  202. {w}She likes Konnie, gets decent pay, and she pretty much does her own thing."

  209. {w}{i}12:23{/i}.
  210. {w}Not too late (by her standards anyways)."
  211.
  212. "She does a token scan of her surroundings, confident that no one is around to see her scratch the itch that grows with each passing second."
  213.
  214. "From one of her railboard's compartments, Jo pulls out a worn cassette tape titled \"PERFORMANCE MIX\".
  215. {w}Her old friend Mariya is poised and ready to go with her hit 2008 single, \"Shiawase no Monosashi\"."
  216.

  218. {w}After switching out tapes, she hits play and assumes her position center-stage."

  222. {w}Breathe in.
  223. {w}Shoulders squared.

  227.

  229.
  230. "An accusatory hand points defiantly towards the portal.
  231. {w}She won't give an inch to these invaders from another world!"
  232.

  234. {w}A decades-old drumbeat pulses to an electrifying melody.
  235. {w}With each imaginary foe that falls, she strikes a pose towards her adoring fans."
  236.
  237. "The multitool in her hands has transformed before her eyes."
  238.
  239. "She recalls a hefty warhammer with each swing, feeling the memory of a satisfying thwack as she pummels another enemy."
  240.
  241. "A different place,
  242. {w}a different time."
  243.

1232. j "I mean, it's not what I expected I'd be doing but it works for me."
  1233.
1234. h "You should look into performing again, Jo!"
  1235.
1236. h "I'm sure you'd have some kind of seniority preference."
  1237.
  1238. j "Maybe, I haven't really thought about it..."

  1256.
1257. h "I think what FCR does is neat!"
  1258.
1259. h "Still need to go check out one of their shows though."

  1267.
  1268. j "They're not that bad."
  1269.
1270. s "What's the point of them anyways?
  1271. {w}They don't even use portals."
  1272.

  1283.
1284. h "Hey, end of the day, that's what being a magical girl is, right?"
  1285.
1286. h "If we can protect the city and entertain it at the same time, that's all that matters."
  1287.
1288. "Before either Jo or Sie can offer their opinioated rebuttals, Mel interrupts them with a call for places."

  2971. {w}Where are they?"
  2972.
2973. "Before Jo can scan her surroundings a burning bolt of energy sears her back, eliciting exclamations of concern from the crowd."
  2974.
2975. "Somewhere in the chaos, the other two Houndinis recombined and snuck behind her."
  2976.
2977. "Stunned by the attack, Jo quickly regains her stance and brings her warhammer up to defend."
  2978.
  2979. j "Anti-Magic Coat!"
  2980.
2981. "The iridescent sheen covers the warhammer once more."
  2982.
2983. "Just in time, as the Houndini lets off a quick burst of energy that Jo is barely able to deflect."
  2984.
2985. "It's bearing down on her now, unrelenting with its onslaught of energy attacks."
  2986.
2987. "All Jo can do is hold her warhammer out, using the head as a shield to protect herself."
  2988.
2989. "The music has nearly reached its end.
2990. {w}She's got maybe one more verse before the round finishes."
  2991.
  2992. j "Hey Wand."
  2993.
  2994. wv3 "YES, JOANNA."
  2995.
2996. j "Can you fly the warhammer?"
  2997.
  2998. wv3 "YES."
  2999.
3000. j "Good, make a circuit around the stage.
3001. {w}Come back to this spot.
  3002. {w}Set thrusters to max."
  3003.
3004. wv3 "WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING, JOANNA?"
  3005.
  3006. j "Just do it!"
  3007.
3008. "In that moment, Jo steps to the side, avoiding the Houdini's constant stream of attacks, and kicks on the the warhammer's jets."
  3009.
3010. "Her body twists as she swings out her weapon in a wide arc."
  3011.
3012. "However, at the end of her swing Jo lets go of her weapon and sends it flying out."
  3013.
  3014. j "{i}Gotta time this right.{/i}"
  3015.
3016. "Free of her warhammer, Jo quickly dashes out to the Houndini, avoiding all of its energy blasts."
  3017.
3018. "She quickly closes the distance, and when she does she latches onto the Houndini's shifting form."
  3019.
3020. "It's surprisingly easy to gain a grip, especially now that one of the heads has been taken care of."
  3021.
3022. "Once Jo's grabbed onto the Houndini, she reverses direction and dashes back to where she came from."
  3023.
3024. "It takes all of her strength to keep a grip on the monster, but she's able to carry it with her in her dash."
  3025.
3026. "The Houndini snaps and snarls at Jo, trying to sink both sets of its teeth into her."
  3027.
3028. "She does all she can to keep it pinned to this position, all while keeping track of the warhammer's position."
  3029.
3030. "One bite grabs her upper left arm and she cries out in pain, but manages to keep her hold."
  3031.
3032. "The warhammer is approaching quickly now.
3033. {w}It'll hit their path in a matter of seconds."
  3034.
3035. "Jo tries to break away but the Houndini has a firm hold on her arm."
  3036.
3037. "In a moment of panic, Jo resorts to the last thing she can think of:"
  3038.
3039. "Letting out a guttural yell, she smashes her head against the Houndini's."
  3040.
3041. "The monsters lets go of her with a yelp.
3042. {w}As soon as it does, Jo dashes away."
  3043.
3044. "In the next second her warhammer smacks right into the Houndini's midsection, driving the head directly into its gut."
  3045.
3046. "The sheer impact is enough to drive the weapon through the monster's body, splitting it in two before it dissipates into smoke."
  3047.
  3048. j "Thrusters off!!!"
  3049.
3050. "With its jets turned off, Jo's warhammer is left sailing through the air."
  3051.
3052. "The song is nearly over now.
  3053. {w}Just a few seconds left."
  3054.
3055. "Jo races for her weapon, hands outstretched."
  3056.
  3057. j "Almost got it!"
  3058.
3059. "She barely gets a grip on the warhammer's haft and strains to pull it out of its spin."
  3060.
3061. "The weapon pushes against her, bringing Jo along for the ride."
  3062.
3063. "Her body at least slows the warhammer down and the two of them tumble onto the hard concrete of the stage."
  3064.
3065. "As the last few notes of the song play out, Jo stumbles onto her feet and strikes a haggard pose with her weapon."
  3066.
3067. "At the song's end, the crowd breaks out into applause and cheers."
  3068.
3069. "She can't see the judges, but if the audience is anything to go by she might do alright."
