Pokemon Fire Red any% FAQ (Charmander)

Q: What are you playing on?
A: A GameCube using a GameBoy Player.

Q: What are you trying to do?
A: Beat the game as fast as possible using the Charmander evolution line.

Q: Is Charmander faster than Squirtle?
A: Probably not, but it's close. The differences are detailed here: http://pastebin.com/G2DbcTzM

Q: What is the world record?
A: With Squirtle, 2:04:20 by PulseEffects. The Charmander record is 2:05:14 by me.

Q: Then why is the PB in your splits 2:04:48?
A: During runs, I start the timer about 26 seconds later to aid RNG manipulation.

Q: Why are you resetting?
A: Probably because my Charmander's stats are bad.

Q: What stats are you looking for?
A: A Mild, Rash or Quiet nature with extremely good Special Attack (ideally 30-31 IV, but 27-29 can manage), decent Attack (20+ IV) and not terrible Speed (6+ IV neutral, 29+ IV if Quiet).

Q: Why are you checking your trainer ID at the start of the run?
A: This enables me to RNG manipulate a good Charmander, albeit with a couple of restrictions. Each ID produces a unique list of starter stats, so by checking my ID, I'll know which Charmanders I'll get on certain frames. If there's a great one at, say, frame 4200, I'll want to select it in Prof. Oak's lab 4200 frames after my trainer ID was generated. This method is inconsistent because the RNG doesn't always advance at the same speed, so I might get Charmander #4195 or #4205 in the example above.
