  1. Star vs the Forces of Evil: King for a Day Ch.4
  2.
  3.
  4.
  5.
  6. Marco joined his parents in the kitchen for dinner, as tasty as his mother's cakes are he was happy to still see that she also made Enchilada's. There are things in the world that one does not mess with and one of those things is enchilada night at the Diaz house. Marco gave them a full rundown of the days events, especially how he hopes they build a statue of him in honor for next year; of which he will be the guest of honor.
  7.
  8. "What about those friends of yours, the weird boys and your girlfriend, are they going back with you?" Marco's father asked.
  9.
  10. "Rafael! I told you those boys aren't weird...all the time" Marco's mother chastise his father.
  11.
  12. "Wait my girlfriend? If you mean Janna she is not my anything dad. She just sorta stalks me sometimes, but I can handle it. And if she does come back next year it will probably be to kill me or something, she's probably building some historically inaccurate Orc army as I speak." Marco added with a chuckle.
  13.
  14. "Ferg and Alphonso are my knight's, who knows they might get some not really pretty but kinda funny medieval-loving girlfriends out of it who knows?" Marco added.
  15.
  16. "Yeah...something tells me those boys don't really want any girlfriends when they eventually move in together," Mr. Diaz said and bit into his slice of cake.
  17.
  18. "RAFAEL!" Marco's mother shouted and slapped on the arm.
  19.
  20. "Oh, c'mon Angie it's so obvious just lo-"
  21.
  22. "What does he mean mom?" Marco asked.
  23.
  24. "Nothing sweetie, you're father is just an insensitive idiot, carry on with your story"
  25.
  26. "Well that's it really, came home and gave you guys your souvenirs. I totally messed up and forget to get Star something so I kinda gave her my kings sword" Marco replied with a sigh.
  27.
  28. "I know it's selfish, but I really like that sword."
  29.
  30. "It was a nice gesture son, it's sweet how you put others happiness in front of your own...even if this time you were just trying to save your own butt" Mr. Diaz added.
  31.
  32. "Oh, so is that why she's not here for cake? Is she playing with it? I sure hope she's careful with that thing." Mrs. Diaz wondered.
  33.
  34. "Actually mom, I don't know what she's doing. I gave her the sword or at least I tried but she sorta freaked out and took off running upstairs. All I heard her was slamming her bedroom door closed, I really don't know what to make of it" Marco said as he began to eat some cake of his own.
  35.
  36. Mr. Diaz let out a little laugh. "Oh sorry for laughing son but that's just funny, guess she saw right through your little lie after all."
  37.
  38. "You think that's what it was dad?"
  39.
  40. "Probably, you know how emotional girls can be. You made a mistake but tried to make it right, but as far as she's concerned it's like you ran over her cat....repeatedly."
  41.
  42. Marco sighed, he was really hoping this day could have ended on a high note now he has to deal with angry Star.
  43.
  44. "How long did it take for mom to forgive you after you after she realized you had forgotten her birthday last year dad?"
  45.
  46. Marco's father almost choked on his food and gave Marco an "oh for the love of god, stop talking" look.
  47.
  48. "Wait, you didn't forget my birthday you gave me a day pass at the Echo Creek Spa you said you had them for months...Rafael, what are you not telling me?" Angie Diaz said crossing her arms and giving her husband an angry glance. Marco gulped, guess he had accidentally thrown his dad under the bus as he thought she knew.
  49.
  50. "Ok, ok I didn't have them for months, I got them the same day. My boss hadn't them out to me and a few other guys as a thanks for all the overtime we put in on a project and uh.well, I have stressed out all that month Angie. You can't blame me too much for forgetting the date, but look you got your spa day...so what if i had intended to use the pass on myself it all worked out" Mr. Diaz said nervously and not making eye contact with his wife.
  51.
  52. Mrs. Diaz just rolled her eyes. "Men" she grumbled to herself and returned to her food.
  53.
  54. "oh c'mon baby don't be like that, yeah so what if I wanted to keep it? Sure I didn't push out Marco's unusually large head out of my body 14 years ago-"
  55.
  56. "Wait I had a big head as a newborn?" Marco interrupted while touching his head nervously.
  57.
  58. " But even a dad want's his foot massaged by a Korean lady who doesn't speak any English. Beside's I would have taken you the following week, honest" Marco's father concluded.
  59.
  60. It was now Marco's turn to give his dad a stop talking look. Unfortunately it was too late and his parents were in full argument mode, his parent's hardly ever fought, but Marco wasn't worried. In a blink of an eye they can go from being in an argument to acting like newlyweds, maybe too much actually; few times Marco has to remind them he's in the room so they don't start making out. Marco cut a slice of cake and placed it on a plate for Star, he'd go give it to her right away but if his dad was right and she was mad he might get narwhal blasted out a window...and this time on purpose.
  61.
  62. Marco put his crown back on and headed off to the living room to watch some TV; he figured he'd wait and let Star come to him, then he could apologize for forgetting about her. Worse case scenario she yells at him and hits him with a spell for trying to weasel his way onto her good graces with a gift he had no intention giving away. He turned on the TV and looked up at the ceiling and wondered what Star was doing.
  63.
  64. Upstairs in her bedroom, Star was freaking the hell out. Marco mean's a lot to her and she knows she means a lot to him, but marriage? It was all too much for Star. She paced back and forth in her room unsure of what to do, due to how on Mewni when a king offers his personal sword to a princess or a queen it's essentially a way of saying marry me now or marry later but either way I want us together. Star has spent enough time watching TV shows and movies about medieval days to know that's a thing too on earth, so she couldn't say no on a technicality. However what bothered her the most was did she want to say no? She's comfortable around Marco and trusts him completely; it would not be the first time someone in her family got married out of similar needs, heck many of her aunts back home married the first noblemen that proposed and did not smell like unicorn feces. Her family extended family has really low standards.
  65.
  66. "Princess Butterfly you are disturbing my nap with that nervous pacing of yours" a voice came from under Star's bed. Star stopped in her tracks and turned to see her spell book slide out from under her bed, opening by itself revealing Glossaryk laying down on one of the pages in his pajama's.
  67.
  68. "Sorry for waking you Glossayrk, I know you need at least 16 hours of sleep per day."
  69.
  70. "Something is troubling you isn't it? Tell your pal Gloassaryk all about it...unless it's a long story because I have a nap to get back to." Glossaryk added with a yawn.
  71.
  72. "It's just that Marco proposed to me a little while ago, and I'm not sure if I should accept or not" Star told him.
  73.
  74. "Well princess, I just think it's very brave of you to embrace who you really are. I know your mother and father are going to have a hard time accepting that their daughter is in love with a woman but-"
  75.
  76. "Woah woah back up, for the last time, Marco is a boy...he only screams like a girl," Star said correcting him.
  77.
  78. "Well whatever, all I know is I saw him wear a pink dress once and he totally pulled it off." Glossaryk mused while rubbing his chin.
  79.
  80. "Did you tell him no are are you actually considering this?" he asked.
  81.
  82. "I-I don't know...maybe? The way I see it my mom will probably try to marry me off to some guy on Mewni in exchange for magic beans or something. At least this way I'm with someone I actually like, granted I didn't even know he liked me in that way." Star said as she sat on her bed.
  83.
  84. "You may want to talk to your mother about this" Glossaryk, responded. "I'm starting to think this is above my pay grade."
  85.
  86. "Might be weird at first since he's my best friend especially when we have to consummate the marriage" Star mumbled clearly not listening.
  87.
  88. "Ok gross, stop talking now," Glossaryk said using his beard as ear plugs.
  89.
  90. "Wha? Oh sorry, I was just thinking out loud. And I heard what you said about my mom but I'd rather keep her out of this. Whatever I decide it's my choice to make in the end, and my choice alone."
  91.
  92. "Very well, while I'm not really fond of the Marco girl-"
  93.
  94. "Boy, Glossaryk he's a boy. Either remember or I'm telling him to cut off your pudding supply for the next month." Star said sternly.
  95.
  96. "Right, right boy...while not very fond of that boy he seem's to always look out for you. I guess in this day and age that's all a person really needs when looking for friends; it's a rare trait to have."
  97.
  98. Glossaryk climbed back into the spell book. "Let me know what you decide, I can bring my family to the wedding reception right? I promise my brother in law won't devour anyone's souls this time."
  99.
  100. Star managed to chuckle. "Goodnight glossaryk" she told him as the book closed and slid back under her bed.
  101.
  102. Star stared at the wall quite a while. Her mind raced with so many thought's she had trouble keeping up with herself; in the end, however, she finally made up her mind. She opened the door and headed downstairs to find King Marco.
  103.
  104. Downstairs Marco was had gone from watching TV to playing that video game he had been obsessively playing for the last few days. Star approached him and grabbed the sword, it was still where Marco left it laying against the stairs.
  105.
  106. "Evening your majesty" Star announced herself.
  107.
  108. Marco paused the game and looked at her with a big smile. "Oh hey, there you are look Star before you say anything I just want to say I'm sorry for-"
  109.
  110. "It's ok Marco, err I mean King Marco, I know your intention was to surprise me and it worked...I was surprised." Star said as she sat down next to Marco.
  111.
  112. "Really? So you aren't mad then?" Marco asked.
  113.
  114. Star placed the sword on his lap. "No I am not, and I feel like you should have this back, no matter what happens next."
  115.
  116. Marco just shrugged and picked it up, he wasn't sure what's going on but hell yeah he got his sword back, this thing has to do at least +70 damage if it was in a video game.
  117.
  118. "Your highness, I just want to say these last few months that I have none you have been some of the best days of my life. And I hope that doesn't change even when you drop out of school to rule your kingdom." Star said staring at Marco.
  119.
  120. Marco just raised his eyebrow. Quit school? Kingdom? What in the world was she talking about, Marco thought to himself.
  121.
  122. Star wanted to say something but she looked nervous. "Listen, King Marco of Echo Creek, I have thought long and hard about your offer even though I am scared of both answers I have come to the conclusion that I Princess Butterfly of Mewni will-"
  123.
  124. "Ok Star you can drop the royal talk, I'm kinda starting to get bored by it. I did it all day at the fair and I don't want to go around pretending to be the king of England all week." Marco said cutting her off.
  125.
  126. "Oh ok, I just thought you wanted to talk like how my parents do since you are royalty now. Well anyways I wanted to say that I-"
  127.
  128. Marco just laughed. 'Wait hold on...Star I'm not really royalty, you DO know that right?"
  129.
  130. "Come again?" Star said looking both shocked and happy.
  131.
  132. "I'm not really a King, just a pretend one whenever the fair rolls around. Sword's real though, which is cool."
  133.
  134. Star looked at him with her jaw on the floor. "Oh oh right, of course, you aren't I knew that silly...silly Marco of course." She finally managed to say.
  135.
  136. "What were you gonna say about my offer? I don't remember making you an offer."
  137.
  138. "Oh...uh It's about that thing from...last week, you know what nevermind it's not important anyways. I was just playing with you because I got mad that you forget to bring me a souvenier, that's all but I'm over it now. Take your sword back you've earned it, I know that it was an honest mistake; and besides what sort of friend would I be if I cared more about material things then your happiness?" Star said patting Marco's shoulder.
  139.
  140. "Not a very good one I guess. I'm still sorry I didn't bring you anything, next time I promise I won't forget." Marco said as he reached for something next to him.
  141.
  142. "Here, have some of the cake mom made me, I saved you the biggest slice," Marco said as he handed Star the plate.
  143.
  144. Star looked at the slice of cake and fought back a tear. "Thank you Marco, always thinking of others huh? People would be lucky to have you as their real king" Star said as she took a bite.
  145.
  146. "You think so?" Marco asked.
  147.
  148. "I know so. And I promise I'd be at your side always helping you anyway I can."
  149.
  150. Marco smiled. "Maybe if you are still with us, you can come to the fair with me next year, I kinda sorta do need a Queen. Both to complete the illusion and in case Janna starts a peasant uprising, I need someone in my corner who knows how to kick butt....hopefully you don't think that's a weird thing to ask for."
  151.
  152. "Not at all Marco...it...it..would be my pleasure to be your Queen and rule with an iron fist alongside you," Star said with a smile.
  153.
  154. "Cool, but maybe tone it down on the iron fist thing?, I see us the kicking it back with Netflix sort of monarchy," Marco said returning to his game as both kids had a good laugh.
  155.
  156. "Oooh, you mean like the Netflix and chill the other kids talk about?" Star asked.
  157.
  158. "Uhhh maybe without the chill, but yes," Marco said focusing his attention to the TV.
  159.
  160. "Oh this game, I thought you beat it already. I mean I saw you play it for 36 hours straight once without blinking" Star said between bites of her cake.
  161.
  162. "Pfft, that's nothing this is Fallout 4, I've barely scratched the surface" Marco replied. "I love it and all just wish it was more realistic."
  163.
  164. "Hmm...I might be able to help you with that" Star said as she chewed the last of her cake and gave out a loud yawn.
  165.
  166. "Really? How, though?"
  167.
  168. Star laid her head on Marco's shoulders and dozed off.
  169.
  170. "Star? Star hello miss sleepyhead?" Marco called out to her, but all he got were snores in reply.
  171.
  172. Marco shrugged and smiled as he put his feet up on the coffee table. His best friend on his right, his bad ass sword to his left, a stomach full of cake and the Boston Commonwealth just beckoning him to explore it some more.
  173.
  174.
  175. It feels good to be king.
