- Shield Setup:
- 1. Download the official iQIYI app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iqiyi.i18n
- 2. Create an iQIYI account on the app, use signup via mail and enter the verification code (maybe try via phone and see if that works with an international number?)
- 3. Boot the Shield and proceed to the iQIYI registration step (use Google Translate app to translate all instructions)
- 4. In the user menu of the iQIYI app press "Scan" and scan the QR code on the Shield to login to your existing iQIYI account bypassing the registration on the Shield itself
- 5. The Shield will ask for a Chinese phone number you need to associate with the iQIYI account and verify with SMS. You can get a free temporary one from here: https://receive-sms-free.net/Free-HongKong-Phone-Number
- 6. You will need to connect to the Shield later on from your PC/Laptop. Ensure the Shield and your PC/Laptop either share the same Wi-Fi connection or you own a Type-A Male to Type-A Male USB cable for a direct connection
- 7. Change the Shield language to English and install all required updates so you can access the iQIYI store
- 8. Enable the developer mode on the Shield. Go to Settings > About Shield, scroll to the bottom and tap the field Build Number several times until the confirmation text "You are now a developer!" appears
- 9. Enter the Shield dev options under Settings > Developer options. Unplug anything you currently have plugged into USB Port 1 (the most left port). Then enable "USB debugging". Acknowledge the screen. If you prefer connection over Wi-Fi also enable "Network debugging" after you enabled USB debugging and note down the IP and port shown
- 10. Install ADB (Android Debug Bridge) on your PC: https://mega.nz/file/55kDmRxa#idclirBQgIrIWnAJFljRwc6XX617aK9FPN_05YH5oys (answer all 3 questions with Yes)
- 11. Ensure the Shield is now connected via Wi-Fi or USB (most left port). If your PC/Laptop is connected via Ethernet the Shield also needs to be connected via Ethernet depending on the router (or both need to be connected via Wi-Fi)
- 12. Open a command prompt (Open Start menu and type cmd) and enter "adb connect <IP address of your Shield>" (if it doesn't work also add the port after the IP, usually ":5555"). Confirm the connection on the Shield. If using USB just type "adb devices" and let the daemon start
- 13. Sideload Chrome, ES File Explorer and Windscribe VPN (bundle here: https://mega.nz/file/J98lgb5Z#mJgdc2OP--V7YRMhvNDYTeBirlYlHn6E6BebrjW4VdE). You can install an app via typing "adb install <path to apk file>"
- 14. Setup Windscribe VPN to Hong Kong to bypass the Great Firewall (the free version suffices)
- 15. Setup an international Alipay (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eg.android.AlipayGphone) or WeChat (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tencent.mm) account. Be aware that WeChat requires another WeChat user to invite you before you can use the app, so Alipay might be a lot easier
- 16. Top your account up with 68 Chinese Yuan/RMB (about $10) or link a credit card. International credit cards are now accepted (since November 2019)!
- 17. Buy TP via Alipay or WeChat Pay on the iQIYI store with VPN on (hit "Scan Pay" in Alipay or "Scan QR Code" in WeChat Pay). You need to scan the merchant QR code shown on the Shield screen within 10 seconds or it won't work/need to create a new one
- 18. Download TP via VPN and enjoy!
