  1. You never liked air travel...
  2. But this is just torture
  3. Being stuck in a tin can for 6 hours is bad enough
  4. But why with her?
  5.
  6. "Anon, give me the window seat!"
  7. You appreciate the small luxuries you can get...
  8. No way will you give it up to Natsuki, of all people
  9. "ANON!!!"
  10. This is going to be a long flight
  11. And passengers are still boarding...
  12.
  13. She is only like this to you
  14. She's not this nasty to anyone else, even to those she barely knows
  15. You never did anything wrong to her... you think...
  16. One time you did offer her half of your lunch when she forgot hers
  17. And you did offer her a helping hand when she misplaced a box of manga
  18. But she didn't seem to take too kindly to those gestures
  19. Perhaps you offended her somehow...
  20. Whatever, this relationship is already beyond saving
  21.
  22. "GIVE.. ME.. THE.. SEAT.. NOW!"
  23. You easily rebuff her feeble attempts of theft
  24. Is the window seat really that important to her?
  25. Everyone on the flight is now staring at the two of you
  26. All you want is some peace and quiet in your rightful seat
  27. It isn't too much to ask for...
  28. But for now you just have to deal with her bickering
  29.
  30. Like an answer to a prayer, a flight attendant starts walking over
  31. One sharp look from her and Natsuki realizes the battle is over
  32. She dejectedly pouts in her aisle seat, where she belongs
  33. A tense nonaggression pact
  34. Why did she choose this seat if she hates you so much?
  35. This flight doesn't have assigned seating...
  36.
  37. The first two hours were thankfully uneventful
  38. The pact is holding... for now...
  39. She was engrossed in her manga while you were on your laptop
  40. You appreciate the peace, but will it last?
  41. And you are building up an appetite...
  42.
  43. The snack cart starts rolling down the aisle
  44. It doesn't seem to have much, but it will suffice...
  45. Eventually, the cart stops at your seat
  46. You are about to make your request, but...
  47. "No thanks, we're both good!"
  48. ...
  49. You couldn't even react
  50. It looks like she just breached the pact
  51. But why would she do this? She has nothing to gain...
  52. The cart is now gone and you are still hungry...
  53. Maybe she really does hate you
  54.
  55. The cart has reached its final destination
  56. A loud grumbling sound emerges from her stomach
  57. This is her Pyrrhic victory
  58. Retribution for her embarrassment only hours prior
  59.
  60. Natsuki suddenly reaches underneath the seat
  61. You can already sense it
  62. The battle is not yet over
  63. And the tables are turning
  64. She pulls out her secret weapon
  65. An ordinary white box
  66. With that familiar pleasant aroma
  67.
  68. It's inevitable, Natsuki will achieve true victory
  69. But it doesn't bother you
  70. No matter how much pain and suffering she has caused you
  71. You can never feel joy from her hunger
  72. No belly deserves to remain empty
  73.
  74. A tap on your shoulder, clearly to rub it in
  75. For some reason, you still turn to her
  76. No smirk on her face?
  77. Instead, a slight pout..
  78. With a slight blush...
  79. And a sparkle of hope in her eyes?
  80. What is this facade?
  81.
  82. Finally, she unleashes her secret weapon
  83. And opens up the modest box
  84. An overpowering aroma
  85. Emanating from the lethal warheads
  86. Two beautifully decorated cupcakes
  87. Made with love from a dedicated baker
  88. If the cupcakes could love
  89. They would be the perfect match
  90.
  91. "What are you staring at!?"
  92. Her sharp voice breaks your trance
  93. There's no point in responding, she already knows
  94. The battle is over and she won
  95. All you can do now is try to get some work done
  96. And ignore your now-severe hunger pains
  97. No thanks to that alluring pair of sweets...
  98.
  99. No progress on work...
  100. You really should focus
  101. But the hunger pains are too great
  102. And your peripheral vision can't resist spying...
  103. Natsuki still hasn't indulged in her victory
  104. She's just been staring at the twin confectioneries
  105. For the last half-hour...
  106. She looks... nervous?
  107. And is she still blushing?
  108. She already won, she should just drop this facade!
  109.
  110. Maybe some sleep is in order...
  111. Sleeping on the plane has never been easy for you
  112. But thankfully the recline isn't bad this time
  113. You safely stow away your laptop and close your eyes
  114. All you need to do now is relax
  115. ...
  116. A slight ominous sensation...
  117. Is someone watching you?
  118. The brain sure enjoys playing tricks
  119. A clear sign you need nutrition
  120. Hopefully when you wake up, passengers will be exiting
  121. That will be your opportunity to replenish your stomach
  122. ...
  123.
  124. *thud*
  125. You jolt up, barely noticing her small swift hand
  126. It's gone before you can react
  127. All that remains is an object on your seat tray
  128. ...A cupcake?
  129. "I made it for y... err--- as an extra!"
  130. Still feeling a bit groggy, you turn to see her tomato-red face
  131. With that familiar pout
  132. Instinctively, you thank her
  133. Somehow her face turns even redder
  134.
  135. You are inspecting the object she left you
  136. Calling it a treat wouldn't do it justice
  137. It's clear she has put her heart into this
  138. The cat face decoration may look simple
  139. But the subtle detailing makes its expression clear
  140. Its eyes are full of hope
  141. But still, why would she give her backup cupcake to you?
  142. The one she hates?...
  143. "W...well? What are you waiting for? Aren't you hungry?"
  144.
  145. Somehow you managed to forget those hunger pains
  146. But without mercy, they hit you back like a roaring tidal wave
  147. And this cupcake looks like the only life-jacket
  148. Is this all part of a cunning plan?
  149. A cleverly disguised booby-trap?...
  150. You try to analyze the object
  151. An alluring cupcake
  152. Laced with what, a laxative?
  153. Something worse?
  154.
  155. "W..What's wrong? I didn't poison it or anything!"
  156. She must be a mind-reader...
  157. "Please! at least taste it..."
  158. Her voice, now slightly cracking...
  159. You sense no malice
  160. It sounds more desperate... anxious...
  161. And slightly hopeless...
  162. This is not the voice of an insidious enemy
  163. You turn to see for yourself
  164. That once tomato face is now bleak
  165. With a couple tears forming in her usually bright eyes
  166.
  167. Perhaps your stomach is clouding your judgment
  168. But you have made your choice
  169. You accept the life-jacket that Natsuki has thrown you
  170. And bite in to the hand-made dessert...
  171. First, the frosting... subtle yet flavorsome
  172. Then, a rich oozing filling
  173. A heavenly mixture of vanilla and chocolate
  174. A perfect complement to the savory cake base
  175. Before you know it, it's already gone
  176. "So.. y-you actually like it?"
  177. Her eyes immediately fill up with optimism
  178. Just like those of the decorative cat you consumed
  179. Your reaction speaks louder than words
  180. "Well of course you would! I am an excellent baker after all!"
  181. That jagged voice returns
  182.
  183. "I can't believe I wasted such a good cupcake on an idiot like you!"
  184. And of course, that signature haughty smile
  185. Well that certainly didn't last very long...
  186. For a second you actually thought she didn't despise you
  187. At least your hunger pains have subsided
  188. For a small cupcake, it sure was filling
  189. How she managed that, you have no idea
  190. At least you can focus on work now
  191.
  192. The plane beeps
  193. The seatbelt signs flare up
  194. Not an uncommon occurrence for the frequent flier
  195. Also a convenient excuse to not work
  196. As a precaution, you put up your seat tray
  197. Air turbulence has always been one cost of taming the skies
  198. But for the uninitiated, it can feel like impending doom
  199. The airship shakes
  200. "EEP!"
  201. Natsuki peeks at you with timid eyes
  202. "Anon... What was that?..."
  203.
  204. Roaring thunder
  205. The plane violently jolts
  206. This time, the skies don't hold back
  207. "AAHHH!"
  208. "ANON HELP! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"
  209. The color on her face, draining
  210. Her hands, gripping the arm rests for dear life
  211. Her eyes, now quivering with fear
  212. She may be your sworn enemy
  213. But you don't waste another second
  214. You raise the dividing arm rest
  215. And grab her tiny, shaking hand
  216.
  217. She grabs back
  218. "Anon...?"
  219. Her eyes light up with an ounce of hope
  220. A slight curious smile on her lips
  221. But something catches your eye...
  222. A dangling strap
  223. It's her seatbelt... Unbuckled
  224. You reach over to strap Natsuki back in...
  225. Your body is suddenly struck
  226.
  227. ...
  228. What happened?
  229. Is the turbulence really that bad?
  230. It feels like you were tackled by a linebacker
  231. You mentally regroup and assess the situation
  232. Somebody did indeed tackle you
  233. But it certainly wasn't a linebacker
  234. You look to see the frightened pink blob in your arms
  235. Holding on desperately for dear life
  236. Her face, smothered in your chest
  237. Instinctively, you wrap your arms around her
  238. Protecting her from the harshness of mother nature
  239. You both say nothing and remain in this protective embrace
  240. Until the chaotic storms tire out
  241.
  242. It's been some time since the fierce skies have simmered down
  243. Yet your pink enemy remains in your arms
  244. Those lively eyes, fully concealed
  245. Her heartbeat, gentle and soft
  246. Her breathing, fully relaxed
  247. A peaceful slumber
  248. Another beep from the intercom
  249. Those ominous overhead lights return
  250. The plane pitches downwards
  251. Normally you would be happy when this finally happens
  252. But for some odd reason, you feel a bit disappointed
  253. Like you wish you had more time on this plane...
  254. Your brain must be playing strange tricks again
  255.
  256. The landing sequence pulls Natsuki out from her slumber
  257. A soft smile forms on her face
  258. Her tranquil eyes slowly open
  259. She's relaxed and well-rested
  260. Not something you would expect
  261. Especially after what she just went through
  262. "*Yawn*... Morning Anon..."
  263. Her smile turns slightly playful
  264. "I won!... I got my window seat~..."
  265. Despite winning, you sense no arrogance from her
  266. Only genuine happiness
  267. And something else
  268. Like shes yearning for something?
  269.
  270. The airship taxis to its destination
  271. Like clockwork, passengers move up to the front
  272. Clumping up to the door that is inevitably shut
  273. Of course, you would rather wait it out
  274. Natsuki remains comfortably in your arms
  275. She was adamant about keeping her window seat
  276. Even though she never bothered looking out the window...
  277. The passengers start moving
  278. You grab what little luggage you have
  279. And Natsuki's untouched cupcake
  280. She may want this for later
  281.
  282. The plane is almost empty
  283. You two really should get going
  284. But she's not making it easy...
  285. "I'm not leaving my seat Anon!"
  286. That sly smile
  287. That spark in her eyes
  288. You know what she really means
  289.
  290. Only two passengers remain
  291. And the flight attendant is getting impatient
  292. You have no choice
  293. You will be carrying an extra piece of luggage
  294. Finally, you start making your way to the exit
  295. With Natsuki happily in your arms
  296. A Bridal Carry
  297. One thing is clear to you
  298. She has achieved true victory
  299. But only with you by her side
  300.
  301.
  302. ~EPILOGUE~
  303.
  304. You never liked air travel...
  305. But at long last, your trip has come to an end
  306. After 2 weeks away, you just want to go home
  307. Despite exhaustion, you walk quickly along the moving pathway
  308. In your right hand, your laptop bag
  309. In your left hand, nothing
  310. Traveling alone has always felt empty
  311. Especially when you get the window seat...
  312.
  313. The walkway ends at the final intersection
  314. You see that familiar sign
  315. 'Public Transit: LEFT'
  316. 'Passenger Pickup: RIGHT'
  317. It's been six years since you made a left turn here
  318. That thought puts a small smile on your face
  319. You make your turn and keep walking
  320. With your eyes scanning the horizon
  321. And heart filling with anticipation
  322.
  323. ...
  324. "Anon!!"
  325. That adorable voice
  326. You turn to its direction
  327. But you see nothing...
  328. ...
  329. "Over here Anon!"
  330. Your fiancée pops out of a hidden corner
  331. Her bright eyes, shedding tears of joy
  332. "I missed you so much!..."
  333. Your overjoyed pink blob rushes forward
  334. And tackles you to the ground
  335. Despite feeling dizzy, you relish in her loving embrace
  336. She really does pack a punch...
  337.
  338. Satisfied but tired, you both pull yourselves up
  339. And start walking home
  340. Natsuki doesn't waste a second and grabs your left hand
  341. You sure missed feeling that warm squeeze
  342. "There's something special waiting for you back home~"
  343. You can't wait
  344. Her baking has really spoiled you over the years
  345. Even the best hotel food can't compare
  346.
  347. Natsuki suddenly stops
  348. A slight blush forms on her soft cheeks
  349. She twirls around and pulls you in
  350. Her lips gently touch yours
  351. A subtle yet pleasant sensation
  352. Shared with the love of your life
  353. But you taste something else...
  354. Your favorite cupcake frosting
  355.
  356. ~FIN~
