  17. Qi
  18.
  19. A one time use Medallion that upon evocation launches a powerful inscribed technique,
  20. [Tarragon Melanoid Jolt], which would fire off a small semitransparent disembodied black dragon head radiating destructive black lighting at an opponent.
  21.
  22. Capabilities:
  23.
  24. [Movement technique] Boetius isn't talented in movement techniques, so he hasn't made any breakthroughs regarding this. He just crudely channels his qi to his feet, forcing them to move faster than they would be able to otherwise. It isn't worthy of being called a technique.
  25.
  26. [Threefold Bulwark Pelt] A 3 step technique that mimics the resilient hair coats of powerful magical beasts. The Ground hair (Undercoat), the guard hair, and the awn hair. Currently, he is only able to manifest the first stage of the technique, the ground hair. This consists of taking a great manifold of thin individual qi strands and entangling them on the surface layer of his skin. As it's only the first stage of the technique, it's only vaguely better than just using unmodified qi to guard oneself.
  27.
  28.
  29. One method that Boetius is still experimenting with is purposefully infusing impurities into his cultivation base. In particular, the remnant spiritual intents of slayed beasts. Invoking the intent calls upon that beast's instincts and powers. Boetius becomes able to use some of the innate abilities of that specific beast. This has worked very well for him, but to his frustration he can only store up to three, else it effects his cultivation base negatively. He can't figure out how to invoke more than just one at a time as well. Perhaps when he has more insights into the dao will he be able to overcome these obstacles.
  30.
  31.
  32. [Intent of the Black Ironwood Sloth]
  33.
  34. The [Black Ironwood Sloth] is a lofty beast that spends its time in the highest trees, unhurriedly eating despite the many predators that would love to consume it. Unfortunately, its hide is simply too tough to bite through for the average predator. Although these beasts enjoy incredibly high defensive power, they're rather clumsy and sluggish as a consequence. It isn't rare to see a [Black Ironwood Sloth] meet its demise not because of a predator, but because it lost its footing and fell from an extremely high perch.
  35.
  36. In invoking this Intent, the flow of qi and blood will immediately slow down, becoming hard and sturdy. Used in conjunction with his defensive technique, the qi hairs coalesce and lose their previous transparency, appearing with the Sloth's trademark black and silver colors.
  37.
  38.
  39.
  40. [Intent of the Milk Willow Gazelle]
  41.
  42. The [Milk Willow Gazelle] is a beautiful herbivore creature. Though it will fight just as ruthlessly as the next beast over magical plants, it strengths rely in its speed. This beast uses its high agility and speed to quickly outpace any problem it might have. Some say its actually a goat.
  43.
  44. In invoking this Intent, Boetius' qi and blood will thin and run like water rapids. A phantom image of the Gazelle's legs will appear coinciding with his own. Boetius' lack of movement skill talent gets a huge bolster, increasing his movement speed and jumping power.
  45.
  46.
  47. [Intent of the Crimson-Born Masked Brute]
  48.
  49. The [Crimson-Born Masked Brute] is an overbearing bloody red furred beast that stands upright at a staggering average of 23ft. It features the hefty body of a gorilla with long lanky claws, a broad head with deep sunken eyes, and a wide gaping maw too large for its own face, extending slightly onto its shoulders. Beasts that thrive off abundant blood qi like these will often make an appearance in areas of great conflict and strife.
  50.
  51. In invoking this Intent, Boetius' qi and blood will begin to boil restlessly, crashing and banging against his innards. An aura of [Crimson Born Masked Brute] coats him, giving his hands long lanky claws. Although it isn't good for his health, his physical strength gains a boost and his qi becomes explosive.
  52.
  53.
  54.
  55. History:
  56.
  57. Boetius lacked the natural talent required to continue advancing upon the path of the immortal, but he was never heartbroken about this. He didn't want to walk the same path as his peers in the first place. His goal is to forge his own dao and become a god. He couldn't follow the same path regardless.
  58.
  59. His goal is to completely master all of the daos of creation, the primal daos. Although most of his insights are currently in the Beast and Animal daos. Regardless, he will unhesitatingly tell you that he is an exalted primal daoist.
  60.
  61. He has read through a few technique manuals over the course of his life, but they either had unfeasible requirements to practice or wouldn't conform with his dao. He has drawn inspiration from them, however, and it helped him make a few low tier self created techniques.

  64. Netherworld bio
  65.
  66.
  67. - Name: Boetius Millicent
  68.
  69. - Titles: Primordial Daoist
  70.
  71. - Age: 161
  72.
  73. - Bio: Boetius comes from a world with a refined power system. A land of those who defy their mortality by cultivating Qi; A vital force believed to be present in all things. Of course, with obstacles like talent, resources, and ongoing bloody conflicts with origins dating back hundreds of thousands of millennia, there are few who can walk far along this path.
  74.
  75. He was born to a common family that did well enough to get by, in and small city, Agus, that was built along a ley line that cuts deep within the thick [Wayan Forest]. He grew up listening to stories of powerful immortals exploring forbidden zones, slaughtering leagues of Yaomo, and going tit for tat with the mighty and majestic dragons blessed by the heavens. Even his own [Agus City] held such a tale: The great ancestor having to face the retaliation of countless magical beasts as well as a formidable [Tribrachial Marten] as they forcefully opened a path and built its foundations. Thus, given opportunity, who wouldn't want to attempt to join the ranks of beings like these? Just like his parents and theirs alike, Boetius was not indifferent to such thoughts. Purchasing an introductory technique from a small sect after having saved enough money at the age of 24.
  76.
  77. Introductory techniques for cultivation wasn't out of the range of the common mortal as it also served as a method to pick out and recruit talents from among the populace. For those that didn't have enough talent to earn the attention of the several factions controlling [Agus City], the price of subsequent installments rose sharply. Boetius had found that he had that he had the qualifications to cultivate Qi, though it wasn't nearly enough to attract the desired attention. As such, he could only slowly earn his way, joining hunting expeditions and picking up teaching jobs later in life.
  78.
  79. He was 67 when he reached the 3rd stage. A 3rd stage Qi Transformation practitioner could be considered to be roughly on par with the average peak human expert and therefore didn't command much attention, but it was enough to guarantee his parents a comfortable lifestyle as they reached the end of their lifespans. The deaths of his parents triggered a realization within him: He was running out of time.
  80.
  81. The sect that sold the line of cultivation techniques he was using required one to join as low ranking disciple, expected to run menial errands and put one's life at risk to fight the sects battles to access the advancement manuals of the 3rd stage and up. He had only gotten the technique for the 3rd stage through under the counter means, but the same wouldn't be possible for the 4th stage as it was controlled far more strictly. He wasn't willing to work under someone and trust his growth to whether someone favored him or not, as he had already experienced that kind of thing working as a teacher. To break from his impasse, he chose to do something drastic - To leave the safe confines of [Agus City] and live within the [Wayan Forest] where beasts are more than a match for equivalently ranked practitioners for the sake of pursuing his dao.
  82.
  83. The experience gained from joining expeditions hunting magical beasts earlier in his life proved useful, but he wasn't prepared for trying to survive outside in the long term. Excluding the threat the native magical beasts brought, there was also the threat of other people. If one came across a group of a sect's members, one would often be left alone as long as one didn't interfere with their interests. Loose Cultivators, those without sect nor clan like him, proved to be far less reserved in such matters. It grows harder to support the growth of cultivation the higher it gets, especially with the menial jobs that Boetius was working. Without the backing of an organization, you'd have to venture out in search of opportunities yourself. Yet they were in short supply, thus there were constant conflicts among Loose Cultivators.
  84.
  85. Over the course of many years, Boetius undergoes this tempering of life and death within this hostile environment. He fought tooth and nail over precious resources with other practitioners, facing multiple defeats and victories, even attracting the ire and pursuit of a couple factions on occasions. Amidst his spoils of things like the naturally born magical treasures and cultivation pills there were Qi manuals. For Boetius who lacked a way forward, these were absolutely critical for his development. Although he hadn't found any that were suitable for him, many of them not even being meant for a human's use, they served as a point of reference. This allowed Boetius to forge his own method, breaking from 3rd all the way to the 5th stage of Qi Transformation, as well as creating a compatible defensive qi technique based off the resistant and enduring fur of powerful magical beasts.
  86.
  87. As he grew older, 153 now, he began valuing external forms of power more, spending a great deal of his hard fought wealth to buy an offensive spell talisman from a skilled inscription master and even started trying to study the art of magical formations. The root of this growing interest was the waning speed of the growth of his cultivation base, as it had to keep developing or else he'd succumb to age. An expert had once done a study on the [Wayan Forest], stating that the resources within could theoretically support the birth of several 8th stage elders. Yet due to constant conflict, rank 7s was the most it saw. The rank 5 strength that he had gave him a formidable presence within the vicinity of [Agus City], but that also meant that it was very difficult to advance past that. Would he have to do something drastic again? As he was beginning to have such doubts, an opportunity had come.
  88.
  89. A very rare natural phenomenon. The air churned, the earth quaked, and light bent, all of it coalescing towards a point in the distance. These were the signs of a great heavenly treasure maturing. Moreover, he was close. Thoughts of grandeur clouded his mind as he rushed over.
  90.
  91. The disturbance had already started to calm by the time Boetius had arrived at a small clearing in the forest, the Heavenly Treasure in question was visible: A tree. Small and spindly, it barely reached 3 ft. Its bark was smooth and a shade of bright purple, like that of an eggplant. The tree was bald of leaves, though among its limbs floated glaring lights of various colors; Likely the result of the earlier commotion.
  92.
  93. Such a plant didn’t ring any bells with Boetius, but he had some guesses of its nature, judging by how the descent of nearby falling leaves and other debris would slow to a crawl around it, even seeming to teleport at times. Time, it had to be time! He’d heard the stories: Unless you had a special bloodline, one had to have at least entered the Dao Transformation stage to touch the laws of time.
  94.
  95. As his desire was beginning to surge, he spotted someone. A member of the [Agus City]’s largest sect, rank 5 just like him, made his entrance. It didn’t take long for them to become locked in combat. There wasn’t point in considering the possible repercussions of offending a powerful sect at this point; He believed himself dead if he couldn’t benefit off this. Therefore, he took a risk to quickly end his opponent’s life, receiving injury in return.
  96.
  97. Alas, before he could take a breath, two bloodied 7th stage elders of the same sect had joined the scene. Boetius was unfamiliar with the methods of sects, but he assumed that they had somehow been alerted to the death of their junior. Rather, what he was most concerned with was why two 7th stage elders were out here in the middle of nowhere. Beings of this stage were a very serious matter within [Agus City]; Eyes were always on them, their every movement causing massive political waves. Did they not care about the consequences of their absence? Had they already known about this Heavenly Treasure before its maturity?
  98.
  99. Unfortunately, he wasn’t give time to ponder. One of the Sect Elders didn’t waste time and attacked him immediately. Judging by his attitude, he surmised that this Sect Elder shared a blood relation with the now deceased junior. Of course, the gap between a 5th and 7th Qi Transformation practitioner wasn’t so large that the Elder could disregard Boetius’s defense, but the Sect Elder was no slouch himself. He displayed high skill in palm techniques, completely suppressing Boetius with strong successive blows, leaving him unable to activate his golden medallion. Even his [Black Ironwood Sloth] Intent proved to be of no use, the elder quickly changing his style to counter it, utilizing soft against his hard. He could only stand there and resist bitterly as he was slowly beaten to death, the Sect Elder smashing his skull in with one final palm. Boetius vividly recalls these last few moments as he awakens, unharmed on foreign forest floor, in the Netherworld.

  101. - Gender: Male
  102.
  103. - Sexuality: Straight
  104.
  105. - Pets/relationships: He's had his fair pick of the litter, but he has yet to find someone he can call a dao companion.
  106.
  107. - Race: Human
  108.
  109. - Powers/abilities:
  110. [Golden Spirit Medallion] The medallion that he wears around his neck was created by an inscription master, who inscribed a powerful one time use spell into its make. Upon evocation, it would release a projectile based offensive spell, [Tarragon Melanoid Jolt]. It was advertised to be equal to an all out strike from a 7th stage Qi Transformation practitioner. In the Netherworld, Boetius lacks the means of ever restoring the spell should he ever chose use it.
  111.
  112. [Movement technique] Boetius isn't talented in movement techniques, so he hasn't made any breakthroughs regarding this. He just crudely channels his qi to his feet, forcing them to move faster than they would be able to otherwise. It isn't worthy of being called a technique.
  113.
  114. [Threefold Bulwark Pelt] A 3 step technique that mimics the resilient hair coats of powerful magical beasts. The Ground hair (Undercoat), the guard hair, and the awn hair. Currently, he is only able to manifest the first stage of the technique, the ground hair. This consists of taking a great manifold of thin individual qi strands and interweaving them above the surface layer of his skin.
  115.
  116.
  117. This has worked very well for him, but to his frustration he can only store up to three, else it affects his cultivation base negatively. He can't figure out how to invoke more than just one at a time as well. Perhaps when he has more insights into the dao will he be able to overcome these obstacles.

  119.
  120. [Intent of the Black Ironwood Sloth]
  121.
  123.
  124. In invoking this Intent, the flow of qi and blood will immediately slow down, becoming hard and sturdy. Used in conjunction with his defensive technique, the qi hairs coalesce and lose their previous transparency, appearing with the Sloth's trademark black and silver colors. Boetius enjoys a rather large boost to his defensive technique like this, but his ability to move in any hurried manner is all but completely shut down.
  125.
  126.
  127.
  128. [Intent of the Milk Willow Gazelle]
  129.
  130. The [Milk Willow Gazelle] is a beautiful herbivore creature. Though it will fight just as ruthlessly as the next beast over magical plants, it strengths rely in its speed. This beast uses its high agility and speed to quickly outpace any problem it might have. Some say it’s actually a goat.
  131.
  132. In invoking this Intent, Boetius' qi and blood will thin and run like water rapids. A phantom image of the Gazelle's legs will appear coinciding with his own. Boetius' lack of movement skill talent gets a huge bolster, increasing his movement speed and jumping power. Consequently, his defense withers until it isn’t much better than quilted cloth. His Qi’s ability to boost the power of his strikes is likewise reduced. Due to these drawbacks, Boetius seldom uses it outside of escape and travel.
  133.
  134.
  135. [Intent of the Crimson-Born Masked Brute]
  136.
  137. The [Crimson-Born Masked Brute] is an overbearing bloody red furred beast that stands upright at a staggering average of 23ft. It features the hefty body of a gorilla with long lanky claws, a broad head with deep sunken eyes, and a wide gaping maw too large for its own face, extending slightly into its shoulders. Beasts that thrive off abundant blood qi like these will often make an appearance in areas of great conflict and strife.
  138.

Despite his age, his is still brimming with vitality. He wears a lavish ornate green and yellow robe. A golden medallion, made by an accomplished inscription master, hangs from his neck.
  142.
  143. - Power System: Just like weight training, martial training, or even just life, the cultivation of Qi doesn’t need to take a balanced or linear path. Methods differ in specialties, paths, and requirements. In cultivation, there are 3 major transformations, and 9 minors within each of them. Boetius’s knowledge of cultivation doesn’t exceed Qi Transformation.
  144.
  145. Qi Transformation:
  146. Qi Cycle, Awaken True Qi, Intangible to Tangible, Form the Golden Core,
  147. Elemental Endowment, Nature Shift, ???, ???, ???
  148.
  149. Soul Transformation: N/A
  150.
  151. Dao Transformation: N/A
  152.
  153. (The specifics of the power system needs some detailing, but that’s the gist. I’ll also be designing the specific cultivation method Boetius practices later, but regardless of what it is, it wont have any significant effect outside of letting him feel more connected with the forest or whatever. )
  154.
  155. [Charybdis Breath]
  156. An internal strength technique that uses the natural movements of the lungs to support its growth. Its qi paths flow along the nose mouth, and arms, eventually congregating around the lungs. As the cultivation of this technique deepens, it starts to resemble something reminiscent of a second set of lungs. Users of this technique have greater respiration abilities as it's qi captures and distributes oxygen as needed. In addition, due to its nature as a breathing technique, users have increased resistance against inhaled poisons, though are just as vulnerable as a common human against other methods of application.
  157.
  158. Rank 1 Qi Transformation: Nature Shift
  159. Changes the nature of the practitioner's Qi, giving it the supplementary respiratory behavior.
  160. Requires the vital essence of a life form to initiate the technique, the stronger the life form the better. Additional medicinal materials needed to neutralize any harmful agents as well as boost the effect. The user can be considered to have reached the peak of rank 1 after opening the nose, mouth, and shoulder apertures.
  161.
  162. Rank 2 Qi Transformation: Qi Cycle
  163. To advance to this stage, the user needs to establish a Qi cycle around the lungs. There are eight meridians (qi pathways) that flow throughout the body and come into contact with the lungs. Advancing in the 2nd stage involves creating a qi cycle (referring to a cycle that generates qi) between the yin lung meridians and the yang large intestine meridians. One can be considered to have reached the peak after creating a stable cycle. Failure to advance can cause a loss of cultivation base as well as internal damages, such as shredded lung.
  164.
  165. Rank 3 Qi Transformation: True Qi
  166. To breakthrough to rank 3, it requires an accumulation of qi until it triggers a change, fusing wen and xie qi, two natural qis of the body.
