'm not going to leave. I promised that I was gonna get you out."
01<@macrophage> "And....and if they can't get me out?"
<Anthony_Hartman> "I don't claim to know anything about the Evas or what they're doing out there right now, because I don't. But they're going to get you out. If I can keep coming here and leaving, then you can get out too."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Maybe it's...maybe it's mental."
<Anthony_Hartman> "Maybe if you try to imagine yourself out, it'll help."
01<@macrophage> "Anthony....I...it's so hard to remember anything...I just...want you.  I want you to be here with me if I have to die in here."

01<@macrophage> The recovery procedure is a short one.  Anthony is provided with a very precarious rope ladder to climb up onto the platform.  Drs Garcia and Thompson are both present.  "Get up here.  There's nothing more you can do in there for now."
06* Anthony_Hartman finally notices the scene around him. He climbs up the ladder. "W-what happened here?"
01<@macrophage> "Your evangelion moved on its own.  We had to sacrifice all extremities before we could even eject you.", Thompson speaks.  Garcia looks at Anthony, appraising him....."Did anything happen?"
<Anthony_Hartman> "She...she was having a seizure or something at the end. She might still be hurt, you have to get her out!"
<Anthony_Hartman> "I promised! I told her she wasn't going to die in there!"
01<@macrophage> The adults fix Anthony with the kind of look that he might imagine, his father had to see when he was told very unfortunate news.
<Anthony_Hartman> "Wha...What'd you do the first time! Do that again! You know what went wrong didn't you? You can fix it!"
01<@macrophage> "Anthony.  Whatever's in there is no longer a living person.  We're sorry.  But it's just something that we have to do.", Thompson doesn't know how to put this any more clearly than he is.  He reaches out to put a hand on Anthony's shoulder.
06* Anthony_Hartman throws his hand off, "She is a living person! She's still alive in there! There's got to be some way to get her out! You guys made that thing, you should know how that happened and how to fix it!"
01<@macrophage> "It's not that simple, Anthony!  Look, what's in there...is what people would call a ghost.  A recording.  Nothing more.  We can't bring back the dead.", Garcia, seemingly frustrated by this, walks off without a word.
<Anthony_Hartman> "You can't touch a ghost! She's real!"
<Anthony_Hartman> "Don't walk away! Put me back in there then! I'll get her out myself!"
06* Anthony_Hartman turns back and heads back down the ladder.
