  1. Half-Life: Alyx is a VR only prequel to Half-Life 2. Now, you may think this would make him right but that would be an incorrect and foregone conclusion. It may be a prequel, but it has been stated directly from Valve that you should have finished Half-Life 2 and it's 2 episodes before playing Half-Life: Alyx. There are rumours of time travel taking place in the game. This would make it the sequel we have waited 12 long years for. I don't think Dan realises what this game represents in the industry. Each game in the Half-Life franchise has pushed the boundaries of technology and the genre in general. Half-Life 1 was a narrative story within a first-person shooter. Half-Life revolutionised story telling. There were no cutscenes that took you out of the first-person perspective. For all intents and purposes, you are Gordon Freeman. Half-Life 2 continued these traits. Of course, they did something new. Half-Life 2 had incredible graphics for 2004, the use of real time physics and the gravity gun made a profound change to the gaming landscape. The character animations were so far ahead it made games look out of date for years after release. Half-Life 2 also introduced the Source Engine, an incredible engine for the time. Half-Life: Alyx will do the same for VR games. The amount of thought Valve put into doors, which can be seen in a talk presented at DigiPen, is incredible. The point is not just doors, but all aspects of the player interacting with the game world. Other games have been shoehorned into VR and do not have intuitive controls and interactions. Half-Life: Alyx will change this. It has been built from the ground up for VR, and Valve have made it clear that they could not produce a non-VR version as a result. It would dilute the game experience too much. Therefore Half-Life: Alyx is not only the true Half-Life 3, but will be the best game ever.
