- >About a week has pass since Tsubaki and I became a couple.
- >It was also in this time frame I learned that her birthday was today.
- >Decided to take her out to a nice lunch followed by a movie she wanted to see.
- >Mid-afternoon July means it's hot as balls in the city as we leave the air conditioned apartment.
- >Checking my new phone it's a 20 minute walk to the restaurant, less still to the theater.
- >On the way there look up at the city skyline.
- >End up almost bumping into someone in the process.
- >"Anon, are you alright? You've been staring up at the sky for awhile."
- >"Kinda just miss the countryside is all. Still not used to the city."
- >"That's adorable Anon." Tsubaki said giving my hand a squeeze.
- >Rest of the walk goes normal.
- >Ended up talking with Tsubaki trying to figure out how mamono like lamia or eel use the bathroom or drive.
- >The restaurant was one of those 'old renovated factory' deal.
- >The Olive-green sign hanging over the main entrance read "The Vineyard" in gold lettering.
- >Inside was crowded with waitresses busing between full tables.
- >Our greeter was a young weresheep girl with white wool standing out against her dark skin.
- >"Welcome to the Vineyard, I'm Annie. Table for two I take it?" She said with a dreamlike smile on her face.
- >Lost in thought this entire time looking at all the couples and people.
- >Regain some focus just to answer.
- >"Uh yeah...we should have a reservation, check under Anon."
- >Gave full attention to Annie as she poked through the various touch screens.
- >"Yep you're here, if you'd follow me." She said scooping up two menus.
- >Take in more of the surrounding as Annie leads us to our table.
- >Interior looks like the inside of a winery.
- >Wine racks lined the upper wall while a few casks sat embedded below them.
- >Get brought to a booth seat by Annie with me on one side and Tsubaki opposite.
- >Annie left not long after leaving us the menus.
- >"You decided what you're getting Tsubaki?" I asked from behind my own menu.
- >"Never really had Italian, usually to impress clientele we'd go to traditional Japanese."
- >"Well first time for everything I suppose."
- >As we're talking hear hooves on the hard wood floor.
- >See a Saytros standing next to our table.
- >"Hmmm hello dearies, I'm Leena pleased ta meet you~. You decided what you wanna start with?"
- >Sat there staring out our waitress wondering what was wrong with her.
- >Only after looking at her freckled face could I see the slight flush.
- >Our waitress was buzzed as all hell.
- >Glance over at Tsubaki and back at the waitress.
- >"Uhh miss are you ok?"
- >Leena seems to come back from wherever she was a moment ago and gives me this dreamlike smile.
- >"Not only are you cute but a gentleman. I'm fine, our newest investor helped cover our advertising costs and we've been on a good upswing."
- >Watched as Leena's face went from that smile, to a frown for a brief moment before going back to a smile.
- >"Almost forgot why I was here. What can I get you dearies?"
- >"I'll have the risotto and some water if you could. What about you Anon?"
- >"Uh.. I'll take the..."
- >Realize I've forgotten what I wanted to get.
- >Reread the menu as I try to remember my choice.
- >"Right, I'll have a lemon tea and shrimp scampi I guess."
- >Tsubaki and I hand Leena the menus and watch her walk off.
- >Somehow amazed that she isn't tripping over herself.
- >"Is she gonna be ok?"
- >"Had to work with a Saytros once, they aren't Oni but they aren't lightweights either."
- >"Which means?"
- >"She'll be fine."
- >Figure Tsubaki knows whats she's talking about so drop it.
- >Drinks came not that long after Leena left with our meal coming later.
- >During our meal have a thought and excuse myself.
- >Tell Tsubaki I'm heading to the bathroom.
- >Before leaving made sure I knew where Leena was.
- >Find her waiting another table.
- >"Excuse me miss?"
- >"Hold on...What is it dearie?"
- >"My girlfriend's birthday is today. think you guys can do something special for her?"
- >Leena gave me a smile that would make a Cheshire jealous.
- >"I have just the idea."
- >"Thanks."
- >Smiling all the way back to our table.
- >Sitting down do my best to put on a face to hide the fact something is going to happen.
- >"Did something happen Anon?"
- >"Wha makes you say that?"
- >"You're smiling a bit."
- >"Oh just thought of something funny I once saw."
- >About to reinforce my white lie when lunch arrives.
- >Feel a wave of relief as the subject wages changes away from my hidden surprise and onto the food.
- >Just as we finish the surprise begins.
- >Leena's walking towards us with a small cake with a few of the staff behind her.
- >They've started to sing Happy Birthday as they approach the table.
- >Most of the restaurant has started to join in.
- >Tsubaki is looking at me like a deer caught in the headlights while I'm smiling at her and singing along with them.
- >"...Happy birthday to youuu~."
- >Tsubaki's beet red as we finish.
- >"Happy birthday Tsubaki, come on and blow out the candles!"
- >Tsubaki is still looking at me wide eyed.
- >As she goes to blow out the candles, intercept her and give her a quick kiss.
- >Crowd erupts into a loud 'woooo" as they see this.
- >"Make a wish Tsu."
- >Crowd cheers and claps as Tsubaki blows out the candles before everything returns to normal.
- >Still smiling as we divided the cake between the two of us.
- >"So you like your surprise Tsu?"
- >No response from Tsubaki.
- >She's trying to eat her cake, though her drooped ears and swishing tail are a give away.
- >Get up and sit down next to her, giving her a backrub.
- >"Come on Tsu it wasn't so bad was it?"
- >"I'm not so good with big crowds." She said meekly.
- >"Didn't you have to conduct large business meetings?"
- >"No it was usually one on one or a small group. Large crowds make me nervous."
- >Feel a bit bad at realizing I made her panic.
- >"Sorry Tsu."
- >"It's ok Anon, it was sweet of you and you didn't know."
- >"I feel like a bit of a jerk now though."
- >"Want to make it up to me then?"
- >"Of course."
- >Tsubaki's expression turned to one of mischievousness
- >"Give me your piece of cake."
- >Laugh and hand it over to her.
- >As Tsubaki finishes my piece Leena came back with the bill.
- >We pay it and head out towards our next destination.
