  1. Kynnit was just some lowborn village IceWing sent to the Great Ice Cliff and was originally a guard's servant at the time, serving a more unruly and grouchy noble guard who was pissed they was getting kicked down South after a poor Circle placement.
  2. And kind of took it out on Kynnit because, hey, free punching bag/servant.
  3. When you're noble, you're used to treating the lowborn like dirt.
  4.
  5. And when Icefyre came in... no one really liked him.
  6. Kynnit mostly wondered why an IceWing was black. xD
  7. Then, when they told Kynnit about what Icefyre was, Kynnit pondered hating him... by saw that Icefyre was lonely and kept to himself, most of the time.
  8. And maybe just wanted someone.
  9. And, one day, brought him food.
  10. Outwardly, Icefyre simply thanked Kynnit. Inwardly, I think Icefyre was surprisingly touched, but took the wrong lesson from it: he thought it was because Kynnit noticed his HARD WORK at the training sessions.
  11.
  12. And, soon, they got into a sort of groove of things.
  13. With Icefyre unintentionally taking Kynnit for granted.
  14. And started asking Kynnit for things because they knew more of the Great Ice Cliff than he did.
  15. Then Icefyre noticed the mistreatment Kynnit was going through with his current "master."
  16. And, well, he can't really beat the crap out of that master, considering he's the lowest of the society pole.
  17. And while he disagrees with the degree of it, Icefyre still filters Kynnit and their master through internalized IceWing dynamics.
  18. So he's of the opinion that Kynnit should be serving someone, but his issues with the relationship come more from Kynnit's master doing jack-nothing to actually nurture Kynnit and train him up.
  19. Rather than see it as a fundamental screwed-up relationship to begin with.
  20. So Icefyre asks Kynnit, one day, if they want to take up more training with him in the meantime.
  21. Kynnit agrees and Icefyre teaches them how to have courteous manners, teaches them a smattering of sums and history, teaches them how to sew and tend to equipment, teaches them some plantlore and the Frozen Tongue, whereas Kynnit tells Icefyre about astrology and some classical IceWing stories and even some village legends from where they live.
  22. And, man, is Icefyre low-key furious at how neglected Kynnit's education was.
  23. Because once Kynnit gets going after some stumbling blocks, they're a good student, a bit of potential in them.
  24. And no one bothered to turn Kynnit towards the right path of education.
  25. Eventually, Icefyre replaces Kynnit's prior master.
  26. And teaches, yes.
  27. As much as he can, because he was still 4-5 by the time he went over to the Great Ice Cliff.
