So how would the family react to the likely death of Stolas? I’m honestly excited because if he does die Owlanon has a slew of arcs to go through as does Octavia. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that I’m excited about one of my favorite characters dying.

Octavia would probably turn into herself more and more, shutting out the outside world completely

And Owlnon's having a total mental breakdown; the screaming, crying, sobbing kind. Poor boy's been due for one

Yeah, the thing he has been trying to maintain - family - just broken in the worst way possible. It would just destroy him.

This actually has been something I've thought for Owlnon for a long time, like first when I drew and read about him. I'm not a good writer and thus will fail to sell this idea to anyone but here I go.

I've always thought that he could never fully maintain or restore this already dysfunctional family. It will at one point break and I think that would be his breaking point as well. He would leave. Go away somewhere despite being the heir.

Because the loss of his father felt like the loss of his whole family. "There can be no family without a missing member," is how it felt. He is a demon, he ain't prepared for the actual death of his demon-kind. Adding to this feeling of losing of family, Octavia shut herself in even more, and mum, surprisingly, is really sad too, she's drinking heavily again (possibly regret for her action?). Owlnon can't talk to her.

The loss of his father felt like the loss of his WHOLE family. He himself felt lost. He was nothing without his family.
He needs to find himself. Independently from them. In a way, it's his TRUE coming of age.
So...
He leaves.
For a few decades explores Hell, sees old relatives, gets into trouble. Becomes a man and such.
Prompting like an adventure arc for his life. I imagine something quite ATLA-esque playing out. I feel like this is a good evolution for his story and character vise. He can't stay his whole life attached to the family. This also lets him grow as his own person and forget about his family problems (he will not completely got over father's death)

Owlnon does say his last goodbyes before he leaves
He feels sad for Octavia but (at least how I imagine) he would project his reasoning, justifying leaving her alone for her to also find herself like him, even though that's not good for her. She's different from Owlnon. She right now needs to feel family around and not alone to not sink in even deeper (she does)
Owlnon shouldn't have left his sister like this, he should have been empathetic and understood how it would affect others but he is young and emotionally unstable. He couldn't at that moment think for others, as he also is going through something immensely hard. He makes these mistakes and the consequences will come later.

For the next years with no Stolas or Owlnon, the two most caring and active family members, Octavia would sink into the worst depression imaginable being left alone. Her usual cope mechanisms are not helping her at all.
This way I want to prompt Stella to grow as a character. For her to get out of her drinking stupor and to become a mother and adult to help her daughter. She gets over herself and this idea of image. Now that she has lost it all completely she sees the triviality of it when it comes to family.

I can't really go into more because I have things to do but even Octavia and Stella would all have major collective arcs. After depression drama with Stella, her first step would be to pursue magic more than ever as doing magic reminds her of the good moments with her father. However, secretly to also try to and talk her father again, as Stella can't replace him with her clumsy, overbearing way of trying to be a good parent. She means well but she of course can't replace dad. Octavia can't really fully appreciate Stella trying her best, though she later does (she can't make that mistake with both parents!)

Owlnon returning would be a whole new season. I can't get into that right now.
For those who read (which I doubt there is anyone), thoughts?

I like this idea, Owlnon going the hopeful-soul searching route while inadvertently screwing his family up more sounds like a unique approach.

The approach I felt would be more of a tragic approach, with Stolas's death breaking the prince's psyche more, added with Stella's drinking problem and Octavia shutting away everyone else like you mentioned. I'm not entirely sure what Owlnon losing it would be like. But maybe he'd sink into his new prince-role and go nuts, using his position to terrorize hellborn and sinners alike and going Arthur Fleck probably, all the while his two remaking blood relatives try to get the owl to come to his senses.

Thanks! Partly, why I like Owlnon leaving is because lets us explore other parts of Hell with a bit of a fish-out-water kind of aspect but still with a unique and knowledgeable character. And it also lets him interact with other characters under different circumstances, like he could team up with other characters we've created and such (that's why I mentioned ATLA)

However, your alternative take would also be cool! I have a hard time letting Owlnon become evil but would be interesting if someone did a take. Just unfortunately it creates another dictator universe OR MAYBE it's apart of that same Charlie Dictator fic!?!
I haven't fully read it but would Owlnon then be his own force or become one of Charlie's generals?
