- Seiken Densetsu - Legend of Mana
- Platform: PS1
- Released:
- 15.07.1999 (J)
- 07.06.2000 (NA)
- Based on: NTSC-U/C-version (SLUS-01013) (and NTSC-J (SLPS-02170))
- - ALWAYS TALK TO LI'L CACTUS AFTER COMPLETING A QUEST!
- - A single save file takes 2 blocks of space.
- - You can do a soft reset by hitting the usual buttons.
- - The game is non-linear to a substantial degree. There's no need to
- complete the quests in the exact order as they are covered.
- - Many of the more elusive quests give nothing as a reward other than
- the chance to obtain the diary entry.
- - You can carry at most 100 different pieces of equipment.
- - There are no healing items or spells (or at least no healing items
- that you can carry with you and use at will). You slowly regenerate HP
- when standing still. HP is fully recovered at the end of a battle.
- - You can use both the analog stick or the d-pad for movement. I recommend
- the analog stick (although you may need to switch to the d-pad when doing
- thrusts). When using the d-pad, you can only move in 8 directions. With
- the analog stick, you can move in 12 (or maybe 16?) directions.
- - You can run by holding down either Cancel or L1.
- - If you're playing the game on a PS1, don't forget that you can (and
- should) use a DualShock 2.
- - If you're playing the PS1 Classic version on a PS3 or PSTV, you may
- run into an issue where your TV sets the screen setting to Wide Zoom,
- in which case it looks like the image is being displayed on the inside
- of a barrel. You can easily fix this by manually changing the TV settings.
- - You have two different normal attacks. Quick Attacks and Power Attacks.
- A typical combo consists of some Quick Attacks followed by one or two
- Power Attacks. Abilities can also be included.
- - The max number of hits in the Quick Attack combo depends on the weapon
- type, but for most weapons it's 3. It's 4 for spears and staves, and 5
- for knuckles and nunchakus.
- - Quick Attacks and Abilities can be chained infinitely, whereas Power
- Attacks (and some Ability attacks) will end the chain. You can press
- Power Attack during many Abilities to perform an attack, but most of
- these will not end the chain.
- - If you press Quick Attack more times than what is needed for a full
- Quick Attack combo, the combo will end after the last hit, and your
- character will freeze in place for a brief moment.
- - Aside from the regular Power Attack, you also have three special Power
- Attacks: Thrust (66P), Uppercut (3P) and Jump (46P). You can use at most
- two Power Attacks in a combo. When doing two, the first one has to be
- the regular one.
- - Your attacks don't have much hitstun, and enemies can often attack
- faster than you can. As such, many enemies can easily interrupt your
- chains if they just happen to feel like it or they might just slip out
- of it. At point blank range, enemies can easily stunlock you, which
- is why I *highly* recommend using a spear, so you can keep a bit of a
- distance (the bow is safe too, but I find it's a bit *too* safe). There
- are many enemies that have ranged attacks, however, so even with a spear
- you should approach these enemies with some caution.
- - The best way to stunlock an enemy is to pin them against the wall
- and spam uppercuts. You should probably do that on peskier enemies.
- It's not uninterruptable, but it's about as good as it gets.
- × This is much less viable on the PS4 version due to the hit detection
- issues. Instead, you should just keep moving and do a simple Quick
- Attack -> Uppercut combo (or just a plain Uppercut) when you get a
- decent chance.
- - Your normal attacks can only hit one enemy at a time (the bow being
- the only exception). As such, you need to be careful when enemies are
- grouped together, and they often are. In this case, try to separate
- them with thrusts and uppercuts. Thrusts are safer, but are tricky to
- pull off without doing a jump attack instead (you need to press up or
- down before inputting the command). It's recommended that you have a
- pet with you, as they can separate and distract the enemy.
- - Bosses have special attacks during which they're invincible. Just
- like your wazas, they have a significant delay in execution, and you
- can easily avoid most of them by getting away from the boss or by going
- behind the boss.
- - Scoring a waza hit on a boss can indeed be difficult due to their
- special attack habit. To increase your chances, you can either stun
- the boss or time your waza to fire just as the boss's invincibility ends.
- - Hitting the enemy enough times with quick attack combo hits (ie. when
- you have a blue aura) will inflict Stun, which lasts around 5 seconds.
- Normal enemies will get stunned after 8 hits and bosses after 12. The
- bow can't inflict stun.
- - You can perform a Special Technique (Hissatsuwaza) once you've hit
- the enemy enough to fill the bar below your HP bar. The bar requires
- 16 points to fill. Quick Attacks and Ability Attacks give 1 point each,
- whereas Power Attacks give 2. Wazas all have at least a 3 second delay.
- You're invincible while performing a waza.
- × Quick Attacks when using a knife also give 2 points.
- - Learning new Abilities requires you to have certain other Abilities
- equipped for a certain number of battles (at most 18).
- - Learning new waza requires you to have certain Abilities and the weapon
- type equipped for a certain number of battles.
- - PS4: There's a gold Trophy that requires you to learn all wazas. In
- other words, you need to do 100 battles with each weapon type. Takes
- about 5 hours. I did it with the lone Molebear encounter at Ulkan Mines.
- - Your base movement speed during battle is affected by the weight
- class of your weapon.
- - The fastest way to move horizontally during battle is to wiggle the
- analog stick rapidly in the desired direction. You can't speed up
- vertical movement anywhere near as much, but you can still increase
- it a bit using a similar method, although you should move the analog
- stick more broadly, to create a wavy/zigzag pattern. I suppose we could
- call this technique... skating.
- - When standing next to an ally, you will trigger Synchro effects.
- - There is no way to avoid battles or run away from them. You can't
- enter the menu during battle.
- - You can see the enemy's HP bar during battle, although no damage
- figures are visible. A single bar is 100 HP.
- - If you and all your allies die, you'll be given the choice to try
- again or return to the title screen. If someone else is still alive,
- a character will revive with full health after a while (indicated by
- the grey bar). Reviving takes about 30 seconds (it varies).
- - When killed, enemies can drop Experience crystals, money, items or
- candy. Bosses usually drop large crystals (5 of them), which are worth
- 10 times the amount. Coins only give 10 Lucre each (large ones 50).
- Candy is consumed on the spot to restore health (Candy: 25%. Chocolate:
- 50%). All of these disappear after about 6 seconds.
- - Enemies have eight item drop slots. At very low levels, an enemy can
- only drop items from the first four slots, but a new slot becomes active
- every 16 levels. Check the item drop guide on GameFAQs to see what all
- the drops are.
- - Aside from HP, there are eight base stats:
- Power | "Raw strength level"
- Skill | "Technical attack level"
- Defense | "Defense against physical attacks"
- Magic | "Defense against magic"
- Vitality| "Affects HP & poison resistance"
- Spirit | "Defense against status magic"
- Charm | "Affects status magic"
- Luck | "Frequency of finding treasure"
- - Your stat gains when leveling up are defined by the weapon you have
- equipped at the time, as seen below.
- - Even with the lowest Vitality gain, you'll still easily reach max HP.
- Power Skill Def Mag Vit Spirit Charm
- Knife | 0,75| 1,25| 0,75| 0,75| 0,5 | 1,0 | 1,0 | Tanken
- Sword | 1,0 | 1,0 | 1,0 | 0,75| 0,75| 0,75| 0,75| Katate Tsurugi
- Axe | 1,0 | 0,75| 1,0 | 0,75| 0,75| 1,0 | 0,5 | Katate Ono
- 2H Sword | 1,25| 1,0 | 0,75| 0,75| 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| Ryoute Tsurugi
- 2H Axe | 1,25| 0,75| 1,25| 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| 0,5 | Ryoute Ono
- Hammer | 1,75| 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| 0,75| 0,75| 0,75| Hammer
- Spear | 0,75| 1,25| 1,0 | 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| 1,0 | Yari
- Staff | 0,5 | 0,75| 0,75| 1,25| 0,5 | 0,75| 1,25| Tsue
- Glove | 1,25| 0,75| 0,75| 0,5 | 1,0 | 0,75| 0,75| Knuckle
- Flail | 0,75| 1,25| 0,5 | 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| 1,25| Nunchaku
- Bow | 0,5 | 1,75| 0,75| 0,75| 0,5 | 0,75| 1,0 | Yumiya
- - There are four separate defense stats for blunt, slashing, piercing
- and magical damage.
- - You can create a candy if you land x number of hits during a chain
- (ie. when you have a blue shadow), where x is the max number of hits in
- the weapon's Quick Attack combo + 1. The count starts when you hit the
- enemy with an Ability attack and resets if you switch attack types more
- than once. For most weapons (the ones that only require 4 hits), it's
- really easy to do it unintentionally if you like using Flip-Kick. In
- any case, creating candy has a downside, as it leaves you unable to act
- for 2 seconds.
- × The bow is an exception and requires 5 hits.
- - There are eight elements: Wisp (Light), Shade (Dark), Dryad (Wood),
- Aura (Gold), Salamander (Fire), Gnome (Earth), Jinn (Wind) and Undine
- (Water). Wisp/Shade and Dryad/Aura are opposites, whereas the remaining
- four form a cycle: Salamander beats Gnome, Gnome beats Jinn, Jinn beats
- Undine, and Undine beats Salamander.
- - You gain access to new areas by placing Artifacts on the World Map.
- Artifacts are mostly obtained as a reward for completing quests. Most
- of these quests can give you two Artifacts: a primary one and a secondary
- one. If you have more than two unplaced Artifacts, you can only obtain
- the primary Artifact (the first one listed), but not the secondary one.
- If you already have both Artifacts, you'll receive metal instead.
- - Each Artifact has a small, default amount of elemental Mana energy.
- When you place an Artifact, the cardinally adjacent lands will receive
- this default amount as a bonus, whereas the new land will receive a
- bonus that is half of the combined total Mana energy of the cardinally
- adjacent lands. The latter bonus is not updated to reflect any future
- Mana level increases in the adjacent lands.
- - You can't place an Artifact next to a land if you haven't done the
- default quest there yet (doesn't apply to towns). It doesn't matter if
- the quest is completed successfully, missed or failed. If it's missed or
- failed, you need to visit the area before you can place a land next to it.
- - Most Artifacts can only be placed on land, as you might expect. There
- are two Artifacts that can only be placed next to water, and one that
- can only be placed on water.
- - Each land has a "land level" that is the sum of the placement order
- and distance from Home. This figure affects the following things:
- × Enemy base levels
- × Metal quest rewards
- × Items sold
- × Chance to find certain types of eggs
- - NTSC-U/C: Enemy base level = Land Level - 3 (<LL33), or 2(LL - 18) (>LL32).
- Exp = Lv (<LL11) or Lv/2 + 5 (>LL10).
- - NTSC-J: Exp is the same, but enemy base levels are calculated using a
- formula whose nature escapes me. It's roughly 1,5*LL above land level 17.
- The chart at the end of the Monsterdrop guide on Gamefaqs shows you what
- all the figures are.
- - In some cases, the enemy's level will be defined with Land Level = 1,5x,
- where x is the number of Artifacts placed. Primarily, this happens with
- subsequent bosses you fight after the first boss in a given land.
- - Enemy levels are further affected by the land's elemental values. This
- will result in the enemy's level being multiplied by one of the following:
- 0,5; 0,625; 0,75; 0,875; 1,0; 1,125; 1,25. The formula is 1 + 0,125(a-b),
- where a is the combined total value of favorable elements, and b is the
- combined total value of unfavorable elements. You can see each enemy's
- elemental attributes in the enemy list in the misc. file.
- - There are six days in a week. Jinn Dryad Undine Salamander Aura Gnome
- - One day will go by when you
- × walk to another area on the World Map
- × exit to World Map
- - If you go Home and try to enter your house, any NPC character that
- might have joined you will leave.
- - The game was rebalanced for the North American release, which made
- the game quite a bit easier (at least on Normal). In the NTSC-J-version:
- × Leveling up requires more Exp.
- × Enemy base levels are higher.
- × Materials have more powerful properties.
- × Mindas Ruins and Madora Beach have slightly different enemies.
- × You can use the PocketStation to play the Ring Ring Land mini-game
- where you can obtain some materials you can't obtain any other way.
- - Ring Ring Land is a simple board game, where you move along a linear,
- figure 8 path by rolling a number. To roll a number, you press the button
- to stop a scrolling sequence of numbers with values ranging between 1-6.
- There's some slight variation in how quickly the scrolling stops, but
- even then, skill can be a significant factor. I suggest using the 1's
- as a point of reference.
- - You can choose to go for one lap, two laps, or three laps. A higher
- lap count makes the course harder, but you'll also have a chance of
- getting better items.
- - You start with 3 HP. If you reach 0 HP, it's game over. There are
- spots where you can recover 1 HP and spots that increase your max HP
- by 1 (while also healing you by 1).
- - Along the course, you'll encounter enemies and find items. Battles
- with enemies involve both of you rolling a number, with the greater
- number deciding the victor. Beating an enemy gives Exp for your pet and
- they may also drop an item. If you get a draw, nothing happens. If you
- lose, you take 1 point of damage.
- - The treasure chests that give you items may be trapped. If you roll
- one of three values, the trap will be sprung. Traps include a bomb (-1
- HP), a punching glove (sends you back) and an encounter.
- - If you're playing the NTSC-J version on a PSTV, you can download a
- PocketStation emulator and, thus, gain access to Ring Ring Land (well,
- unless the store has closed). Don't forget that the PSTV is essentially
- region-locked. The emulator is not available on the PS3.
- - Upstairs in your house, you'll find the Cactus Diary. If or when you
- talk to Li'l Cactus after completing a quest, you'll receive a brief
- entry in the diary regarding the quest. However, this only applies to
- the most recent quest completed. As such, you can and most likely will
- miss some entries. There is no in-game reward for completing the diary,
- but anyone with compulsive tendencies will likely be driven to complete it.
- - After completing the game, you'll be given the choice to save the game.
- Loading this save file will start a New Game + playthrough where you will
- retain pretty much everything.
- - Completing the game also gives you the Forbidden Tome, which you can
- check at your study. It allows you to switch the difficulty level between
- Normal, Nightmare (aka Hell) and No Future.
- × On Nightmare, land levels are increased by 20.
- × On No Future, land levels are set to max at which point all enemies
- have a base level of 99.
- × PS4: Switching to No Future is all you need to do to get the related
- Trophy.
- Regarding the 2021 version
- - The 2021 version is based on the North American release. The game will
- be the same regardless of which regional store you buy it from.
- - At its core, this version is still the original game, running on an
- emulator. The changes are primarily cosmetic, but here are some other
- differences:
- - Loading times are faster.
- - The translation has been redone. Most item/enemy names are still the
- same, though.
- - You can only move in 8 directions. Indeed, they've just mapped the
- d-pad to the analog stick.
- - Some sound effects are (very) inaccurately emulated.
- - Battle arenas are wider.
- - If an enemy is at the very left or right edge of screen, hit detection
- becomes compromised, causing your attacks to easily miss.
- - Ring Ring Land is available in every version.
- - The secrets triggered by having save data from other Square games can
- be triggered by other means.
- - You have the option of disabling encounters.
- - The Japanese version now has the same changes that were made for the
- NTSC-U/C version.
- - The way I see it, the re-release needed two things: fast loading times
- and an event skip / fast-forward. We got the first, but not the second.
- That's still nice, but once you factor in the combat issues, I'm still
- leaning towards the original version. Maybe after another 20 years, we'll
- get a version with skip scene. That'll be the version I'll highly recommend -
- well, unless they abandon the wonderful 2D visuals (a lost art in the realm
- of video games).
- - When you start a new game, you can choose
- × between a male and female main character.
- × your starting weapon.
- × the map area (6x6).
- × the language. (2021 version)
- - In New Game+, you'll only choose the map area.
- - You are free to switch weapons as you like, so the starting weapon is
- in no way any kind of commitment. I always use the spear myself, but also
- get 8 levels while using the hammer at some point.
- - The following 5 quests will not reoccur in New Game+: The Mana Orchards,
- Monster Corral, Enchanted Instruments 101, The Path of the Blacksmith and
- Golem Go Make'em (53-57). Consequently, if you miss the diary entries for
- any of these, you simply cannot get them.
- - You don't have to stress about Artifact placement. It's really not
- that important at all. If you want some Altena Alloy (one of the highest
- quality materials), start from one corner, then work your way towards
- the opposite corner. It's better if you don't place Home in the very
- corner, but rather one spot away from the corner, so your Home can get
- slightly better Mana energy values.
- \\\ Home ||
- - You'll start at Level 1 with a Menos weapon and a Menos Hauberk.
- - Your default Abilities are: Jump, Defend, Lunge, Retreat, Crouch,
- Push, Cheer, and Spin. You'll also have one waza (Special Technique).
- × NTSC-J: Jump, Guard, Dash, Backdash, Shagamu, Push, Appeal, Kaiten
- - You have the option of changing button configs. Here's what I use:
- R1 | Quick Attack
- R2 | Power Attack
- L1 | Ability 1
- L2 | Ability 2
- - Check the bookshelf in your study to access your encyclopedias.
- × Trophy note: Once you have every encyclopedia and every entry, just
- check the bookshelf to get the encyclopedia Trophy. You can find an
- enemy list and a character list in the misc. file.
- × Enemies are added to the Monster encyclopedia when you fight them,
- so better not use No Encounters in areas you haven't been to before.
- No normal enemy is missable, though.
- - Outside, talk to the Sproutling to get the Colorblocks Artifact (AF).
- Use it to create Domina.
- - There are three quests that require that the area has a certain element
- at Lv3. Two of these quests are in Domina and one of them is in Duma Desert.
- The easiest way to get these quests is to place Domina and Duma Desert
- diagonally adjacent and then leave an empty space, so you can eventually
- place the Mana Tree next to both of them.
- Quest: Niccolo's Business Unusual \\\ Domina ||
- - Find Niccolo at the Marketplace. Choose the second and first dialog
- options and he'll join you. Next, go talk to Teapo at the store to get
- the Wheel AF (Luon Highway).
- - If you talk to Mark, you'll get the Equipment Encyclopedia.
- - If you talk to Jennifer at the Marketplace, she'll give you the Item
- Encyclopedia, which doesn't actually list individual items but rather
- item groups.
- - Don't forget that you can ditch any NPC that has joined you by going
- inside your house. In some cases, this will cause the quest to fail.
- You can usually find the NPC again in the same place where they first
- joined.
- Boss: Mantis Ant \\\ Luon Highway ||
- - Get to the boss. Kill the boss.
- × Greenball Bun, Tako Bug, Iron Pot, Flame AF (Gato), Medallion AF (Jungle)
- - The Luon Highway is one of three dungeons that feature a red, bovine-
- like creature called Boink, who will teleport you to where their tail
- is. Initially, they prevent you from fully exploring the dungeon, but
- they'll later swap places with their tails (after completing the default
- quest in case of Luon and Mekiv), thus giving you full access while
- also allowing you to skip part of the dungeon (in one way only, though).
- - You should farm some Big Seeds from the Lullabuds.
- \\\ Home ||
- Quest: The Little Sorcerers
- - ALWAYS TALK TO LI'L CACTUS AFTER COMPLETING A QUEST!
- - As you leave your house, Pelican will appear.
- Boss: Bud & Lisa \\\ Domina ||
- - Head to the northwest end of town.
- - After defeating them, Bud and Lisa (Corona) will start living in your
- home. You can freely pick either one up as an NPC.
- - Don't forget to return Home and talk to Li'l Cactus in order to get
- the diary entry (unless you already have it).
- Quest: Monster Corral \\\ Domina ||
- - Go to the northwest end to get your first monster egg.
- - From now on, you'll have a chance of encountering a monster egg
- whenever you enter certain areas. Some of these areas have chests, but
- they won't appear if you encounter an egg (or spirit).
- - Pets have *very* limited damage output. As already mentioned, they're
- mainly of use as a distraction.
- Quest: The Wisdom of Gaeus \\\ Domina ||
- - Find Daena at the Inn (she'll be there once you've been to A3 at Luon
- Highway) and you'll get some dialog options.
- - I know
- - I don't know
- - It disappears
- --> - It lives forever
- --> - Let's go
- - Go by yourself
- - You only have one shot, so get the choices right or you will fail the
- quest before it even officially begins.
- \\\ Luon Highway ||
- - Go see Gaeus. Afterwards, Daena will give you a Forbidden Ring.
- × The Forbidden Ring has an Exp Share auto-ability that divides your
- Exp among all allies. The allies will still get full Exp from any
- crystals they pick up themselves.
- - Go talk to Li'l Cactus to get the diary entry.
- Quest: The Mana Orchards \\\ Home ||
- - After talking to Li'l Cactus, check the orchard. Give some seeds
- to Trent. Upon harvesting some produce, the quest will end. If you're
- having trouble grabbing the fruit, stay still when you hit Confirm or
- try holding down Confirm.
- - You can give Trent one or two seeds at a time. One seed gives three
- produce, while two seeds give four produce. There's enough space for
- eight produce at a time.
- - Move around on the world map to pass time and make the fruit grow.
- Whenever you harvest a piece of produce, Trent has a chance of picking
- up a seed, which he'll then give to you when you talk to him. However,
- if you leave without talking to him, the seeds will be forfeit.
- - PS4: If you're going for the all produce Trophy, see the misc. file
- for information on how to get rare produce.
- - Produce is used in tempering and can be given to pets to affect their
- level up gains. Even if you're not interested in any of that, note that
- there's a quest that requires a Citrisquid (Yellow / Oblong Seed).
- - If you harvest a total of 60 produce, Trent will give you the Golden
- Seed AF, which you can use to create another orchard. You should get it
- just to increase your land levels a bit, as it'll make it easier to get
- Altena Alloy. There's no rush, though.
- - You can give up to three fruit to a pet, who will then eat them upon
- leveling up.
- - If all you want to do is make your pet more resilient, so they can
- tank more hits, you should give them Cabbadillo (DFPa-c +0,5, DFPd -0,5)
- (Big Seed / Green).
- × The Cabbadillo increases all four DFP stats by 0,5 in the NTSC-J
- version. It was nerfed in the NTSC-U/C version so that it gives a
- magic defense penalty. For some reason, you can't negate the penalty
- with Bug Meat (DFPd +0,5).
- × Feeding more than one Cabbadillo at a time doesn't seem to increase
- the DFP bonus.
- - Don't forget to use the Forbidden Ring to make leveling up your pet
- easier. If you end up getting some levels without food bonuses, that's
- fine. It doesn't have to be that precise.
- - Aside from the regular stats, pets also have (hidden) personality stats.
- How these stats affect a pet's behavior is not very well understood, but
- if you're only using them as a decoy, it doesn't really matter.
- - To get the Produce Encyclopedia, ask the priest in Domina about Meimei.
- You can also use the produce list in the misc. file.
- Quest: The Seven Wisdoms \\\ Home ||
- - If you talk to Bud, you should be able to start the Seven Wisdoms
- quest. The six Wisdoms are:
- - Gaeus (Luon Highway)
- - Rosiotti (Jungle)
- - Tote (Lake Kilma)
- - Pokiehl (various)
- - Olbohn (Underworld)
- - Selva (Gato - eventually)
- - Selva appears in Gato once Bud has seen all the other Wisdoms.
- \\\ Domina ||
- - Go to the pub to find Elazul (Ruri).
- a. Choose the 2nd dialog option 3 times and Elazul will join right
- away and you'll also get the Jade Egg AF (Mekiv Caverns).
- b. Choose any other dialog options (or have Niccolo in your party).
- Visit the Marketplace and Elazul will join you as you leave (if you
- already have an NPC, it's possible to refuse in which case you'll
- find him at the pub). Then go talk to Rachel to get the Jade Egg.
- Quest: The Lost Princess \\\ Mekiv Caverns ||
- Boss: Du'Inke
- - Get to the boss. Kill the boss.
- × You'll get Stone Eye AF (Lake Kilma) and Firefly Lamp AF (Lumina).
- - You can probably buy a better armor in Lumina.
- Lost & Found: True Spear (Sahagin) \\\ Mekiv Caverns ||
- - If you're using a spear, you'll want to pick up a True Spear. You'll
- find Sahagins in B9.
- × As already mentioned, primary materials have more powerful properties
- in the NTSC-J version. Take the True Spear, for instance. In the NTSC-U/C
- version, it has an ATP of 17, whereas it's a whopping 39 ATP in NTSC-J.
- Indeed, it's so powerful in the Japanese version, you might want to
- refrain from using it for the time being.
- Quest: Diddle's Letter \\\ Domina ||
- - Talk to Diddle at the park and he'll wander off. Visit the Outskirts
- then come back and talk to Capella. Next, talk to the Sproutling at the
- center then go to the inn (can't be triggered if Seeing Double is in
- progress). Next, go to the outskirts and Capella will be taken away by
- the Pelican. Refresh the area and talk to the Pelican.
- Boss: Giga Rex \\\ Luon Highway ||
- - Check the letter at the fork (A8), then head towards the cave. If
- you tell Diddle that Capella read his letter, he'll run off right away.
- Otherwise, it won't happen until you're at A1. Either way, once that
- happens, head to the end of the cave. (Gator Skin)
- Quest: Huntin' Du'Cate \\\ Jungle ||
- Boss: Du'Cate
- - If you return to the first area, you'll find Sotherbee chasing a
- Lilipea. The Lilipea will show you which paths you need to take. Or
- you can just use the map. Or figure it out yourself. Either way, you
- need to find the hidden path that takes you to the Greenwood Gardens
- (B2). After defeating the enemies there, a penguin appears. Once you've
- talked to him/her, a new path becomes available in A6.
- - Talk to Hamson in B5, then Skippie in B6 and Rosiotti in B7. Next, talk
- to Skippie in B5 (or A2) and Hamson in A7 (or A9) and agree to help them.
- Afterwards, talk to Skippie in A6 and fight the boss in C1.
- × 500 Lucre, Sand Rose AF (Duma Desert), Ancient Tablet AF (Mindas Ruins)
- / Metal
- - ALWAYS TALK TO LI'L CACTUS AFTER COMPLETING A QUEST!
- Quest: The Murmuring Forest \\\ Jungle ||
- Boss: Punkmaster
- - Try to go to C3, so that the faerie teleports you away (if this hasn't
- already happened). Next, go to the Courtyard of Rain (A4). Defeat the
- enemies and talk to the penguin. Doing so modifies A8, so that a new
- path (leading to C4) and a chest (and, potentially, Chitto) appear
- there. Either way, you still need to talk to Selkie at B7 as well before
- you can proceed to the boss in C7.
- - Don't forget that, if you have more than 2 unplaced Artifacts, you
- can only obtain the first listed Artifact as a reward.
- Quest: The Flame of Hope \\\ Gato Grottoes ||
- - After running around and triggering some events (cliff, temple, cliff,
- temple, cliff), you'll have access to the dungeon area. Navigate through
- the caves and you're done.
- - Trophy note: This is (likely) your first chance to get Alex's encyclopedia
- entry (16), which is missable. Even if you miss it, you can always get it
- on New Game +.
- × [Ancient Tablet AF], Torch of Coral AF (Madora Beach) / Metal
- Quest: Niccolo's Business Unusual - Part 2 \\\ Gato Grottoes ||
- - Find Niccolo in the shop and take him to the waterfall. Visit the next
- area and come back, then wait 15 seconds and a faerie should appear.
- × Greenball Bun, 500 Lucre, Broken Doll AF (Junkyard), [Medallion AF]
- / Metal
- - If you ditch Niccolo by going Home, the quest will fail.
- Quest: Reach for the Stars \\\ Duma Desert ||
- Boss: 2× Axebeak
- - Talk to Kathinja and offer to help to initiate the quest.
- - NTSC-J: Get a Ninja Charm from the Ducks if they're Lv16.
- × [Broken Doll AF], [Torch of Coral AF] / Metal
- - For whatever reason, if you get metal, you're likely to get Ishe
- Platinum, regardless of the land level. This is a high quality material.
- Without a smithy workshop, it won't really do you any good, though.
- Quest: Enchanted Instruments 101 \\\ Home ||
- - Go to the Workshops and you'll learn how to use instruments to obtain
- elemental coins from elemental spirits. These coins are needed to boost
- the stats of an item when tempering. Unless you're planning on playing
- the game on higher difficulty levels, it's nothing you need to bother with.
- If you do want to get some coins, you'll want to buy or create a better
- instrument later.
- - Farming coins can be rather tedious, but if you use Morph Meat, Mercury,
- Sulphur, Acid and Flaming Quills, you really don't need many. You'll
- have to farm those instead, but it should be a bit more engaging.
- - The spirits will appear in the same areas as monster eggs. The odds
- of encountering a certain spirit are defined by the land's elemental
- values.
- Quest: Faeries' Light \\\ Lumina ||
- - Go talk to Monique at her lamp shop to start the quest, then talk to
- Gilbert (dialog choice doesn't matter - the result is the same). Next, go
- talk to the bartender. You now need to sell three lamps to the Dudbears.
- Two of them (a & b) are at the tavern, the third one is in Bright Moon Alley.
- a: 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd (+ 3rd)
- b. 1st, 1st, 1st
- c. 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st
- - If you screw up, you need to talk to one of the other two bears before
- you can try again (even if it's the last one left).
- × Trembling Spoon AF (Underworld), [Sand Rose AF]
- - After completing the quest, you should find Pokiehl in Bright Moon
- Alley. He'll disappear after you leave, so get Bud in your party before
- going there.
- - Don't forget to sell equipment you don't need.
- Quest: The Infernal Doll \\\ Junkyard ||
- - You have to follow a certain path indicated by the toys to reach the
- end (A8): Jack-in-the-box, teddy bear, doll, jack-in-the-box, rocking horse.
- - If you take the wrong path, you have to either leave the dungeon or
- teleport to the entrance (by talking to the jack-in-the-box in the Acropolis
- of Trash (A5)) to reset the sequence.
- - Trophy note: You'll need to talk to Louie to get his encyclopedia entry
- (54)(meeting him at the end of the quest isn't enough).
- × Tome of Magic AF (Geo), Moon's Mirror AF (Tower of Leires) / Metal
- - Don't visit Geo too early or you'll miss one of the Gilbert quests.
- You can still place it, though.
- - If you're planning on doing higher difficulty levels, you should get
- a Polter Box pet from the Junkyard. The Polter Box is the least common
- monster you can get from the Poltergeist Egg, so it could take a while.
- Get a few eggs at a time.
- - The Polter Box's Synchro ability increases an enemy's drop rank by
- two, meaning you can get the 8th slot drop from a Lv32 enemy. The drop
- rates are increased as well, but it could still easily take the better
- part of an hour to score a slot 7 or 8 drop (1/32 chance).
- × NTSC-J: With the Ogre Box, you can go grab a Captain Metto from the
- Ducks at Duma Desert. You could also get a Blaze Piercer or Kyojin no
- Yari from Sahagins.
- - In case you forgot, Synchro abilities are active when standing near
- an ally (you can see an electric current running between the characters'
- crystals at the top).
- Quest: Daddy's Broom \\\ Home ||
- - Talk to Bud or Lisa to start Daddy's Broom, then talk to Li'l Cactus.
- If you can't start the quest, leave Home, then try again.
- Boss: Gremlin \\\ Junkyard ||
- - You need to get to A8 again.
- Quest: Teatime of Danger \\\ Mindas Ruins ||
- Boss: Count Dovula
- - Mindas Ruins features two intersections with gates that block two of
- the four paths. The gates in the western intersection are controlled by
- the female flowerlings (found in B6 and D1), whereas the gates in the
- eastern one are controlled by the male flowerlings (found in A9, C3 and
- C9). You can tell which gates are open based on the positions of the
- flowerlings, as seen below. Because of the way the gates work, you can't
- go from north to west or from south to east.
- 1
- 12 2o3
- 34 4
- - You need to talk to the Flowerling at C1 before you can reach the boss.
- × Bottled Spirit AF (Ulkan Mines), Rusty Anchor AF (Polpota Harbor)
- Quest: Summer Lovin' \\\ Madora Beach ||
- Boss: Fullmetal Haggar
- - Get to the boss. Fight the boss.
- - Try to crush at least 20 crabs (required for one of the pirate quests).
- Check the crab in B8 before finishing the quest.
- × [Rusty Anchor AF, Moon's Mirror AF] / Metal
- Quest: The Gorgon Eye \\\ Lake Kilma ||
- Boss: Gorgon's Eye
- - Talk to Tote in A7 (bring Bud along), then go fight the boss.
- × [Firefly Lamp AF, Medallion AF] / Metal
- Quest: Drowned Dreams \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - The shop may be selling equipment made of Wendel / Astoria Silver.
- If you haven't gotten any of the weapon drops, it should offer quite
- an improvement (Wendel Spear: 33 ATP).
- - Talk to the other Moti at the lobby to initiate the quest.
- - Go talk to Thoma at the west end, then the guy in front of the hotel.
- - Go talk to Boyd at the harbor and choose any of the three dialog
- choices three times (it can even be the same). When he asks about
- someone with blue eyes, choose 'The soldier.'
- - Go to the restaurant, then the hotel entrance. After that, there's
- one last scene at the lounge.
- × Pirate's Hook AF (SS Buccaneer), [Bottled Spirit AF]
- Lost & Found: Stargazer (Sahagin Lv16+) \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - The Stargazer is a Vinek Rock Spear with an ATP of 42. You'll find two
- Sahagins near the bottom of the ship.
- × NTSC-J: With an Ogre Box, you can score a Daimajin no Fork (Lv32+).
- - To get off the ship, talk to Cap'n Tusk and reply 'no.'
- \\\ Ulkan Mines ||
- Quests: Mine Your Own Business, Where's Putty?
- Boss: Labanne
- - Talk to Pokiehl in A3 to start the first quest (bring Bud along).
- Otherwise, you can't get past C1 and fight the boss.
- × [Moon's Mirror AF], [Torch of Coral AF] / Metal
- - Visiting B6 will (likely) trigger Where's Putty.
- - Get a DragonBone accessory from the Specters.
- - As already mentioned, I get 8 levels while using a Hammer at some
- point. I do it by fighting the Narcissos here. I usually get the hammer
- as a drop from the Cursed Dolls at the Junkyard.
- \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - Find Putty in a barrel at the bottom of the ship.
- \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - Find Putty at the west end.
- Quest: Watts Drops the Hammer \\\ Ulkan Mines ||
- - Talk to Watts and agree to find his hammer. It's in B6.
- - Note that you can buy gear from Watts too.
- Quest: The Path of the Blacksmith \\\ Home ||
- - Talk to Li'l Cactus as always, then head to the workshop. You are
- now able to forge weapons and armor and do tempering.
- - Tempering allows you to create some ridiculously powerful gear if you
- know what you're doing. This is very much unnecessary unless you're
- interested in the higher difficulty levels. Even then, I wouldn't go
- over the top. I'd settle for a weapon with an ATP of 100 or so.
- - In any case, don't bother trying to figure out tempering on your own.
- Just follow one of the recipes you can find online.
- - Trophy note: The easiest way to accumulate 100 000 Lucre is by tempering
- a Wind Cap (dropped by Spiny Cones) with four Clear Feathers (dropped by
- Stinger Bugs (Luon Highway)). One of those sells for 26k.
- Quest: Professor Bomb's Lab \\\ Junkyard ||
- - Agree to find Professor Bomb's golem.
- Boss: Machine Golem \\\ Lake Kilma ||
- Quest: Golem Go Make'em \\\ Home ||
- - Talk to Li'l Cactus, then hit the workshop to be grilled about how
- to make golems (1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st).
- Quest: A Siren's Song \\\ Lumina ||
- - Go to Crescent Moon Alley, then talk to the soldier at Monique's shop.
- \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - Find Monique at the harbor, then visit the west end.
- Boss: Tropicallo \\\ Madora Beach ||
- - The Boink will now move, allowing you to reach C3.
- - You need to make a run for the cage when Flameshe warps away.
- Quest: Gilbert - Love is Blind \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - Pick up Elle at Madora Beach, then talk to Gilbert at the restaurant.
- If Gilbert isn't there, you've screwed up.
- \\\ Madora Beach ||
- - Go to the birdcage and have Elle join you again.
- Boss: Orc \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - Talk to Gilbert / Elle, then go see Cap'n Tusk. Return to Gilbert and
- Elle to fight the boss.
- Quest: Gilbert - School Amour \\\ Geo ||
- - Make sure you do Love is Blind before this one.
- - Part 3 in Gilbert's quest for love. You need to get the kids back to
- school by choosing the right dialog options. One of the students at the
- weapon shop won't agree to go back until you've convinced everyone else
- (technically, the requirement is everyone else minus one).
- Quest: Li'l Cactus \\\ Home ||
- - After talking to Li'l Cactus, you should find that Bud has fallen ill
- (you indeed have to choose 'Talk to him' to trigger it). No need to talk
- to Bud.
- \\\ Domina ||
- - Have your fortune told to learn how to help Bud.
- \\\ Home ||
- - You'll find Li'l Cactus missing. Check the note in his pot.
- - Talk to Gaeus \\\ Luon Highway ||
- - Talk to Selkie \\\ Jungle ||
- - Talk to the student in front of the school \\\ Geo ||
- - Talk to David (B5) \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - Talk to the Pelican \\\ Domina ||
- × If Diddle's Letter is in progress, the Pelican may not be there.
- - Find Li'l Cactus in your mailbox \\\ Home ||
- Quest: Rachel \\\ Domina ||
- - The first three flags can be triggered in any order and you may already
- have triggered some of them at an earlier stage in the game. You can't
- trigger 1 and 4 on the same day.
- - Mark and Jennifer take turns every other day running the shop. Don't
- forget that a day passes whenever you exit to the world map.
- 1. Talk to Mark in Rachel's room.
- 2. Talk to Teapo.
- 3. Talk to Jennifer at the Marketplace.
- 4. Talk to Mark in Rachel's room. He should be there alone and talking
- to him should give you the quest splash screen.
- 5. Talk to Teapo.
- \\\ Geo ||
- - Go to the school library on Salamander Day.
- \\\ Domina ||
- - Talk to Mark in Rachel's room (when he's there). Talk to Jennifer
- at the Marketplace, then go to Rachel's room and the quest will end
- after a fairly long scene.
- Quest: The Fallen Emperor \\\ Underworld ||
- Boss: Hitodama
- - Once you have Olbohn's permission, go receive the Baptism of Flame
- and new paths will become available.
- × Skull Lantern AF (Norn Peaks)
- - Afterwards, feel free to take Bud to see Olbohn (you can't do it
- during the next quest, though).
- \\\ Gato ||
- - If Bud has seen all the other Wisdoms, you should find Selva at the
- crossroads. Return Home to complete The Seven Wisdoms.
- Quest: Diddle Had It! \\\ Lumina ||
- - Go to the tavern and Diddle will (likely) wander off again. If not,
- talk to Capella, leave and come back. Once Diddle leaves, talk to
- Capella. Go Home and exit back to the world map. You should see some
- Shadoles heading for Lumina. Go to the tavern.
- Boss: Ape Mummy \\\ Underworld ||
- - You'll be taken all the way down to E2. Do *not* ask Pokiehl to take
- you out (1st option) or the quest will fail.
- - You need to avoid the Shadoles and make it to D4.
- \\\ Geo ||
- - Talk to the bartender (if you already haven't).
- Quest: The Blessed Elixir \\\ Gato Grottoes ||
- Boss: Niccolo
- - Go to A9 and talk to one of the nuns. Outside, you'll have to fight
- a drunk Niccolo.
- - Talk to the bartender. \\\ Geo ||
- - Talk to the bartender (1st option twice) \\\ Lumina ||
- - Head to the oasis (B1). \\\ Duma Desert ||
- Quest: Gilbert - Resume for Love \\\ Geo ||
- - Go talk to the petrified Gilbert in the storage room in the palace.
- \\\ Ulkan Mines ||
- - Talk to Roger at B6 (read the book), then Gilbert at A7. If Where's
- Putty is in progress, the book won't be there.
- - Talk to Monique \\\ Lumina ||
- - Find Monique at the birdcage \\\ Madora Beach ||
- \\\ Ulkan Mines ||
- - Go see Gilbert.
- - If you choose the 3rd choice on every one, Gilbert will be destroyed.
- You can still get the diary entry even then though.
- --> - earth with life
- - the wind with
- - animals here
- - Memories of the past
- --> - The ancient memories
- - Spider-webbed memories
- - Mother Earth is
- --> - Of Mother Earth fill
- - Mother Earth likes
- --> - The truth that
- - the news and
- - right amount of
- --> - Of energy for all
- - Of power for all
- - Of B-day cake
- \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - You can't enter SS Buccaneer if The Gorgon Eye is in progress.
- - Make sure you've just saved your game before you try the next quest.
- It's pretty much the hardest one in the game.
- - Sail north, north, east.
- Quest: The Treasure Map \\\ Mekiv Caverns ||
- - Head to A3, then check the map at B5. You need to get the pieces of
- the map from the 8 Dudbears. When you move to an area with some of the
- Dudbears, you have a certain amount of time to get a piece before Roger
- appears and the quest is failed (won't happen in B5). The timer resets
- when you obtain a piece or if you leave and re-enter the area. The timer
- stops once you have all the pieces from that area. The length of the
- timer depends on how many bears there are left:
- 6-8 | 30
- 5 | 25
- 4 | 20
- 3 | 16
- 2 | 12
- 1 | 8
- - You'll find the bears at:
- × B5 (1), A5 (2), A6 (2), A8 (3).
- - Start with A8. Go in from A1 and leave the one closest to you when
- you come in. After doing A5 and A6, circle around again to enter A8 from
- A1. When you go in, give it a few tries, then leave in order to reset
- the timer.
- - You tend to get the best results when you hit Confirm when they're
- moving, but you're not.
- Quest: The Quiet Sea \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- Boss: Gova
- - If the SS Buccaneer has a higher metal rank than the Tower of Leires,
- you should complete The Looking-Glass Tower first, so you can get metal
- from this one.
- - Sail south, east, east.
- - Go to A1, leave, then go back and talk to the penguin.
- - Talk to Cap'n Tusk, then get the bottle from the penguin hiding in the
- barrel at B5. Head up to the main deck to fight the boss.
- × [Medallion AF], Frozen Heart AF (Fieg Snowfields) / Metal
- \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - Sail west, west, north.
- Quest: Buried Treasure \\\ Madora Beach ||
- - You'll be given 15 Halo Coins for this quest. You need to use them to
- bribe the Dudbears and trade for other items you can use for bribing.
- These aren't actual items and won't show up in your inventory.
- - If you leave or run out of coins, the quest will be canceled, but *not*
- failed.
- - A1: 5 Dudbears are blocking your path. Give a coin to the one in the middle.
- - A8: Some of the Dudbears (such as the one closest to you when you come in)
- will give you Li'l Bottles for coins. Get a bunch of them. Give a bottle to
- the one blocking your path.
- - B3: Two of the Dudbears here (such as the one walking in the beam of light)
- will give you Pucashells for Li'l Bottles. Get two of them, and give one to
- the Dudbear blocking your path.
- - B7: Give a shell to the one blocking your path.
- - B8: Give anything. If you give nothing, the quest will fail, but you'll
- still get the same reward (metal) and be able to get the diary entry.
- × If you happen to get VizelGold, use it to create a new hauberk (a very
- minor improvement over the WendelHauberk, but it's something).
- Quest: Can't Look Back \\\ Fieg Snowfields ||
- Boss: Du'Mere
- - Talk to Mephianse in A1, then in A8. Fight the boss. (metal)
- - You'll likely get either Ishe Platinum or Lorimar Iron. As always,
- use it for a new weapon or armor (Ishe Spear: 45 ATP (UC) / 56 ATP (J).
- Lorimar Spear: 50 ATP (UC) / 67 ATP (J)).
- - NTSC-J: You can get a Blaze Piercer (56 ATP) from the Sahagins (no
- Ogre Box needed).
- \\\ SS Buccaneer ||
- - Sail west, west, south, south, east (or south, south, west).
- Quest: The Nordic Field \\\ Fieg Snowfields ||
- - If you leave, the quest will be canceled, but not failed.
- - Talking to the faeries will increase or decrease your "spell level."
- You need to get it to Level 7.
- A6: Level 2
- B3: Level 3
- B7: Level 5
- B3: Level 6
- B1: Level 7
- - Once you hit Level 7, you need to talk to Ehrlang in A4. Talking to
- anyone else will decrease your spell level. Ehrlang is the one closest
- to you when you move to the area from A5. (Draupnir)
- Quest: Niccolo's Business Unusual - Part 3 \\\ Lumina ||
- - Find Niccolo at the gem shop.
- - If you ditch Niccolo by going Home, the quest will fail.
- \\\ Mindas Ruins ||
- - Talk to the Flowerling at C1. You now need to get out of the ruins.
- However, this will take a little effort, as the gate keys will be one
- Flowerling short. The missing one will be regarded as being on the right.
- You just need to get to A9.
- Quest: Niccolo's Business Unusual - Part 4 \\\ Geo ||
- - Find Niccolo at the parlor.
- - If you ditch Niccolo by going Home, the quest will fail.
- \\\ Ulkan Mines ||
- - Go see Watts. You'll need some Gator Skin to complete the quest.
- Quest: Niccolo Calls It Quits? \\\ Geo ||
- - Go to the Palace of Arts.
- - Find Niccolo at the west end. \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - Go to the Palace of Arts. \\\ Geo ||
- - Go to the bird's nest. \\\ Gato Grottoes ||
- - Go to the Palace of Arts. \\\ Geo ||
- - Go to the bird's nest. \\\ Gato Grottoes ||
- - Find Niccolo at the west end. \\\ Polpota Harbor ||
- - From now on, you can freely pick up Niccolo at the fruit parlor in Geo.
- Quest: The Guardian of Winds \\\ Norn Peaks ||
- Boss: Akravator
- - Pick up Larc, so you can start this quest.
- - If you touch the statue in B6 before taking out the 3 Windcallers,
- you'll be taken back to A3.
- × Dragonbone AF (Bone Fortress)
- Quest: The Field Trip \\\ Bone Fortress ||
- - Talk to the student by the green hut. You need to get 3 reagents from
- the NPCs in the next area. The right ones are:
- × Faerie scales (student in blue)
- × Spotted silver mushrooms (light purple female Flowerling)
- × Star sparkles (red male Flowerling) (can't get it at first)
- - NTSC-J:
- × Yousei no rinpun (student in blue)
- × Madara gin'iro kinoko (light purple female Flowerling)
- × Hoshi no otawari (red male Flowerling)
- Quest: The Ghost of Nemesis \\\ Bone Fortress ||
- Bosses: Skeletal Soldier, Sierra, Deathbringer, Jajara, Jajara 2,
- Deathbringer 2
- - You can buy Round, Oblong, and Crooked Seeds from the student.
- - You'll need a pet here (in addition to Larc).
- - After the scene by the elevator, you'll be separated and find yourself
- in A5.
- - Check the skulls to open new paths in the basement.
- - Sierra drops the key needed to reach Larc. Once he's back, you can
- go fight the remaining bosses.
- × Green Cane AF (White Forest)
- - If you return to where you fought Deathbringer, you'll fight Deathbringer 2.
- You can only do this *before* completing the Dragon storyline. Go fight him
- right away if you want his (second) encyclopedia entry.
- - The White Forest is a good source of Altena Alloy. To get it, a land
- needs to have a Land Level of at least 31 (eg. 23 + 8).
- × In NTSC-J, you should go for Level 28-30. 31+ would give you Maia Lead,
- which isn't very useful.
- Quest: Catchin' Lilipeas \\\ White Forest ||
- Boss: Hegs Ant
- - If you enter White Forest with Larc, you'll trigger The Dragon Princess.
- Otherwise, it's Catchin' Lilipeas.
- - Talk to Skippie in A3 and Hamson in B2, then check the barrels in
- A9 and B6. Finally, go to the Lilipea village (A7) and talk to Nouvelle,
- then wait until he's close enough to interpret the elder. (metal)
- Quest: The Dragon Princess \\\ White Forest ||
- Boss: Vadise & Sierra
- - Get to the boss. Fight the boss. (metal)
- × If you use anything that makes Vadise move, she will teleport away.
- Quest: Diddle Kidnapped!? \\\ Domina ||
- - Talk to Roger at the church, then go to the park.
- Boss: Chimera Lord \\\ White Forest ||
- - You need to make it to B7. The Dudbears will force you to take the
- wrong path unless you knock them over.
- Quest: The Crimson Dragon \\\ Underworld ||
- Boss: Larc the Centaur
- - Team up with Sierra and get to the bottom. Afterwards, the Underworld
- will change into the Flames.
- \\\ The Flames ||
- Bosses: Sky Dragon, Land Dragon, Zenoa, Drakonis
- - Once you enter, you won't be able to leave until you're done here.
- - You will no longer have access to this dungeon once you complete the
- events here.
- - The land level for this area is 1,5 * the number of Artifacts placed.
- - This is no doubt the hardest dungeon in the game. There are a number
- of trap floors that will send you down to a floor below, easily leading
- to some looping madness. Defeating the sub-bosses allows you to cross
- certain paths without falling down. Take out all three of them and all
- the trap floors will deactivate.
- - Make your way to the fourth floor and fall down from the northern
- trap floor. You'll then be at an area with a save point on 3F. From
- there, you can reach each one of the sub-bosses. There are four paths,
- 1-4, from left to right. 1 takes you to the Sky Dragon, 2 takes you to
- Zenoa, and 4 takes you to the Land Dragon.
- × If you take out Zenoa before the Land Dragon, you can't reach the
- Land Dragon from the path mentioned above anymore. At that point,
- you'll have to take out the Sky Dragon and then use a path on 2F
- (past the chest with a Creepy Eye) to reach the LD.
- - Try to score a Captain's Helm (5\14\8\2) from the Mad Mallards (if
- they're at least Lv32).
- - If you have a Polter Box with you, you could also try scoring a Dragon
- Mail (18\20\10\5) from the Land Dragons.
- - The Land Dragon's fire breath has quite a bit of range, so watch out
- for that. You *can* interrupt it if you're quick enough.
- Quest: The Cage of Dreams \\\ Home ||
- - Visit Home, then exit and re-enter and a scene should take place (if
- not, you need to place more Artifacts). Go inside your house then go to
- the workshops. Leave, re-enter, talk to Nunuzac, then go through the
- short dungeon.
- × Sword of Mana AF (Tree of Mana)
- - Place the Mana Tree next to Domina and Duma Desert to gain access to
- the next three quests (if you left an empty space, like I said).
- Quest: Seeing Double \\\ Domina ||
- Boss: Shadow Zero-One
- - This quest is only available if Domina's Shade is Lv3. An event
- should take place at the center.
- - Enter the marketplace from the north, then go see Teapo, then go to
- the west end.
- Quest: Pee-Wee Birdie \\\ Domina ||
- - Go to the inn and talk to Yuka once you have the stuff.
- - Menos Bronze, Baobab Wood, Animal Hide, Topple Cotton, Flat Seed,
- Citrisquid, Rotten Meat, Sulpher [sic].
- × If you've used up all your Flat Seeds, feed Trent Round + Small
- Seeds and he has a decent chance of giving you a Flat Seed after
- harvesting the produce.
- - Talk to Pee-Wee afterwards to get a Revive Ring.
- Quest: The Wimpy Thugling \\\ Duma Desert ||
- Boss: Kima
- - This one is only available if the area's Dryad level is Lv3.
- - You'll need to ditch your pet for this one.
- - You'll team up with Tikkle the Sahagin at A2. Follow the tremors to
- the new areas.
- Quest: The Looking-Glass Tower \\\ Tower of Leires ||
- Bosses: Iron Centaur, Jewel Beast
- - Get to the top, then leave.
- × You need to take the southern path on the 5th floor, then use the
- elevator on the 8th floor.
- - The Iron Centaur can be rather tricky. If you're having trouble, you
- should attack him from behind.
- × [Frozen Heart AF, Pirate's Hook AF] / Metal
- \\\ Domina ||
