  1. Sudliss, the shining capital of Nembus, is known as the rest of the nation is for its great talents with magic. Near the entrance to this city, there is a small shop, with a single large chimney, constantly churning out multicolored smoke. The building looks rather old, though some patches of the walls are made of new brick, as if they were replaced recently. Hanging above the door is a sign cobbled together out of some rusty gears, depicting a bubbling green flask. Inside the shop, it is rather cluttered, a desk piled high with papers, teetering precariously and threatening to topple over. Further in the shop, you can see several rows of bookshelves, all centred around a single giant desk. Pacing on the desktop is a grizzled old gnome, inspecting the work of his young pupil, who is sitting hunched with a rather large book in one hand, and stirring a miniature cauldron in the other. Suddenly, alarm paints the face of the old alchemy master as he watches his student reach for a nearby beaker and start pouring it into the bubbling pot. "Din, you fool!" The elder one says, suddenly sprinting towards the younger. He takes hold of the cauldron in one hand, lobbing it against the far wall. Din looks puzzled, wondering what he did wrong, when a large shockwave reverberates around the shop, knocking jars and various pieces of contraptions off of their shelves, shattering against the floor. Both look as the dust clears, seeing a new hole against the side wall of the shop, and observe the now irate owner of the next door scroll shop come in through the new walkway between the two shops, yelling about inconsiderate neighbors. Both alchemists look at the man, then Master Wedfaer looks to young Din, glaring at him. Din glares back, and this continues for a few minutes, before both gnomes suddenly crack up, laughing and hooting. "Looks like that's the new record for the biggest one," Din says. "No, the second largest." "Ah, right, I forgot that you used to have your shop up the street. I think that the ducks enjoy the pond, though, so everyone came out happy."
  2. Din Kaerlun was born in a gnomish community known as Baltak, located in Nembus. He was always fascinated by the arts of alchemy and technology, as well as magic. His parents quickly realized his passion, and got him all the teaching they could get. At age 30, he was apprenticed to the master alchemist of Nembus the old gnome Wedfaer. He studied and learned much quickly, not only about alchemy, but also about mechanics, traps, and magic. He studied with Wedfaer for a period of 16 years, in which time he became quite knowledgeable. He wanted to be a master artisan, and help the gnomish community. After 16 years, he returned home, and found a terrible sight. His parents had been murdered in the night, from the looks of the corpses, probably only a few days before he got home. There was no explanation as to why such an event had occurred. Din started to fear for his own life. Was there anyone who was coming for him? Who cared enough to murder his parents? The young gnome's mind was playing tricks on him. He started to become a little paranoid, but at the same time, angry and determined. He would find this mysterious killer, whoever they may be, and give them a little taste of his talent.
  3. So, bidding goodbye to the city of Baltak, then making a detour to bid Wedfaer farewell, Din left on his way. He eventually took up the position of a man for hire, taking advantage of his talents to make money. He was recently hired by the elves of Brinthas to search for a man named Troad.
